AfD Votes

[edit]

You might want to put a * before you put your vote on an AfD discussion. Just a friendly suggestion. Diez2 01:09, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Oh, thanks for the reminder. That is indeed how I normally format my messages there but it seems that I missed one today. TSO1D 01:20, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

My RFA

[edit]
- Hello TSO1D! I want to thank you for taking time to comment in my recent request for adminship. Though it didn't succeed, I value everyone's opinion, and hope to use the descriptions of the neutral and oppose votes to improve. TeckWizTalkContribs@ 22:59, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

farewell

[edit]

I came here to say farewell and also to thank you. We differed in opinion on most issues but you always displayed a level of civility that I respected. Under the climate that currently prevails it is better to disengage, I'm not annoucing my departure on the Transnistria page for obvious reasons. Stay strong. Ceyockey RfA

[edit]

A generic but nonetheless warm "thank you" for your words of support in my RfA. I'm glad that you affirmed Radiant's nomination and I'll be measured in my use of the cleaning closet's contents. User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 00:20, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

[edit]
TSO1D/archive4, thank you for your support in my RfA which passed on 13th December 2006 with a tally of 49/10/5. I am delighted by the result and a little daunted by the scope of additional responsibilities; I shall be cautious in my use of the new tools. I am well aware that becoming an Admin is not just about a successful nomination, but a continuing process of gaining further experience; for this I shall welcome your feedback. Again, many thanks for supporting my RfA, feel free to contact me if you need any assistance. :-) David Ruben 03:42, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

References

[edit]

Hi, don't be confused with WP:CITE. The current state of Germany article already conforms with WP:CITE, that you use Footnote style of citing together with inline citations. So when you simply added the long list of books/publications in a newly created References section and you said that they were copy-pasted from other sub-Germany articles and they were not used in the article, then it is not correct. It should be applied also in other article, such as Canada, but it has been featured, so what can I say? There is WP:FAR for reviewing FA article again, but I guess it is not a fatal mistake in Canada. Probabily, your timing was not right. When one reviewer asked about printed sources, you answered him/her by copy-pasting a list of references. That looked like a show-off action and made him/her think that you are not serious of taking his/her comments. — Indon (reply) — 17:15, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank You!

[edit]

Thank you for your input at my RFA, which successfully closed at 58/2/0. I will think about the 10 questions and answers I had, and I hope that I will use the tools constructively and for the benefit of Wikipedia. If you ever need any help, don't be afraid to drop me a line. I'm here to help afterall! ‎8) -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 23:35, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

[edit]

Thank you for participating in my RfA. I decided to end it; more time is needed, and I probably need a bit more experience. From here, I think I'll look at community discussion, AfD and the like. I will try to improve in the areas of concern, and thanks to everyone who supplied feedback. -- Selmo (talk) 06:18, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

I have to dispute the nominators claim of "no outside sources, questionable notability" on this AfD. Number one, there are outside sources listed under references. In particular, he was one of the subjects of RE/Search magazine special edition on Modern Pagans: an Investigation of Contemporary Ritual (Re/Search) by V. Vale & John Sulak. This is a litmus test for notablity in the neopagan community. Most of the other interviewees have articles on Wikipedia. Notability is not an issue, regardless of what other issues there may be. This is not to belittle the problem of his posting the article himself, but if someone else had written it, there would be no question in my mind that it should be kept. Pagans typically avoid usual local newpaper and other media coverage, as it can lead to harassment in primarily Christian neighborhoods, especially if they have children in school. But RE/Search doesn't write articles on people they don't think are notable in some way. Ekajati (yakity-yak) 17:21, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Truli

[edit]

Is the new guy, Truli, actually Mark Street? He/she seems to have appeared at the same time Mark says he's leaving and their writing style is very similar to when Mark goes off on a bit of a rant. Or maybe I'm just being a fool and it's blatently obvious they are the same person, like it's some kind of joke that I missed? Or I'm just wrong of course... Jonathanpops 19:26, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

