Addbot questions

Hi, I'm looking into the whole bot-tagging-orphans issue, and was hoping to get some info and your opinion:

 1. I know your bot scans Lonelypages, UnCatBot scans UncategorizedPages, and I don't know where SoxBot scans but I asked and it hasn't tagged an orphan since June 1 anyways. Do you know of any other orphan-tagging bots?
 2. Why hasn't your bot tagged an orphan in a while?
 3. My hope (in LonelyPages#Does anyone use this?) is to justify implementing User:Shunpiker's improvement to lift the 1000 item limit on LonelyPages, thereby enabling Addbot to tag most orphans. This is especially important as is seems there is no mainspace-scanning, orphan-tagging bot at present. (Something about the phrase "mainspace-scanning, orphan-tagging bot" is funny to me. Replace bot with "varmint", and it's a Yosemite Sam quote.)

--JaGatalk 17:18, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

My bot can tag uncat's as well as orphans. The reason my bot hasnt tagged in a while is due to the fact that I have not run it in a while. I think removing the 1000 limmit on lonely pages would be a great help and if this happen I would set my bot going though all the pages listed on it he same day :P If you could tell me the day that this happens I would be really happy :P. Also if you want me to start running my bot again for this task regularly please just ask :) ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 20:40, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Great! I'll drop you a line if we can make some headway. Thanks! --JaGatalk 21:49, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, I've started beating the drum. Here's a writeup I did on the Village Pump looking for comment; I'll keep you posted.

UK User spamming

Heya,

Did you ever spam those users about the Oxford Wikimania bid? We're creating a new WMUK to replace the now defunct old one, so it'd be great if you'd be prepared to spam users to advertise that as well. I'll point you to a message to spam if you're prepared to. We'd like it to go to the top maybe 500 on that list I drew up, plus all the admins on the entire list.

Republic of Ireland

Hello there. I got your name from the wikipedia:Highly Active Users/Europe page. I hope you can help me out. There is a discussion going on here at the Republic of Ireland talk page. There is a question being asked on whether a country name can be disambiguated. I would very much appreciate it if you could take a quick look at it and give your answer on the talk page concerned. Thanks, I hope you can help. Skipper 360 (talk) 17:08, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Re Oxford Wikimania 2010

Thank you for your message, and kind invitation. I have to decline at present. I am in the midst of a time-consuming Masters Degree in addition to working full time, and must devote my spare time to that rather than anything else. I wish you the best of luck however with your event. -- roleplayer 19:46, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Thanks, but I'm afraid I can't attend. However, Wikipedia talk:Meetup has been added to my watchlist. I'm afraid I can't make it. I might have homework to do that day, and then the next day, I have school. Therefore, I have to decline the invitation, which I wish I could've accepted. Thank you so much for the offer, anyway, Addshore. I wish you good luck, anyway. Kitty53 (talk) 20:40, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

No Problem ans thanks for the reply. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:11, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania

Hmmm. Well, all I can say is that it's nice to be invited; however, how anyone quite got the idea that I'm a UK Wikipedian is one of life's little mysteries. I live in Australia, on the other side of the world. There's a reason my user name is JackofOz. I'm not planning to be in London any time soon. Thanks anyway. -- JackofOz (talk) 21:04, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Sorry for the miss message. The reason you were included in the notice was because you were in one of the many cats that we trawled through. If I personally ever have to do this again ill try to be a bit more streamlined with my picking ^^. Thanks for reporting this. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:15, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Thanks for the invite, but I live in Australia and don't normally contribute to UK articles. So, I will have to decline. Regards, Spy007au (talk) 23:59, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

 • Likewise (almost). I'm British but live in Mexico. I don't think I'll be much help. Wavehunter (talk) 03:29, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Again sorry to both of you for the miss message. Wavehunter I think the reason you received the message was because you are in the British Wikipedians cat. After all of these reports back there is a trend towards miss messages from these orts of cats as they do not acctually mean the user is in the UK. Thanks for the reports. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:23, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

While I appreciate your note, I am not a UK editor; I've never been there, and do not contribute regularly to UK articles. Consequently, I do not intend to participate in UK Wikimedia planning or events.

