"My friends on Twitter didn't abandon their beliefs or their principles — only their scorn. They channeled their infinitely justifiable offense and came to me with pointed questions tempered with kindness and humor. They approached me as a human being, and that was more transformative than two full decades of outrage, disdain and violence. I know that some might not have the time or the energy or the patience for extensive engagement, but as difficult as it can be, reaching out to someone we disagree with is an option that is available to all of us." - Megan Phelps-Roper, TED talk
My name is Derk-Jan Hartman. I used to edit, am an administrator on English Wikipedia and former administrator on Commons. I mostly deal with tech stuff. I'm a volunteer contributor to the MediaWiki software that runs Wikipedia, dealing with things like accessibility, scripting, CSS, small bugs, mobile, video and so much more.. A long time ago I was one of the volunteer developers of VLC media player.
Most of my time is spent answering questions of editors on the technical Village Pump, maintaining the site specific Javascript and CSS, working on templates and doing administrative work with regard to images (moving, deleting etc). I also do a lot of work with various User scripts and Gadgets. My article interests are with topics regarding space and the Netherlands. I'm an occasional author for The Signpost.
Articles that I significantly edited and brought to GA/FA
Folded references a small script that collapses refs by default and it uses show/hide.
User:TheDJ/slimpopups.js will be a new implementation of popups that will be faster and slimmer.
User:TheDJ/svg.js a script for Safari, that replaces all svg thumbnails with the actual SVG files. (bandwith hog, only for those who want to experiment).
Some people are really nice and have seen it fit to award me a barnstar. If vandals are one side of the Wikipedia spectrum, these people are surely at the complete opposite end.