I had the same thought, but then again, lots of users rant and rant and rant. Especially vandals. I am not saying that Truli is a vandal, but I had to revert him/her today. So did MariusM. In fact, we even coordinated it a bit (see MariusM's talk page) which is probably a first for the two of us. - Mauco 19:42, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I for one have no idea what to think. Of course my immediate reaction was the same, I assumed that he was one of Mark's aliases. There are far too many similarities between their styles and for a new user, Truli seems to know a remarkable deal about Wikipedia policy and previous debates regarding the two articles he favors. But I cannot be sure. Truli's style seems to be different, he doesn't make as many accidental mistakes in his writing and the ones he does commit seem to be more idiomatic in nature than I would expect from a native English speaker. I want to assume good faith and believe that he's simply a new editor who is still learning the workings of Wikipedia, but it is hard to do so under the circumstances. TSO1D 00:24, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Seems like he/she is gone now. Maybe for good? - Mauco 20:17, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Plus and Minus numbers

[edit]

This has nothing to do with anything here, but I wondered if you could tell me what the plus and minus numbers mean next to people's names on the edit histories in my watch list? Like (+60) in green or (-20) in red. I never noticed those before, have they just appeared or have I just been a bit blind? Jonathanpops 12:22, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. :) Jonathanpops 18:26, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello, and thank you for the support on my recent RfA despite your concerns. The final tally was 63/3/2, and I have now been entrusted with the mop. I hope I can live up to your trust, and certainly welcome any and all feedback. All the best, and thanks again! — Agathoclea 12:27, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Germany

[edit]
The Original Barnstar
I award you this barnstar for your continuous improvements on the Germany article. Regardless of whether or not the current FA nomination ends up being successful, you should be proud of the great strides the article has made under your recent supervision. While the FA process can be mind-numbingly tedious, it has clearly benefited the article immensely. Pascal.Tesson 22:36, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Congrats on the barnstar. I see from your contribution log that you worked really hard on whipping Germany into shape. - Mauco 05:31, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. TSO1D 15:30, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

The talk page for Transnistria is nearing 200 Kb again. You did a good job of archiving the last time. Some of it has to stay (ongoing discussion), but whenever you feel that the time is ready, please go ahead and archive some of the inactive stuff. Thank you. - Mauco 05:31, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I archived about 120kb of text. There is still a lot left, but most of it unbelievably is from the last three days. TSO1D 15:31, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

First, Happy New Year!
I've noticed your interest in Transnistria, and maybe you would like to vote in the survey on the inclusion in Tiraspol article of the images with the Soviet tank monument in Tiraspol and Transnistrian Government building in Tiraspol with statue of Lenin in front. The survey is here. Thank you, Dl.goe

"Foreign Spellings"

[edit]

I do understand your point about making some of the links inactive; that is why I made the comment, much work to do. However, I beg to differ with you regarding the choice of spelling.

A number of editors have made it clear that we are to use foreign spellings for words from other languages, whenever possible. I listed them in my discussion comments, so as to make sure that no one would think I was being capricious. Most of those people I listed were long-time Wikipedians, many of them administrators, most of them non-English speakers, which of course lends them greater expertise than me. Their arguments, found on the Franz Josef Strauss page, were very persuasive, and they carried the vote on the subject. I think you need to check with them before you revert me again. 65.80.244.202 19:40, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

I think it's rude of you to revert me again without so much as responding to the comments on the discussion pages. Do you not understand what I'm doing? 65.80.244.202 19:44, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Sorry for saying so, but I think I only understand too well what you are doing. TSO1D 19:48, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
I think you are uncertain of how it is that we are to do things. But I shall look farther to make sure. 65.80.244.202 22:11, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean. TSO1D 01:00, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Something, where he signed his name as Ioan de Huneodara, or he used that form. He himself, not others. --91.120.109.34 01:05, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I have no idea whether he actually used that name. However, I have seen that form on several sources, so I don't believe it's too much to have it appear once by his name on his son's article. TSO1D 01:27, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