Are you sure your bot is functioning properly? I've just had a look over the categories my userboxes have put me in, and I can't figure out how I got on your list.

I don't know any hilarious knock-knock jokes, but lightbulb jokes should work just as well, right?

How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
Quack.
How many people with no sense of humor does it take to change a lightbulb?
One.

Motto of the day

Hello, I notice you're using one of the motd templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:35, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia Copyright Test

1. "The Free Encyclopedia" 2. GNU 3. If somone did that they may be deleted. --Syntheticalconnections (talk) 15:03, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Ok one and two are correct. For number three they would not be deleted. The term used on Wikipedia is blocked. Please see WP:BLOCK for more information. If you want to ask me a question feel free. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 16:25, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Permissions Test

1. An ability to do more than a basic user.

I will give you this

2. Non-protected pages.

3. They can move and create pages and the privleges of a real registered user after 4 days and 10 edits.

4. Edit non fully protected pages, move and create pages, and upload files.

5. By administrators to non-administrators.

Yes but not just to non admins. Rollback can acctually be granted to a user of any state.

6. Accountcreator is only given to users who volunteer for the account creation division to help new and unregistered users create usernames that do not violate the username policy.

7. You have to volunteer for it then you get granted if chosen.

Where can it be requested?

8. They can revert multiple edits all at once. (What does that mean?)

It gives them a simple "Rollback" link on diffs and other areas of the site that will allow them to revert multiple edits by the same user on one article by simply clicking it. If you still dont understand this please query me.

9. Not to be used for anything other than undo-ing vandalism.

10. Delete and restore pages and automaticlly have the rollbacker and accountcreator tool.

As well as this they can block, unblock protect and un-protect. I suggest you read the section on administrators again.

11. Go to the request for adminship page and you have to be trusted. (By some people I don't think I'm trusted just for making a page called Atomsmith because I waned a page on my favorite molecular modeling sytem)

Correct you can go to WP:RFA at any time and seek your fate.

12. Have ability to alter a user's permissions, and they can also alter a bot's access levels and rename accounts.

Correct but I think you should read this section again and try to understand the permission a bit more.

13. Have the ability to grant and revoke any higher access level, including sysop, bureaucrat, checkuser, oversight, steward, and bot access.

14. IP address in certain conditions to check if somone is sockpuppeting. For example the could make another account to vandalise a page then the one wanting to be trusted could un vandalize. Making them SEEM trust worthy.

15. Allows a user to hide a revision from view.

16. A current or former member of the Arbitrtion Commitee. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Syntheticalconnections (talkcontribs) 15:39, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Good overall. I suggest that you re read the page to make sure you fully understand. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 16:37, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

How do I know if there is a vandalism edit? I may have accidentally skipped it in your article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Syntheticalconnections (talkcontribs) 16:07, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Pretty Good...

Hi friend, name's Mike. I was looking at someone's talkpage and you had given them a warning about vandalizing another page. Someone later blocked them, could have been you, not sure. Anyhow, excellent job enforcing the rules. In fact, I was an educator in Florida for a couple of years, and it takes good, clean encyclopedias to get good info from. And that is what you are trying to accomplish. I taught elementary reading. I stopped educating and came back to my home town because the family missed me. Some people ask me why I refer to myself as an educator rather than a teacher, and some people think they are different things. However, I refer to myself as an educator rather than a teacher because I feel as though I was not teaching the minds of my students, rather I educated their minds. In addition, I do not like to refer to anyone as a teacher, I feel they are all educators. I hope you can see my views on this. To end, I do not have a knock knock joke but I do have a joke that should crack you up... here it goes... I was at the flea market this past week where I saw a gentleman selling a set of encyclopedias for $30.00. I approached the gentleman and said, "Sir, may I ask, are you selling this complete set of encyclopedias for just $30.00?" He replied, "Yes I am." I asked him, "Well, sir, what could be wrong with the set, if you are selling them for just $30.00?" He said, "Nothing is wrong with them, in fact they are brand new and they have never even been open!" I asked, "Well sir, may I ask why you would sell a brand new, never opened set of encyclopedias for only $30.00?" He informed me, "I do not need them any more." I was a tad perplexed, so I asked, "Sir, how could you not need a set of encyclopedias anymore?" He said, "You see, I just got married and my new wife knows it all." Ha ha ha. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.3.119.127 (talk) 14:58, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

