G41[edit]

I respectfully request permission to create a disambiguation page for "G41" and rename the G41 rifle page "Gewehr 41". There is an Imperial German torpedo boat SMS G41 and a Royal Navy destroyer HMS Panther (G41) which both have G41 in their names, in addition to the HK G41 rifle discussed previously. I will post this same message on the Talk pages of each of the WikiUsers listed on this discussion page. Pen of bushido 13:56, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Kilt articles merge proposal[edit]

I have posted a counter-proposal in re your proposal to merge Irish kilt / Welsh kilt into the main kilt article. Essentially, my counter-proposal is to take the content (slightly re-worked) of the current kilt article and create a Scottish kilt article out of it. There is an article entitled kilt variants which could then (after some re-working) become the new main kilt article and which would discuss all of the various types of kilts (including the modern or contemporary kilt and the school uniform skirt, the latter of which is referred to by many as a kilt, though some would say that term is a misnomer in that instance).

This plan would leave the articles on the individual types of kilts in place (some in need of expansion).

My main concern is not with the particular organization of the various kilt articles, but that the discussion and information on the Scottish kilt not be compromised.

Please let me know on my talk page (or on the kilt article talk page how you view this counter-proposal.

Please use edit summaries[edit]

Hello. Please be courteous to other editors and use edit summaries when updating articles. The Mathbot tool shows your usage of edit summaries to be very low:

Edit summary usage for Aldis90: 49% for major edits and 3% for minor edits. Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.

Using edit summaries helps other editors quickly understand your edits, which is especially useful when you make changes to articles that are on others' watchlists. Thanks and happy editing! --Kralizec! (talk) 14:32, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks very much for your kind assistance with the pictures today. Much appreciated.

US naval jack[edit]

Noticed that you substitured the US naval jack for the US ensign on HMS Battler (D18). Are you aware of the discussions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ships/Archive05, sub-head "Always use ensigns?"? My interpretation is that ensigns are preferred, unless consensus is reached for use of the jack. Also, have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships, where there's a table of maritime flags. You can specify a US flag and a date and it will generate the historically correct flag. Hope this helps. Folks at 137 10:41, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Russian Naval Aviation[edit]

A tag has been placed on Russian Naval Aviation, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. 172.137.12.148 15:03, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi! I recreated the Russian Naval Aviation article few days ago. I noticed that you also tried to create it last month. So, if you are still interested to contribute, please feel free. Best regards, --Eurocopter tigre 20:22, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Your recent edits[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button Button sig2.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot 22:20, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Army Groups of the National Revolutionary Army[edit]

Hello. Could you explain why you moved this article to Group Armies of the National Revolutionary Army, without any sort of discussion? (And also, "Army Group" to "Group Army" within the article.) You will find that "Army Group" is the translation used for 「集團軍」 within English publications by the NRA/ROCA and their affiliates. --Миборовский (talk) 00:11, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Who are these knowledgeable folks? I have a bunch of books and publications disagreeing with them. And even if the PLA uses "Group Army", the NRA/ROCA AFAIK do not. Миборовский (talk) 04:31, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, sources have to be reliable and verifiable, which forum postings are not. Not that I don't trust them, but I'd still trust my books more than forums. Миборовский (talk) 19:17, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Anything not from the CPC (and not from a website)? I refer you to 2 sources I have on hand at the moment: Hsu & Chang's History of the Sino Japanese War (1937-1945), which consistently uses "Army Group" (check the index) and Ho Ying-chin's Who Actually Fought the Sino-Japanese War 1937-45 ?, which refers to among other things "18th Army Group" and "Commander, Army Group". Миборовский (talk) 23:58, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Besides Hsu & Chang's book, there is a published book that is also on line in Chinese that covers the War from 1931 on.

This is a more recent mainland text, definately covers the pre 7/1937 parts of the conflict better than Hsu. Use of the Term "Army Group" in English may be different terms in Chinese simple characters which is 军团 Army Group. 集團軍 seems to be the traditional characters for Army Group. I think both should be put in the article to clear up the confusion. Asiaticus (talk) 09:35, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

About 2 weeks ago you said you'd look into some old sources regarding the translation for 集團軍, have you turned anything up? --Миборовский (talk) 05:51, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Da Yuan Shuai[edit]

Wikipedia's article on Grand Marshal implies that the Republic of China had one or two ranks like Grand Marshal. Wikipedia's article on the Military of the Republic of China makes no reference to those ranks. Are they outdated? If so, as of when? I hoped you might know, since you recently made edits relating to that.

