Robert H. Hamilton (Born February 12, 1982) better known by the stage name Pop_a_lot is an American rapper from Brooklyn, New York. He received national attention for his collaboration with Badboy recording artist Red Café. And released several solo musical projects as CEO and founder of SMG (Struggle Music Group).

Early Life and Career[edit]

Pop_a_lot was born Robert H. Hamilton to the Mother of Sandra Johnson and Father Henry R. Hamilton in Brooklyn, NY. He lived there for part of his childhood which he was eventually sent to live with his father in Dade Country, FL. His father provided the strong parental guidance necessary to help him better focus on his education. After he graduated out of High School he later relocated to Bad News,VA. While living his life in VA he used writing was an tool to express his emotions about the trials and tribulations he faced growing up as a teen. He was heavily influenced by rap legends Nas, E-40, and Scarface and soon gained confidence in his own abilities and set out to perform in various talent shows around the state of VA with his group “Pos and Neg” formed with childhood friend Torae. While living in VA he cultivated a distinct sound using the Musical styling regarded as rap "Trap Music". It was at this moment when he started to lay down the building blocks which would be the foundation of his career. He kept busy forming a new group called “ The Click Clack Commission” which generated buzz and gained the attention of Diamond Back Entertainment. Soon after the Group released their first project “World Series Vol. 1”. The album achieved success on the local scene and gained the attention of fellow artist(s) Fat Joe, Styles P, and Remy Ma. With the success of the group's first project it lead to a 2nd release titled “World Series Vol. 2. Using the momentum of the group's success in the underground/rap scene Pop_a_lot continued and started work on his solo career forming his own entertainment company (SMG) where he later released a mixtape titled “Go Ham or Go home” in 2009. He continued work and was featured on both solo and compilation mixtapes working with DJ Fletch, Grandson, Trigga Mane, and Lil Mook. He was also featured on the track with Bad boy recording star Red Café "High School BS 2". In the year 2010 he struck a digtial distribution deal with "Deep Distribution" Worldwide Inc. to make 2 of his albums titled "Summer School" and "Your Favorite Rapper" available nationally on Itunes. Currently he is set release an album titled "Indie Puttin' On Like A Major" with Amagram Digital spring 2011.