4's or 8's?

Hi friend! It's Mike. I have an interesting story about one night when I was working at a snack bar. A gentleman ordered a pizza from me. Upon taking it out of the oven, I asked him, "Say, would you like me to cut it in 4's or 8's?" The man responded, "Cut it in 4, I'm not hungry enough to eat 8." Ha ha ha! By the way, I've noticed you haven't responded to any of my other messages, I figure you are busy. That's ok, because I get busy sometimes too. I hope you like my previous messages. Thanks again old friend! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.3.119.127 (talk) 18:45, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Wendy's

Say friend, have you ever been to the fast food establishment by the name of Wendy's? If so, have you noticed that their chili is a little watered down? I noticed that, so I filled out a comment card. They then sent me some free coupons. I was at a different Wendy's one day, and I noticed the same about their chili. I filled out a comment card there, but never received and coupons from them. I went back to that Wendy's and asked them why I never got any coupons from them, since I filled out the comment card. They told me that even though they value my opinion and will take it into consideration, they do not give out coupons for filling out comment cards. I told them that I had gone to a different Wendy's and they did give me coupons. This Wendy's told me they did not do that. I told them that they should. You know, I don't mean to start rumors, but I hear Wendy's takes all of the meat from the burgers that didn't sell one day, and uses them in the chili the next day. Thought I'd let you know old friend. Mike —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.3.119.127 (talk) 19:08, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

I have never eaten in a Wendys as I live in the UK but i can believe the story about the burger and chili :P ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 16:12, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Questions regarding first vandalism course

 • Is there a script that provides a popup for the warning templates?
Found the answer after more study of twinkle --Sultec (talk) 17:44, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
 • Does one sign after a warning template?

How to revert This part of the lesson is designed for use with Firefox, Safari, Opera, Camino, and other similar browsers. If you use Internet Explorer, please let Addshore know. Do not attempt to install the script mentioned on this page if you use Internet Explorer.

At work, I use Internet Explorer but otherwise I use Firefox. Does the warning above mean something bad happens if the script is installed and I use IE ? Sultec (talk) 17:48, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

For popup warning templates and stuff like that I think you might like to use popups. If you cant it anywhere please ask and ill point you.
No it doesn't mean that something bad happens it just means that the script will not work :). The reason they are divided is so someone that only uses IE doesn't go and install the scripts and wonder why they are not work :). You can try going through each of the sections as you use both browsers but they are very similar.
I hope I have answered all of your questions and sorry for the late reply. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 18:03, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Sultec: Adoptee Assignments

Assignment 1 on Copyright on a free Wiki

What is the Wikipedia slogan?
"The Free Encyclopedia".
What license is the content on Wikipedia released under?
GNU Free Documentation License
If a user was to infringe copyright what could happen to their account on Wikipedia?
Could get blocked.

--Sultec (talk) 00:29, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Well done you have scored 100% :). Keep up the good work and tell me if you get stuck. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 18:35, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Assignment 2 on Permissions

1. What is a permission?

Permissions are abilities granted in increasing scale to editors to make changes to Wikipedia.

2. What pages are un-registered users able to edit?

They can edit pages that are not protected or semi-protected.

