re:E. gyii.[edit]

Hi Alifazal. How come you decided to ask that this article be deleted? It sounds interesting and useful. Can it not be kept, and improved later or, or something? Anyway, I fixed the link and changed the article title, and I think it should be kept. And thank you for creating it. Herostratus 18:44, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I see, there is already another article about the snake. Well, good try anyway. Herostratus 19:12, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Herostratus! I rechecked the page and it seems you have redirected the page to the already existing page. My error was that i kept a fullstop at the end of the title. alifazal 17:52, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Lepidoptera#Charaxes khasianus. Thanks! Rocket000 (talk) 22:24, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

That was about an article you created called Kihansi Charaxes and that article was moved and is now deleted. In case you need it to develop a well referenced version please let me know. We did not find the species name or the description paper and in the meantime someone had moved it to a different and incorrect taxon page (as titled above). Kenya Airways[edit]

Hi. Why did you remove Precision Air as a subsidiary from the infobox? The percentage held by KQ decreased according to your recent edits, but the company is still a KQ subsidiary.--Jetstreamer Talk 17:42, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi. It is not a subsidiary. See this [[1]] "KQ said that it could not comment on the deal since Precision Air is an independent company despite its strategic stake in the listed Tanzanian carrier." It needs to be more than 50% to be a subsidiary. Ali Fazal (talk) 17:45, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
You're right.--Jetstreamer Talk 23:51, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Actually, Amina Mohamed was the Chairman/Chairperson of both the IOM and the WTO's General Council (Chair=Chairman=Chairperson; c.f. [2]). Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 14:49, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

He there. Yes, I do not deny that. I have included those board positions in the infobox under the section "Positions". Thanks for improving this article's contents. Ali Fazal (talk) 14:55, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
Her time as Chairperson with those orgs should probably be given their own office parameters since, aside from her time with UNEP as Deputy Executive Director, that is what she is mainly known for internationally. Middayexpress (talk) 15:40, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
Hi. I understand these Board positions were not full time. Both the WTO and IOM were led by Directors General. Also, if you see her profile, she was the Permanent Representative of Kenya to th UN from 2000-2006; whilst at the same time she led these two international organisations. Yemenia flights at Dar Es Salaam[edit]

Per Yemenia's route map, flights between Sana'a and Dar Es Salaam is nonstop (may stop in Naroibi but the airline doesn't have fifth freedom rights between NBO and DAR). I wasn't able to book that segment at Yemenia's website. (talk) 01:42, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Visual Editor[edit]

Hey Alifazal

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:16, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Layout of pages[edit]

I planned myself for some time now to remodel layout of lists of Tanzanian officeholders, but I didn't have enough time for that until today. I hope you like it. Cheers! --Sundostund (talk) 14:44, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for editing the list. However, I have the following observations:
  • the title of the article refers to Tanzania; and therefore including the President of United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar may not be essentially necessary.
  • the start and end term dates for President Nyerere ought to be one i.e. 1964 and 1985; and he didn't actually take office in 1977 as indicated by you as the year was between the two elections of 1975 and 1980
  • Repitition of the translated name of the part may as well be unnecessary and would recommend using its acronyms instead.

I thank you once again for updating the list. Ali Fazal (talk) 15:03, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Well, as you may know, Tanzania was officially called the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar between April and November 1964, after the unification with Zanzibar and before officially changing the name to Tanzania. Next, TANU ceased to exist and CCM was formed in 1977. I think we should include the precise date about when that happened. I'd also prefer to use the translated name of the party instead of just acronyms. Please, don't revert it again. Cheers! --Sundostund (talk) 15:16, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi, how are you? I added a picture to the article Fatimah, but there is a debate about it. Can you add your comments to the talk-page? Thanks (you can delete this message after you read it)- Zabranos (talk) 02:26, 21 September 2013 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Death and state funeral of Nelson Mandela[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Death and state funeral of Nelson Mandela. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Nelson Mandela#Death. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Nelson Mandela#Death – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 01:07, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Funeral programme cover image[edit]

Hi Ali Fazal. I have uploaded File:Mandela Funeral Programme.jpg with a free government licence to Wikimedia Commons as there is a good chance the image will be deleted otherwise. HelenOnline 09:20, 15 December 2013 (UTC)

FYI I removed the Now Commons tag in case the Commons one gets deleted first for some reason (you never know). HelenOnline 09:35, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Helen for adding the appropriate license. Ali Fazal (talk) 14:53, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
No problem. I had to create the license template for it (there was one on Commons, but not here for some reason). HelenOnline 14:56, 15 December 2013 (UTC)

Eton of Tanzania[edit]

Hi, as I have already nominated one of your redirects for discussion, I wont list this one at the same time. Would you explain the term 'Eton of Tanzania'? Is that what they are called in reliable sources? A google search for google:"Eton of Tanzania" doesnt provide any useful results. John Vandenberg (chat) 06:34, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi Alifazal. Outside of parts of the Somaliland region, the Hargeisa monument is controversial, as it portrays in heroic terms rebels and the Somali authorities as villains. It's therefore not a neutral image for the page. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 18:17, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

Malawian Airlines[edit]

I wanted to let you know that I restored the destinations table to the format it had prior to your edits, as it was in one of the layouts that was approved by consensus. It took me some time to put the table in this new format, so please familiarise yourself with it. Needless to say, the table can be expanded, but sources should be provided for each new entry. Please also note the following:

  1. This edit removed a line that was in agreement with WP:ASOF
  2. this other one removed a valid reference from the lead; the full name of the carrier was stated nowhere else in the article
  3. this added unsourced content.

