STOP with the categorization![edit]

I noticed your categorization efforts yesterday, and it immediately occurred to me that that what you are doing is superfluous doubling and tripling of necessary categories. E.g., if a taxon is already in the category "Endemic birds of South Africa", it should NOT also be in the less specific categories "Fauna of Africa" and "Endemic fauna of Africa". I trust you see the redundancy there - these categories are actually nested, so all you are doing is pointlessly multplying entries. I checked with the Categorization Wikiproject and was confirmed in my suspicion. In addition, many of your added "endemic" cats are wrong - e.g., the Cape cormorant is not endemic to South Africa, since it also occurs in Namibia. - I am therefore asking you to stop this redundant categorization. All of these edits will have to be undone. I shall be asking an administrator to perform a mass rollback. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 22:02, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Final warning[edit]

Switching from spurious biogeography categories to spurious conservation categories now, I see. Of the ten random samples I pulled of your current spree, seven were wrong - the species did not even have an IUCN categorisation. I have, again, reverted all of these edits. Apparently it wasn't clear enough the last time round, so here it is in bold: The next time you start applying mass categories with this appalling sloppiness, you are very likely to be blocked from editing. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 16:35, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

... so apparently we have to do this in small steps. You can only add material to Wikipedia if you can provide a reliable reference. In the case of claimed IUCN status, that is the respective IUCN page. You cannot just add a status into the taxbox; you also need to provide a citation to that species page, and it is unrealistic to expect other people to clean up after you by providing these in your stead. To add the status citation to the box, I suggest using this template:
<ref name=IUCN>{{cite iucn |url=[page address]|title=[page title]|authors= [assessor names]|year=[assessment date]|accessdate=[today's date]}}</ref>
Replace the placeholders in square brackets (including the brackets) with the page's respective data, and add the template into the box at "status_ref = ". --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 20:02, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Protea burchellii, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 17:25, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