3. What is an auto confirmed account?

An account that has been confirmed by an email link.
Incorrect. For security reasons, an account must be at least four days old and have made at least 10 edits to make use of the privileges granted to registered users. Registered users or users that have been "autoconfirmed" have normal access levels to the site. They can edit any page that is not fully protected, they can move and create pages, and upload files.·Add§hore· Talk/Cont

4. What permissions do registered accounts have?

Full editing privileges on all except protected pages, also they can move, create pages, and upload files.

5. Who can grant rollback?

Administrators and above can grant rollback.

6. What privileges do acccountcreators have and why?

They can create more than 6 accounts in 24 hours. This is to help users but to keep trolls in check

7. Who can grant accountcreator and how do you request it?

Sysops and above can and it is granted after a request on a sysop's talk page after you have done a good account creation.

8. What does rollback enable you to do?

It allows someone with rollback rights to undo/revert multiple edits by the same user at the same time

9. What should you not use rollback for?

You shouldn't use it in content disputes and to vilolate the 3 revert rule
Correct but overall rollback should ONLY be used for reverting vandalism.·Add§hore· Talk/Cont

10. What are administrators able to do?

Administrators can delete, restore, protect, unprotect pages, lock revisions.

They have rollbacker, accountcreator, block priveleges. They can grant "rollbacker" "accountcreator" and "ipexempt" permissions They can view unwatchedpages, view deleted contributions and make changes to the MediaWiki interface.

11. How do you request adminship?

An editor needs follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/nominate.

12. What are bureaucrats main duties?

Bureaucrats can change a user's permissions and alter a bot's access levels as well as rename accounts.

13. What technical abilities do stewards have?

They can change access levels on anyone anywhere in the wikiverse.
14. What does checkuser enable a user to check?

This tool lets one check for sockpuppets by checking the IP address.

15. What is oversight?

Oversight lets a user hide revisions.

16. What type of a user must you be to be granted oversight?

A user should have a capacity for strong legal thinking.
Oversight is only normal given to members or ex members of ARBCOM ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 16:18, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

--Sultec (talk) 02:20, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

You did quite well. If you have any questions to ask about my marks please ask. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 16:18, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Assignment 3 Vandalism 1.1

1. What is vandalism?

Something that isn't at all helpful to the article.

2. What are obvious indicators of a vandalism edit while watching recent changes?

1.large number of characters removed, 2. section blanked, or replaced with curse words or obvious nonsense 3. anonymous editor - maybe not obvious indicator but a good flag to check

3. How do you revert vandalism?

Use the undo or revert buttons or those in twinkle after looking at the diff.

4. What warning template would you use if a user removed or blanked all the content from a page? (Use <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Warn#Multi-level_templates>this page for help.)

or successive levels of the same

5. What warning template would you use if a user add the words "i really hate wikipedia!" to an article?

First one of these I have had :) Good work ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont

6. How do you add an article to your watchlist?

click on the watch tab on the top or check the box in the editing page or set preferences to watch pages you edited.

7. If you misuse such tools as WP:TW or WP:VPRF what could happen?

You could get blocked.
You have got 100% in this section. Congratulations ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 17:45, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

After you have answered these questions go through recent changes and list 3 edits that you would class as vandalism in the format below and add them to my talk page:

* Diff 1: [3] Adding defamatory material
* Diff 2: [4] Several paragraphs removed without any explanation on the discussion page
* Diff 3: [5] replaced large amount of data with one unrelated line

Question

A few times lately, I have been reverting IPs who blank their talk pages, in order to remove evidence of warning messages. Am I allowed to do this? I would suspect so, as it helps people keep track of what people get up to on Wikipedia. But still, I just wanted to double-check, please enlighten me, cheers. Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 17:48, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

