August 2007: external links[edit]

Information.svg Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Climate change. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Brusegadi 03:30, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

September 2008: dealing with copyright violations[edit]

Your edit yesterday to Cullinan Diamond was not in accordance with Wikipedia's policy on copyright violations. The section "Dealing with copyright violations" says, among other things:

If you suspect a copyright violation, you should at least bring up the issue on that page's discussion page. Others can then examine the situation and take action if needed. The most helpful piece of information you can provide is a URL or other reference to what you believe may be the source of the text.

The same section also explains the proper procedure for nominating a page for deletion because of a copyright violation. This is what one should do as a last resort, rather than replacing all of the text with an unreferenced assertion that it constitutes a copyvio.

If you still think the article has been copied verbatim from a copyrighted source, please post, on Talk:Cullinan_Diamond, the URL of the IMDb page you think contains the original, copyrighted text. You should note, however, that some parts of IMDb, such as forum pages and plot synopses, can be edited by users, and that it is quite possible that the text appearing at IMDb has been copied from Wikipedia and not the other way round.

I don't mean to discourage you from pointing out copyright violations in Wikipedia, it's just that you need to follow proper procedure so other editors are able to determine if a copyvio has actually occurred. --Bwiki (talk) 14:29, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
