The bit about the deputy thinking DD was his daughter and frantically calling the department to check on his daughter was removed as "trivia" but i don't think many cases like DD's have the police thinking that the victim is a relative. Paul Benjamin Austin (talk) 08:27, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Paul Benjamin Austin: I'd hesitate on reverting, but perhaps a discussion on the talk page could be created. I myself have a habit of adding information that other users consider "trivia" and the user who made the edit is someone who is more on the experienced side of editing, so I'm a bit unsure on where to go from here.--GouramiWatcherTalk 05:39, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Murders of Kerry Graham and Francine Trimble[edit]

Hi, Nick. Sorry to contact you out of the blue. As you know I've been devoting focus to the Murders of Kerry Graham and Francine Trimble article as of late, and looking in the Commons section, there aren't facial reconstructions like there are on other articles. I was wondering if, given your exhaustive and commendable work within these areas on Wikipedia alone, you could (in your own time of course) upload created reconstructions of the victims to the Commons? I note you've uploaded images such as 'Dana Point Jane Doe sketch'. (This is an ideal imagery candidate in my opinion.) Thanks and all the best for 2018.--Kieronoldham (talk) 03:37, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kieronoldham: I can upload the non-free NCMEC renderings to be used on Wikipedia. There aren't any free renderings available for the two (I tried contacting NCMEC a few years ago to see if they's allow free usage on the Commons but they declined). The Dana Point rendering is in the commons because it was produced by a California government agency (the coroner's office), so that's why I was able to upload it. Thanks for your message! --GouramiWatcherTalk 04:30, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Nick. You're more eminent in this field of analysis which is primarily why I refrained from even attempting to upload images myself. I also had a very bed seizure earlier which was a further factor. I'll continue with this article in the coming weeks. All the best and hope you have an excellent New Year celebration. Harris County John Doe (1973)[edit]

Hi, Nick,

This may be nothing pertinent (or a possibility somebody has already investigated and discounted as being the above decedent), but I recalled this name being in my 1st archived talk page as a suggested name for the above decedent. He may have already been discounted as a possible match, that is if ever put forward, but any information is, I imagine, welcome. The contributor only left his IP address on my talk page in November 2011. The NamUs page for ML73-3356 has not been updated in four years. It may be nothing, but worth a shot. Best regards, --Kieronoldham (talk) 01:33, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Kieronoldham: I think I could send an email to investigating officials. Probably not suitable to add to his entry on the list. There aren't any missing person cases under the name "Haynes" available so there is a possibility he's unreported and hasn't been compared to the victim by authorities.--GouramiWatcherTalk 04:06, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wineville Chicken Coop edit[edit]

Hi,

I saw that you reverted my edit, and were asking for a source. My only edits were (1) changing "abused" to "abuse" to fit with the tense of the sentence, and (2) italicizing American Horror Story. The San Francisco "Doodler Murders" Update 6/20/18[edit]

https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/20/us/doodler-cold-case-murders/index.html

Article states that bar patrons reported a suspect who met the physical description, was carrying a sketchpad and a butcher's knife. Why was he not detained? Why wasn't he prosecuted? Can you ask the reporter?

Gacy victim 'Body 13'.[edit]

Hi, Gourami Watcher. I encountered this case at The Charley Project the other day, and wondered if he could be a possibility to be Body 13? This case has arguably been more neglected (with the possible exception of Body 10) more than any other unidentified Gacy victim. I know he was last seen several months before the victim was est. to have been murdered, but, any lead is worth pursuing, and he has wavy brown hair which seemingly wasn't released re. the unidentified decedents to the media prior to this month. Regards,--Kieronoldham (talk) 02:44, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I actually searched through missing people the day they released the new reconstructions and thought Steven could be him. I'll probably forward this to law enforcement or The Doe Network.--GouramiWatcherTalk 03:48, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting the correct edit.[edit]

Hello Gourami,

I noticed that my edit of the 1 article was reverted. My reason for the edit is thus. Larry was gay. Larry was a student. However, I feel that he should not be described as a "gay student" unless the perpetrator, Brandon McInerney, is described as a "straight student".

No reply is necessary, and I respect your decision.

Best, Tai

Hi. If I have put this in the wrong area. Please forgive me? I just noticed that you reverted the edit I made to The Boy in the Box. I edited about the man's cap and the handkerchief. As I'm a criminology major, I have studied this crime in great detail and noticed the 2 errors on the page. So I just corrected it. You do want it to be accurate don't you? I know how testy the Writer's of Wikipedia articles get, but I thought a correction was needed. Redrecks (talk) 12:51, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Redrecks: The edit din't seem to be sourced so that is why I reverted. I've followed the case for the past ten years and from what I've read, the original text supported what I knew.--GouramiWatcherTalk 06:49, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Here is just one site. The main page is here; https://www.historicmysteries.com/the-boy-in-the-box/ There is a quick menu along the left of the page. This is the link to the evidence; http://americasunknownchild.net/summary.htm

There are many more sites with this exact crime scene articles in the text. The reference I followed that is supplied on the Wikipedia article is the only article I have read that mistakenly has a child's hat. When the articles mention that there was a man's cap, too big for a child.