I appreciate you may be very busy in real life, but have you overlooked this little section or something? Regards, Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 18:13, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Addshore asked me to reply as he's unable to access the site at the moment. Policy does not prohibit users, including both registered and anonymous users, from removing comments from their own talk pages. The removal of a warning is taken as evidence that the warning has been read by the user. Deleted warnings can still be found in the page history. Repeatedly restoring warnings does nothing but antagonize users, and can encourage further disruption; removal of template warnings is rarely an urgent or important matter, and it is often best to simply let the matter rest if other disruption stops. I hope that answered your question, regards —— RyanLupin(talk) 17:03, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

As part of my assignment on cleanup I checked the links at NORAD_Tracks_Santa.

 1. Could you check my work and see if I put the deadlinks in correctly.
 2. I also redid some citations using Webcite. Is that done correctly?
 3. The Qwest link could have been more exact. I put a comment in the code to that effect. (because by that time, I was getting rather fried), was that correct?

--Sultec (talk) 23:15, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Consequence System

No. You have pushed me too far this time Mr. I was being constructive. I was saying that the Escalade competes with the GL320, QX56, etc. And I was also talking about how fuel economy is slightly better than its competitors, and also that the acceleration time of the Escalade is very impressive for a full-size luxury SUV. I'm going to give you this Warning slip. If I have to come over and talk to you one more time about your discourtesy, I will issue a detention slip, where I will ban you from wikipedia for 7 days. After that, you may not say anything about my edits, which are all constructive and useful. If you have any questions, leave me a POLITE, MATURE message on my profile.

WARNING SLIP This was given to "Addshore" on "10/15/08". The reason it was given is "assuming I have been useless to wikipedia, making inappropriate edits". "Addshore" now has a huge warning. The next slip is a detention slip, and will involve some privileges to be taken away. -APPROVED- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.126.248.184 (talk) 23:35, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

The reason I reverted you was for the simple reason that in the edit you changed the name from "Escalade" to "Escalad". And in this edit this was the only change. This is my reason and my judgment told me to revert. I see no wrong doing in what I have done. Also I suggest you read up on user warning templates. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 00:09, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up on the Huggle version, however I did manage to get it working (strangely, as I did nothing differently and it refused to work for at least a week straight). I'm enjoying it quite a lot! Thanks anyway, though :) --RazorICE 12:32, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

I think what you did was went back to 0.7.* and then 0.8.1 again. For some reason this fixed the problem. This worked for other people also :) Glad to hear it is working well :) ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 20:27, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey, Addshore. This version is working great. No problems so far. Thanks for working on it! لennavecia 14:09, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Adopt Request

Hi Addshore, I'm EntertainU and I would like to be adopted. I have been on wikipedia since June, and so far I love it. I have had two users tell me I should be adopted. I was in the adoptees area and found you to be the best choice. I have some questions about wikipedia that I would love to know. If you adopt me, I plan to be finished in about a month or two. We can still keep in touch too. I would love to have you as my adopter. Thank You! entertainU (talk) 22:02, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. I would be willing to accept you :). I do already have 3 other users under me but i'm sure I can manage one more :). Just make sure you have read my adoption subpage and then please confirm that you want to be adopted by me and I will make the relevant sub pages and then you can get started :) ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 22:41, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I am comfirming my adoption. But I have a few questions: How long will this take? Do you absolutely have to "graduate"? If I feel I know too much or simply want to stop for some odd reason, can I do that? Right now I have the skills of an average editor here. I can make infoboxes, I know how to do wikimarkup, sign my posts with edit summaries, make userboxes, external and internal links and revert vandalism. I still have alot of questions though which I'm 100% positive you can answer. Please comfirm my adoption and answer my questions. Thankyou! : ) entertainU (talk) 23:13, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Well you can ask me questions at any time :). The lessons should not take you long and there are only a few questions after each. Only 6 lessons in total including the two optional ones. They will hopefully teach you something. The process is just Lesson and questions for them and then I will set you some target and then you have a final test :). The test will be individual to you and ill just make some things up that you might not know and will need to find out. You can stop the process at anytime :). I hope this answers all of your questions. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 00:16, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Where do I get or make a userbox that says "this user is adopted by Addshore?" I would like one. entertainU (talk) 00:48, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

