Infinity

[edit]

Most of the wordings of your edits are fine, but can you explain how 12R and C18 are spin-offs/reboots of Infinity, and at the same time also are not part of Infinity? I feel like we might be working under different definitions for these terms. Would you consider, say, Final Fantasy Tactics "not a Final Fantasy game"?--AlexandraIDV 22:42, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The "Infinity" series specifically points to a trilogy of games. The only games in this series are the ones with "infinity" in the subtitle. It's a bit hard to find something similar since the games don't share characters and only have minor references, but an example I might give would be that Infinity is to 12Riven like Doctor Who is to Torchwood. It would be very strange to call Torchwood a Doctor Who series, even if they are tangentially related. Furthermore, 12Riven was meant to be the beginning of a new series of games, the Liminal series, but it never got off the ground. Because of this, the bundle that included Infinity+12Riven was called Infinityplus, because it was Infinity... + 12Riven, and they wanted to note the difference there.

Code_18 is even harder to explain because it really does not have any of the themes, staff, or characters from other Infinity, and doesn't even take place in the same universe. I guess you could say Infinity is to Code_18 the same way Megaman is to Mighty No. 9. It would also be pretty strange to call Mighty No. 9 a Megaman game, I mean, copyright aside, even though you could say the "spirit" or basic structure is there, it's pretty much as different as can be. This may not be wiki-material, but for what it's worth, to call Code_18 an Infinity game is also very much a disgrace to the Infinity series, and though that isn't bounds to remove it from the series, I don't think it belonged in the first place. It is annoying that there isn't a good term that covers them all, but if one wanted to include Never7, Ever17, Remember11, 12Riven, and Code_18 in a series, I would say it should be the Infinity+ series, or maybe even Infinity ++ considering Code_18 is a new beast entirely. --Mori/the person who did all the edits