Also, the Grand Marshal article used to list Grand Marshal equivalent ranks for Imperial China, Communist China, and the Republic of China. But on 6 December 2007 someone deleted the links for Imperial China and Communist China, leaving just the Republic of China. Proposed deletion of Poseidon class Supercarrier[edit]

Information.svg Please remember to mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Shenyang J-11, as minor if (and only if) they genuinely are minor edits (see Help:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one is considered poor etiquette. The rule of thumb is that only an edit that consists solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearranging of text without modifying content should be flagged as a 'minor edit.' Thank you. If you'd simply left us a note in the edit summary this wouldn't be necessary. Springfield Model 1865[edit]

Hi. You seem to be the most active/consistent contributer to Springfield Model 1865. I noticed a potential inconsistency between the article's 3rd and 6th paragraphs in discussing the purpose of the conversion process being for the model 1863 and 1861 muskets, respectively. Since the 1863 is basically a variant of the 1861, would it be proper to reference the 1861 in both paragraphs, or am I missing something? Cheers! Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 02:32, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

September 2010[edit]

Information.svg Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When you make a change to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to People's Liberation Army. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit. It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you.
You seem to need regular reminders about this. This is causing you & the rest of us grief. Therefore I urge you, to avoid accidentally leaving edit summaries blank, to select "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" on the Editing tab of your user preferences. One such is wp:ES#Always provide an edit summary. Please adhere to it, or state why the consensus doesn't apply in your case. Trafford09 (talk) 07:06, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Why are you special? wp:ES#Always provide an edit summary[edit]

Don't we all just love Wikipedia? It gives us many free rights:

  • the right to open our own account
  • the right to edit articles
  • the right for other people to come and help us, when we put {{help}} here
  • the right to look up anything on a huge encyclopedia

And what does Wikipedia ask, in return for all this? Well, not very much at all:

This is not much to ask, and it is not difficult.
But you seem to find it not just difficult, but impossible?
Maybe you are a Special Person? Please could you tell us why you are so Special?

... or perhaps you would consider setting a good example, and following the rules, like the rest of us ... Trafford09 (talk) 07:02, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

TOTD[edit]

Tip Of The Day
Please summarize your work using the "Edit summary box".

If you make anything other than a minor edit to an article, it helps others if you fill in the edit summary. Edit summaries are visible in the page history, watchlists, and on Recent changes, so they help others users keep track of what's happening to a page. If you use section editing, the summary box is filled in with the section heading by default (in gray text), which you can follow with more detail. You also can put links to articles in the edit summary. Just put double brackets around [[the article title]] like you would normally. The summary is limited to 200 characters, so many people use common abbreviations, such as sp for correcting spelling mistakes.

Speedy deletion nomination of SANY Group Company Ltd.[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on SANY Group Company Ltd. requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Eeekster (talk) 01:52, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Information.svg Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with SANY Group Company Ltd.. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 01:58, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Nuvola apps important.svg Please stop removing speedy deletion notices from pages that you have created yourself, as you did with SANY Group Company Ltd.. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Eeekster (talk) 02:13, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

November 2010[edit]

Information.svg Thank you for your contributions. Please remember to mark your edits, such as your recent edits to List of Korean flags, as "minor" only if they truly are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. Trafford09 (talk) 19:47, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Ratios[edit]

If you disagree about the T/W ratio then you should take it up on the talks page first. The ratio is calculated on all aircraft pages as the sourced weight divided by the sourced thrust. The J-11's weight is higher than the Su-27SK and since there is no increase in thrust its T/W is lower than the on the Su-27SK. If you wish to refute this then you argue on the talks page, not by starting an edit war -Nem1yan (talk) 13:04, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Edit summaries[edit]

Information.svg Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. This edit is by no means a 'minor' edit. Please state why you think consensus on wp:ES#Always provide an edit summary doesn't apply in your Special case? Minor edits[edit]

May I please remind you of the Wikipedia definition of a minor edit. A number of your recent edits don't meet that definition, but you have still marked them as minor. - David Biddulph (talk) 09:29, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

FV4401 Contentious and Category:Airborne fighting vehicles[edit]

Is there a {{main}} article for this cat? There's a redlink on the Contentious article for air-portable that ought to be pointing to the same place. Should be an interesting article, if anyone has the time to go for it. Andy Dingley (talk) 18:40, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

December 2013[edit]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to House of Yi may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 06:13, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
