Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: It matches the name of the entity whose article you are editing and appears to be a "corporate" (de facto shared as opposed to individual) account. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. --Dynaflow babble 01:56, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Aauonline. Concerns have been raised that your username may be incompatible with policy. You can contribute to the discussion about it here. Alternatively, if you agree that your username may be problematic and are willing to change it, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under a new name. Simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account. Thank you. Lwalt ♦ talk 10:26, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]

I have blocked this username, as it violates our username and conflict of interest policy. You may request a rename and your account will be unblocked, or you may create a new account with a name that does not violate the policy. If you wish to do a rename, say so here. Do note, however, that you must abide by the COI policy under any username, and you are advised to refrain from editing Academy of Art University directly. You may post on the talk page, though. If you have any questions, you may post them here as I will be watching this page. ÷seresin 05:01, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Blocked

[edit]

Hello, seresin. The Aauonline account was created in 2008 to keep factual information up-to-date on the Academy of Art University wikipedia page.

We are sensitive to your concern about a conflict of interest that may arise. Our goal with the account is to keep information such as enrollment numbers, events and similar items current. As enrollment numbers change frequently, we have made frequent updates.

Please let me know if there is any way we may continue to make such updates. Our feeling is that this gives Wikipedia users the best information, and we will continue to be sensitive to concerns about editing the page and avoid editing in a manner that is inconsistent with Wikipedia's rules.

In addition, I do understand the rules surrounding user names, and I apologize that our name has been found to be in violation of the rules. We would be happy to change this name so that it is no longer in violation. Please let us know if that would be acceptable.

Thank you. Aauonline (talk) 19:09, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

An answer to the question posed below would facilitate this request. As it has been two days, I'm going to close this out - please feel free to re-request with a response. Kuru (talk) 15:53, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Besides your massive conflict of interest, and the fact that enrollment numbers, events, etc are not encyclopedic in any way, what types of edits would you plan on making should you be unblocked? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 21:50, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry for the delay. The reason the original name was chosen was to create a sense of transparency. We never intended for it to cause a problem.

We have in the past made edits based on other typical university and college pages (like these: Savannah College of Art and Design, University of Michigan and University of Missouri). These pages all have notable faculty and alumni, which we have tried to keep up to date as it is our understanding that it would be of interest to people looking for information on the school. All of them include enrollment numbers as well. Some of them also have notable events because they are of interest to either their communities or to people researching the school. Academy of Art University, for instance is the only school that is invited to show their collections at New York Fashion Week, which can certainly be documented by news sources and others.

Most notably, we would like to update faculty and alumni areas. We also have updated accreditation info, which it is my understanding would be relevant to those who are interested in learning more about the school.

Thank you.