Hope that helps?

Your into unlawful homicides? Redrecks (talk) 22:24, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for changing it back. It's best to be accurate. No hard feelings I hope? Redrecks (talk) 11:07, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Redrecks: No hard feelings. :)--GouramiWatcherTalk 21:03, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If I can help with anything else on the pages you have written on a true crime that needs some amendments, may I? I may find absolutely nothing. But I thought I would offer. Cheers. Redrecks (talk) 10:06, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Redrecks: I'm in college myself, so I'll be pretty occupied for a while, but feel free to take a look. A lot of the murders/missing person articles are in need of expansion and there's always room to create new articles as long as the subject is notable.--GouramiWatcherTalk 21:25, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not that good on creating new articles. The jargon I need to know and write get's me stuck. I'm perfectly alright with editing and possibly expanding something that's already partly there, but the rest... I just literally get into trouble as the original author get's mad. And such at the edits and extras added. Where can I learn to create a new article? There are some interesting crimes and such out there. What are you studying? Do you have a Facebook page or something so I can contact you that way for assistance or whatever? It's up to you. Redrecks (talk) 15:55, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Reply[edit]

So would you like me to show you where this information is sourced? Then you can put it in. Redrecks (talk) 22:03, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Redrecks: I'll go ahead and add this detail. I see on BitB's website there is a mention the cap is a man's and not a child's. I hadn't looked on that site for a while, since it appeared it may not have been updated in some time (similar to the Princess Doe site).--GouramiWatcherTalk 00:00, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just bringing your attention to Murder of Rachael Runyan. Whoever created the article decided to emhphasise Rachael's status as a toddler beauty queen. It's not as if she needed her female sex enhanced, not many little boys are called "Rachael". sigh... Paul Benjamin Austin (talk) 03:09, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Paul Benjamin Austin: I don't think it's too emphasized in her article. I'm thinking the picture was chosen simply because it's one of the clearer and better-known images of her.--GouramiWatcherTalk 15:48, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Gourami Watcher:, I understand. It just reminds me of how no one lets JonBenet Ramsey be an ordinary kid - she must always be the child beauty queen. As Rachael's mother states, Little Miss Sunset wasn't a Toddlers and Tiaras type pageant of the kind that JonBenet did, it was just a fun local thing. Gary Ridgway[edit]

Per your edit summary here, did you check the talkpage? All the RS tell us the spelling is "Kase," but the alleged brother did provide an obituary with a different spelling. The primary sources provided by the account on the talkpage and the connections drawn between them shouldn't carry more weight than all the RS, but it's probably worth considering putting it as a possible alternate spelling. No way of knowing if the claim about being the victim's brother is true, but on the chance it is, we shouldn't ignore that, per BLPKIND. Grandpallama (talk) 19:23, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Therichest.com as a source[edit]

Hi Gourami Watcher. I noticed that you recently used Therichest.com as a source for biographical information in Michael Harold Chapel. Please note that the general consensus as expressed at WP:RSN is that it does not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for the inclusion of personal information in such articles. If you disagree, let's discuss it. Thanks.--Hipal/Ronz (talk) 19:35, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hipal:, no worries. I sometimes have a habit of not giving enough thought into whether a source is reliable to Wikipedia's standards (despite my nearly 11 years of experience!). I appreciate your link to the RSN page, which I'll be sure to review. I was planning on expanding the MHC article, and I was in the process of finding additional material, as well as more sources. I did add the Find A Grave link, knowing that the site has raised questions on reliability, yet the template still exists (after a deletion nomination), and I assumed it could provide additional information about the victim. Cheers! --GouramiWatcherTalk 22:24, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Commons images[edit]

Hi, Gourami. Do you believe this image and this image both also should be marked for Commons deletiion?--Kieronoldham (talk) 02:50, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say File:John wayne gacy death row.png is more than likely not the original work of the uploader, so I'd nominate that one for sure. File:The CandyMan.jpg is going to need an OTRS verification, so the author listed is going to have to be contacted with the required information to forward to the permissions team.--GouramiWatcherTalk 02:54, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The Gacy image was taken by a Menard guard at the request of Jason Moss in either very late 1993 or early 1994. Can be seen here. Moss committed suicide in (I think) 2006, so unless the uploader is the guard in question.....--Kieronoldham (talk) 02:58, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Gacy unidentified victim 'Body 21'.[edit]