I think you are looking for the Template:Adoptee page :) ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 15:37, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Wikimarkup 101 Test for EntertainU

Although I know most of it, there was some I didn't know. If you could, please tell me If I passed this section or not on my talk page. Otherwise, I'll take it again. Here is the Link: User:EntertainU/addshore_adopting_lesson_wikimarkup_101

Yep looks good :). Maybe try to add some pictures? ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 16:41, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Question

I have a question that was not in wikimarkup 101. I see alot of people when they sign their posts have like, really cool sinatures. I've seen some with a lot of colors, cool fonts, and what not. How do you do this? i-am-entertainU (talk) 00:02, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. Firstly I will say that I have created your adoption subpage here. Please load the page a fill in your interests at the top :). This page will be used to keep track of your adoption and I will update it with marks for tests and courses e.t.c.
In answer to your question, if you go to the links in the top right and click on preferences in the user profile tab you should see a text box labeled "Signature:" In that texr box you can add the raw signature. If you are using wiki code remember to tick the "Raw Signature" box. For example my signiture "·Add§hore· Talk/Cont" 's code is

<font color="blue">·Add§hore· T<small>alk</small>/C<small>ont</small></font>

I hope this helps. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 18:41, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Addshore! Thanks for the how-to on the signature. I went to my adoption subpage you created, and found I only passed the Wikimarkup test. But, in a few sections above this one, called Vandalism 1.1 test for EntertainU, is my test. Did I pass? If I did, let me know and put in on the subpage for my adoption. If I didn't, well... still let me know, and I'll try again. (Hopefully not.) Thank You and happy editing! --i-am-entertainU (talk) 23:30, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism Test 1.1 for EntertainU

the questions are normal text the answers are bolded i am on the counter vandalism unit and recent chnges patrol so i know at least some thing about reverting and vandalism, although the lesson taught me alot more ALOT

 • What is vandalism? an unconstructive edit, adding uneccesary "items" to the wiki
 • What are obvious indicators of a vandalism edit while watching recent changes? if the number of bytes is alot or in red something like that, or an IP made the edit, or new user
 • How do you revert vandalism? you can use special tools that wikipedia offers, or do it the old school way, manually by going to history and going to the last reversion and save
 • What warning template would you use if a user removed or blanked all the content from a page? level one, or if it's been constant go up as needed, but if it was a mistake or their first time, use level one
 • What warning template would you use if a user add the words "i really hate wikipedia!" to an article? depends how many times they did that say if they did it continually, they deserve a three. but you always have to act in good faith.
 • How do you add an article to your watchlist? click watch up in the tabs in the top
 • If you misuse such tools as WP:TW or WP:VPRF what could happen? you could get blocked, and that would suck... really bad

here is my three vandalism samples http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:EntertainU/vandalism_1.1_test

See marks in the section below. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 08:39, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't get it...

You said that you would try and mark it later in my section No Title. I don't know if I passed the vandalism test or not. Here it is again:

 • If you misuse such tools as WP:TW or WP:VPRF what could happen? you could get blocked, and that would suck... really bad

Thanks! --entertainU

Hi there and sorry for the delay. For the warning questions (4 and 5) try to use (this page for help.) There are not only different levels of warning but also different types of warning such as "spam" and "blanking". Try to look at that link again and see if you can re answer those questions. Also when reverting vandalism going to the last good diff and pressing save can be used but otherwise the UNDO and REVERT functions should be used :). I will update your adoption page now. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 08:39, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Can someone do something about this?

There's no point for this page or any of its articles'.

