Skratch 'N Sniff is a syndicated rock and hip hop radio show based in San Diego and hosted by Malcolm Ryker (known as Malcolm) and DJ Mike Czech. It airs on about 50 affiliates around the United States.

About the show[edit]

Skratch 'N Sniff is a two-hour show airing once a week on weekends.[1] Malcolm handles the production work, voice work and affiliate relations. DJ Mike Czech produces the mixes, where different songs from different styles are put together as in sampling|. Both men host the show and answer phones and email. Listeners often want to buy the recordings but they are not for sale. Saving Abel and Helmet might be put together with Lil Wayne, or Pantera with Tupac Shakur. The show includes artists that are rarely heard anywhere else, including Yelawolf, Rehab and Kottonmouth Kings.[2]

History[edit]

Skratch 'N Sniff began March 9, 2003 on modern rock station 91X in San Diego.[3] Malcolm had worked at Z-Rock and was the last production manager at KNAC. DJ Mike Czech was a leading hip-hop DJ on San Diego's 90Z.[2] Malcolm took the attitude of extreme sports and added the concept of mixing together the different styles of music.[3]

Malcolm describes the show's origins this way:

Hip-hop and rock were out drinking one night and they ended up in a hotel together. Neither one of them remembered how they got there when they woke up in the morning. Nine months later, Skratch N’ Sniff was born. He never met his father.”[4]

Skratch 'N Sniff airs on affiliates in Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, and Tampa.[4] In San Diego it is now heard on KIOZ.[5]
