Date format Change:'British' to US style[edit]

Information icon In a recent edit to the page Chopper Read, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you.

Personal note:

Specifically you changed Read's birth date from dd/MMMM/yyyy to MMMM/dd/yyyy format. Or simply, you put the month before the day ie. Oct. 11. 2013 rather than 11 Oct.2013 as is usual in Australia and on Wikipedia pages about Australians. Sert - happy smile.svg 220 of Borg 01:01, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the hint. In the future, I will pay attention to this issue. 77.56.53.183 (talk) 01:44, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
:-) Thank you for the polite reply '77'. It is always a good idea to reply to messages on you talk page. Hopefully they will be polite too! All editors, registered or not are supposed to WP:Assume good faith. I was an 'IP' editor for over two years, and had very little 'hassle' with other editors. I do though strongly suggest getting a username. It has many benefits an makes extra tools available that make editing easier. Edits focused on removing whitespace in source[edit]

Hello '77'.

I notice that you have made a lot of edits recently, and that the bulk of many of these edits consists of changes to the source formatting. In particular, I notice you changing headings from === Head === to ===Head===, and removing a space after the * in list items.

Leaving aside my opinion of which styles are "best", I think making these changes will be considered unhelpful by many editors. I am not sure where to find the policy on making such changes, but I will note that the Manual of Style allows that general formating need not be consistant throughout Wikipedia. Furthermore, such changes can (and probably should) be made by bots, if appropriate, necessary, and approved.

Many parts of your edits are helpful, so thank you for your efforts. —WOFall (talk) 01:23, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

Actually, as you are making so many of these edits, I think you should probably be able to point me to the relevant policies. Please do, if possible. —WOFall (talk) 20:51, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm XLinkBot. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the page Gerald Guralnik, because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links.
Your edit here to Gerald Guralnik was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=BDA16F52CA3C9B1D, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLZ78gwWQI0) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Information icon Thank you for your edit to the disambiguation page Kosova (disambiguation). However, please note that disambiguation pages are not articles; rather, they are meant to help readers find a specific article quickly and easily. From the disambiguation dos and don'ts, you should:

  • Be familiar with the guidelines and style
  • Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
  • Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
  • Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry
    • Only add a "red link" if used in an article, and include the "blue link" to that article
  • Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
  • Do not insert external links or references

While your dab edits are good, piping a link to another dab page is not correct per WP:INTDAB [1] . Sorry to template, but the removal of whitespace while leaving other issues unfixed seems a bit obscure. Being as a few of us have flagged up your lack of using edit summaries, you can expect more warnings unless you start. Widefox; talk 22:35, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted or removed.

  • If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor then please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant notice boards.
  • If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive, until the dispute is resolved through consensus. Continuing to edit disruptively could result in loss of editing privileges. This long term disruption - whitespace removal and lack of edit summaries must end. This type of low level disruption goes under the radar often. To underline this, but without making any comment on the quality of your edits in general, it is time that we draw a line and affect this needed change. Widefox; talk 22:58, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