Thank-You. --i-am-entertainU (talk) 02:01, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey again :). If you now check the history page here someone has changed the page to a redirect to Materum, Nigeria. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 08:42, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Positive Huggle feedback

Hi! Thanks for dropping me a note on my talk page. I downloaded the latest version of Huggle and tried it out tonight. It loaded up and ran just fine, unlike the previous version where I couldn't get past the login dialog. There was some minor strangeness with it not showing me the diff when someone beat me to a reversion; but that may have been a bandwidth issue on my end because things seemed to clear up on that point later. Thanks again for letting me know the update was available! —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 05:34, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

No problem and thanks for letting me know the update worked :) ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 15:35, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey there. Thanks for dropping by my user talk. I still have yet to download it, but hopefully it works. I didn't seem to have any problems after I unified my login, but I'll try 8.2 anyways. Maybe it won't be as slow as 0.8.1 was on my home computer. Vandalism destroyer (talk) 15:24, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Thnaks for letting me know. And yes I think that this version may have just sped up a bit also :) ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 08:40, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it is a little faster than 0.8.1, but not as fast as 0.7.12 is on my computer. So I'll still continue using 0.7.12 on my computer until I can get a chance to upgrade it. I will use 0.8.2 on my laptop though, since it is faster. VandalismDestroyer | Talk to me 15:32, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Well a little at a time could take it a long way :). Thanks for the report! ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 14:10, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Adoption of Banaticus

Hey, my midterms were this past week. Now that they're over, I'll be coasting on easy street for the next week or so. Good to see you again. :) Banaticus (talk) 23:18, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about that, mea culpa and all that. *Banaticus bows his head in shame as he apologizes for the state of neglect that he's allowed the adoption to enter.* Also, sorry, I didn't mean that "hey" in my last post here to sound like "Hey, WTF, mate?" I mean it as "Hey, how's it going, I'm back." I was checking back to see how you'd responded and when I reread my initial comment it struck me as sounding rather brash. Banaticus (talk) 07:11, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
No problem. It didn't like "Hey, WTF, mate?" to me :) ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:45, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

User Permissions Test for EntertainU

The answers are bolded, and questions in normal text. Hope I passed! i-am-entertainU (talk) 16:03, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

 • What is a permission? More abilities than other users here on the wiki
 • What pages are un-registered users able to edit? The ones that aren’t protected or semi- protected
 • What is an auto confirmed account? Having normal access to wikipedia
 • What permissions do registered accounts have? You can edit any page that is not all the way protected, moving and creating pages, and uploading pictures and such
 • Who can grant rollback? admins & sysops
 • What privileges do acccountcreators have and why? To create accounts that are not profane names, to create an account for someone who doen’t want to.
 • Who can grant accountcreator and how do you request it? Sysop’s talkpage
 • What does rollback enable you to do? Reverting multiple edits of vandalism at a time
 • What should you not use rollback for? Content disputes and such
 • What are administrators able to do? access to the rollbacker and accountcreator permission and grant rollbacker accountcreator to other users
 • How do you request adminship? On the RfA
 • What are bureaucrats main duties? All the tech “nuts and bolts” stuff of wikipedia

thankyou i-am-entertainU (talk) 16:03, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Ok. It would be nice if you could elaborate on question 3 a bit as the course does include more than just what you have said. Also a quick note, an admin is a sysop, they are just different names. Admins can also block, protect e.t.c (please re read the course). The last answer is also not correct. Please re read the course and try to answer these again. Thanks. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 14:09, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Template, substitution, ani

Thanks. :) I'm particularly prone to forgetting to substitute templates I don't usually use. Just not intuitive for me, I'm afraid. I see your bot has fixed the two I placed; I appreciate the clean-up. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:28, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Np and I'm just trying to raise awareness a bit :) Less bot edits that way :). ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 14:04, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

