User talk:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions, especially what you did for Leon MacDonald. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Here are some other hints and tips:

  • I recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.

If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or type {{helpme}} on this talk page and a user will help you as soon as possible. I will try to answer your questions as best as I can. Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. 220 of Borg 18:20, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Edit Summaries[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. - 220 of Borg 18:33, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Mac-D-onald or Mac-d-onald[edit]

Edit summaries are good for explaining the rationale for changing the case of the D in the surname as you did at Hoani MacDonald, Leon MacDonald and John Macdonald. - 220 of Borg 18:33, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

The available sources on these pages indicate that upper case (ie. D not d) is correct for Hoani MacDonald & Leon MacDonald, therefore I have reverted your edits to these pages. If you have a reliable source that suggests that the opposite is correct, please provide it or discuss the issue on the article talk/discussion pages. Please continue to contribute to Wikipedia. - 220 of Borg 19:04, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