Does the approximate age range of this victim need refining? Approximate age range of 15 to 24 (as in both references currently within the article) seems a little unspecific. Other sources state 21 to 27. Can you find a suitable reference and adjust the estimated age range of this unidentified victim on the Gacy article? Or do you think the currently displayed age range suffices? I believe the possibility has already been forwarded to investigators, but this individual is a likely candidate for this unidentified victim to my mind. Regards,--Kieronoldham (talk) 03:08, 17 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Kieronoldham: Sorry for the late response. I keep forgetting to check my talk page. Anyway, I know this potential match was submitted before, and the Cook County Sheriff has conducted exhaustive comparisons to missing males against the remaining six John Does. I'd be surprised if they hadn't considered Craig Conner before, and from what I hear, dental records are available for both cases. Perhaps a footnote could be added to the Gacy article to mention the possibility this victim was possibly as old as 27. --GouramiWatcherTalk 03:03, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Gourami Watcher:. No worries, Nick. I'll look into the age range and try and find a reputable ref. going forward. I do think this individual is a strong possibility for Body 21 (possibly, even Body 10 given the facial structure of the artistic reconstruction). I added this text upon another Wiki user's page the other day regarding the efforts to identify the (at the time) nine unidentified victims in 1980: "The only thing I can think of is looking at the records (if any exist) of tips submitted to Betty Pat Gatliff or Robert Stein when the original reconstructions were released to the media in 1980, as Gatliff is known to have recollected she received two separate phone calls from two sisters in "different Chicago suburbs" who "gave the same boy's name, and said he was their brother. They said their mother refused to either talk about this, or to release the boy's dental records. McCoy wasn't from Illinois, and Bundy and Haakenson had only one sister, so it has to be one of the remaining six." Regards,--Kieronoldham (talk) 03:22, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature is breaking syntax highlighting[edit]

Hello Gourami Watcher,

Your signature is breaking syntax highlighting on Talk pages due to unbalanced HTML tag syntax. For example, in this edit at Talk:Bear Brook murders; here is a copy of your signature from that page:

--<font face=FangSong><font color=#D60270>Gourami</font><font color=#9B4F96>Watcher</font><font color=#0038A8>Talk</font></font>

The problem is the misplaced </font> tag; do you see it? Your second Wikilink, the one that generates the "Talk" link, has a font-begin tag inside the brackets, but the matching font-end tag is outside the bracket expression—this is illegal HTML syntax. Please fix that, as you are breaking syntax highlighting on every page that you visit and sign. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 00:54, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to check if your signature is still broken after you fix it, you can run the signature tool in toolforge. If you click it now, it will find and identify the same error as I did, above. Mathglot (talk) 05:10, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just today, I was reading the unidentified wiki. Honestly, cold cases are something I'm very interested in, especially the WCJD, since that one has a lot of stories, and its sad too. Although reading your articles gave me a phobia in 6th grade, I would sometimes see creepy reconstruction faces at night, not to mention I was VERY scared of getting murdered because I lived in a somewhat dangerous neighboorhood (there were arrests and robberries in front of my window!), and I was up all night getting scared, yet I was still addicted to reading these Wikipedia articles. Oh and yesterday was the decedent's 40th anniversary, and she's still unidentified. Personally, I think Tammy, WCJD, and the Bear Brook Murders are the top/important cases in the US for a wide variety of reasons. a gd fan (talk) 21:03, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New WikiProject Idea[edit]

UID Images[edit]

Hey I really appreciate all the effort you're going through to add more images to the UID pages, especially for cases I added. I would myself, but I seem to have a ton of issues relating to proper copyright, so the help is extremely appreciated. Doggybag2355 (talk) 21:21, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Doggybag2355: Sorry for the delayed response! What I keep in mind while adding images to the Wikimedia Commons is that original works by the governments of Florida and California, as well as the FBI, are in the public domain. I don't upload a file unless I'm positive it fits into these categories, so it's important to make sure the image in question is specified to be that of an artist affiliated with these agencies. Mugshots and department of motor vehicle photographs would also be in the public domain.

I have uploaded postmortem images from California-based cases, although I prefer to use reconstructions of the subject. In my opinion, it's best to add images of a decedent's body if they're labeled as having a "recognizable face" and there aren't obvious signs of trauma and the facial expression isn't pained and the eyes are closed. I'm mostly desensitized to viewing these sensitive images after six years of research, but I keep in mind that most members of the public and those new to this topic aren't used to seeing them.

I believe Florida has a law against agencies releasing postmortem photographs after the death of Dale Earnhardt, so I've mostly avoided adding the few that have appeared on NamUs.

Through research, I was able to determine that artists such as Samantha Steinberg, Autumn Krick, Paul Moody, and Jorge Molina are employed by police departments, so their work is safe to upload. Most of the California images are specified to be the work of an agency. --GouramiWatcherTalk 01:55, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