I am curious, on the presumption that this is running under windows, what have you used to skin it like that? Windowblinds? neuro(talk) 14:01, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Yep i'm running under windows and i'm running windows blinds. The skin is called "Eminence" by zero. From my time searching through the collections it is clearly the best :). ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 14:06, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

template substitution

 • dammit, i think that might be one of, if not the only times, i've forgotten that. if you notice, i even subst'd the one below it and missed that one out! thanks for the reminder, tho. tomasz. 14:56, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
NO problem then :P. I'm just going through about 50 of the templates that my bot finds each time and sending them a message. I would like to automate the message but that s quite complicated. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:42, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
substitute the template, means what???? --Redtigerxyz (talk) 16:54, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Please take a look at Wikipedia:SUB ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:42, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Just figured it out myself. It means instead of adding a welcome tag - use a tag. This injects the words permanently. Great idea - new to me too.
Skål - Williamborg (Bill) 00:18, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Re:Welcome

Hi! Thanks a lot for welcoming me :) I have already read Wikipedia:How to edit a page and the others linked on Help:Contents when editing Warsaw Uprising, but I am willing to read the whole rest you've linked, of course. It's great to be a Wikipedian, but there are so many difficult things I'll need to learn... I hope I'll manage to know all the Wiki stuff, as for now I have only copied templates and other things from other articles... Anyway, thanks and have a good day ;) --Teodor Jan Ranicki (talk) 15:15, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Good to see your taking a big interest and hopefully a big part in wikipedia :). If you ever need any help in the future feel free to drop by my talk page and ask me anything. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:44, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

I've been away for a while, so it's quite possible I forgot to substitute a template like you said. Do you remember what template it was? - Mgm|(talk) 18:46, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

The page history that I found your non substed template on is this one. The template you did not subst is blocked. Its acctually quite amazing how many times this template gets misssed. I hope this helps. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:52, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

If you could explain me which template are you speaking of, it'd be of help. Thanks. --Attilios (talk) 18:51, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

For you one of the examples that I can find is here The template that you should have substed but did not is blatantvandal. I hope this explains more. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:51, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Is this really important? There's usually a bot running around which does the substitution of welcome automatically. I welcome new users fairly often and it just seems like more typing, and brand new user pages aren't going to have many views anyway. -- Kendrick7talk 18:52, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes that is usually a bot running around substing and that bot (well one of them) is mine. Its amazing how many edits the bot has to make and to be fair it isn't that much work to add {{subst: on to the beginning of a template and stop the bots from editing. Eventually I hope the bot to be able to notify people its self but that will take some work so for now I am just running around telling a random few that it picks up. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:55, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
How about not templating the regulars, ok? And next time do include the alleged template that we did not substitute, would you please? It would keep us from scratching our heads. 75.26.18.154 (talk) 19:11, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
According to your talk page I have not notified you. What is your actual user name? ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:40, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Hi Addshore,
Great stuff, this substitution. I've been here since `05 and I'd not encountered this before, even though its been around since `05 as well. Perhaps that's because I spend more time editing than patrolling and only occasionally feel the need to slap a welcome tag on - in the future I'll certainly use a instead so that it adds permanent text on the page. Thanks for pointing it out!
From your comment page it appears I'm not the only one who had to look further to figure out what you were telling me. I only add welcomes when a new editor edits one of my watch list pages - so I'm an occasional user of that template. As a courtesy for those of us who only visit Wikipolicy space to work an issue, I'd suggest you add the link to information on what substitution is and how to do it next time, so folks who are as ignorant of this feature as I was can figure it out. Might also help to direct us to the welcoming committee so we can read up on the current protocol.
Thanks again for teaching me something new. May all your editing be constructive & productive. Skål - Williamborg (Bill) 00:14, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
No problem and Yes I will change the message slightly for next time :) Thanks for the tips and glad to see I helped :) ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:40, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up - since the use of welcome template(s) seem to be varied, no-one's actually mentioned having to subst it. I'll try and remember :-) CultureDrone (talk) 16:21, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
