Hello Hello Hello! Welcome to our chat page. Remember, this page is on wikipedia, so it is visible to all, but it's not obvious to all, so it does give us an element of privacy. I created this talk page, if you would like to ask me any questions or if I want to ask you something. Put this in your watch list, so you will see if there's anything new.

I think I have email enabled, but if I don't and you need to use it, here it is: adam.mugliston5498@yahoo.co.uk . If I don't know the answer, I will tell you - if I think you are doing something wrong, I will tell you. You currently have a full supply of AGF from me, but depending on your actions this may not last long. As far as I see, you have been doing well, so don't worry.

Questions from Adam to Trichoses[edit]

You need to tell me when you would like to do the test and you should not edit pages that have not got your name on them. I moved your answers to your adoption page, but next time tell me either here or somewhere on your adoption page that you are ready.  Adam Mugliston  Talk  08:29, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adam, I'm trying to answer the msg you left me, but i don't see it here in edit. I'm sure I've clicked the wrong thing.
Anyway, i didn't realize that about tests. out of curiosity, was i supposed to know that because it's obvious, or was it written down and i missed it? you see, this is another example of what confuses me about computers/internet/webpages et al.

thanks --Trichoses (talk) 21:58, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, yes, you were supposed to know that, as I would have thought it was rather obvious, as it did not have your name on, so it could be used for many people and I have 6 adoptees at the moment and because so far I always put all content into your adoption page. Also, I did write it although not directly. At the very bottom of your adoption page it says: Are you ready for the test? suggesting you should tell me when you would like to do it. Don't worry about it, you're learning at the moment and we all make mistakes.  Adam Mugliston  Talk  09:20, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Questions from Trichoses to Adam[edit]

Hi Adam, I have 2 questions so far.

1. What is AGF?

AGF means Assume Good Faith, why don't you have a look at WP:AGF? You will come across it many, many times just in these lessons, but also all across Wikipedia. I, myself, have had many problems in the past for not assuming good faith.

2. What is a 'pipe' as in "An internal link, with a pipe (usually found under the backspace) separating the title and the text to be displayed" thanks,

The pipe character is a: | As part of an internal link I'll give you an example. So, say I wanted to link to your user page: [[User:Trichoses]], but I wanted to instead display 'this user', when coding, I would write: [[User:Trichoses|this user]]. Tell me if you still need clarifying.

3. Wow! I'm really impressed with the AGF page. I've never seen someone state this principle in such a useable and non-dogmatic way.

Also, thank you for your email. It has cleared up those problems. I feel like I'm on a firmer footing and there may be hope for me after all! --Trichoses (talk) 04:32, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pleased.  Adam Mugliston  Talk  07:48, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand the insert image directions. Is it only for images that are already in wiki? Even it that's correct, I don't understand "Exactly the same as an internal link, however the pipe works differently. The Image: prefix and .jpg (or whatever) extension MUST be present." There is no pipe in the example, is there? --Trichoses (talk) 19:47, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, I understand your problem. By 'the same as an internal link', it means just for images on the English Wikipedia, as far as I'm aware, however I don't do anything with images, as my past attempts seem to have failed. No, there's no pipe in the example. What that means, is that the pipe as in normal links (as I explained above), will not just show text below. The pipe is there to separate parameters, if you need to use them. Parameters are easier to understand after my template lesson, so I won't go into details now.

OK. I think I'll ignore inserting images for now. I'd probably never use it anyway.--Trichoses (talk) 03:02, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's a very good idea. There's also all sorts of problems with copyright with images (more about those in the copyright lesson).  Adam Mugliston  Talk  07:57, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