You may want to take a look at WP:BURDEN regarding the last two items last item. I've marked all the unsourced claims present in the article. Finally, you did not use an edit summary for each of your edits; please do so in the future. You may reply here, I'll be watching. Thanks.--Jetstreamer Talk 14:11, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Thank you Jetstreamer. I have added the reference. Request you to review this article: Jambojet. Ali Fazal (talk) 22:05, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
I'll take a look at it ASAP.--Jetstreamer Talk 22:44, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
Regarding Jambojet, the content included in the ″History″ section should fit better in the ″Destinations″ one, IMHO. Furthermore, the table should be put in one of the formats I linked to above. I will not modify this article, though, I'll just do some archiving of references if you don't mind.--Jetstreamer Talk 00:06, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Newark By-election[edit]

I have reversed your edit to the Newark by-election, 2014 article because it is not standard practice to have any candidates or indeed photos in the infobox of an ongoing by-election article. There have been 17 By-elections for this Parliament and for every single one of them candidates were not added to the infobox until the results had been announced. I see no reason for this practice to change. Thank you for your edit, I am sure the photograph will come in useful once the by-by-election results are in. In the meantime, do you do article requests in Swahili for aviation-related articles? Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 and Mohamed Amin (who died on ET961) do not yet have articles in Swahili.

Surely you are aware, WTM, that a project guideline cannot overrule a pillar policy of WP. (talk) 07:46, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
I work with airline destinations and the actual practice is to not add citations to every single destination which is why I decided things in the way I did. I will bring it up on the WikiProject discussion page but you can make it a Wikipedia:Requests for comment if you don't agree with what the project decides. WhisperToMe (talk) 08:10, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
Unfortunately, you have it backwards. If the project wants an exception to the WP sourcing pillar, then it must ask the community for it. The project members cannot make that decision by themselves. Projects do not ever make policy. (talk) 08:21, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
If you want you can go ahead and file a Wikipedia:Requests for comment on this issue. I can help you with it. You can also use Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy). WhisperToMe (talk) 08:53, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: SatCom Networks Africa Limited[edit]

Hello Alifazal. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of SatCom Networks Africa Limited, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not unambiguous advertising (can be cleaned without a fundamental rewrite). Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 21:20, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Notice of Edit warring noticeboard discussion[edit]

Information icon Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. Thank you. (talk) 04:54, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

October 2014[edit]

Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of one week for edit warring and violating the three-revert rule, as you did at Somaliland. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}. However, you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.  Bbb23 (talk) 17:48, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Request reason:

I'd like to say that I was aware of the Three-revert rule; but I had a different interpretation of it. I'd like to defend my actions as follows: * The rule clearly defines what a 'revert' is i.e. 'undoing other editors' actions'. I made four edits on 19 October viz. my addition, 1st revert, 2nd revert and addition without reverting. If, for the sake of argument, my fourth edit is considered as a revert; I believe that it should've then been treated as the third. * My reason for these edits was to counter the systemic bias that is being perpetrated by a number of editors who want to ensure that articles related to Somaliland "conform" to a POV acceptable to Somalia. *Request and observation: I'd like to request that an admin other than User:Bbb23 consider my appeal. I have personally lost faith in his/her judgement as I believe this admin has a penchant for making hasty decisions as evidenced by his previous action on an SPI that I had requested using a sock. Whilst I'm not claiming ignorance as an excuse; I have since regretted that action of mine but it was out of frustration. I never used that account to canvass any discussion on the article's talkpage nor indeed edit any single article. I only used it to initiate an SPI agaisnt the very user who reported me and Bbb23 made a hasty decision and i had to challenge him on his assertion. This time too, he didn't cease to surprise, and made his decision within four minutes of the final edit done by AcidSnow. I wasn't given the opportunity to defend myself according to my interpretation of the rule i.e. I hadn't made four reverts. From an ethical standpoint, I believe there was a 'threat of familiarity' given the fact that I, the editor who reported me and Bbb23 were all involved in that above mentioned SPI case. In hindsight, I believe he should've left it to another admin to adjudicate on the matter; but given the voluminous administrative tasks that an admin has to do; he may have forgotten indeed. I therefore submit my appeal. Thank you for your time. Ali Fazal (talk) 22:51, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Your interpretation does not appear to be correct. You reverted in material related to the memorial four times in a row, continuing a previous edit war on October 7th and making the first edit a revert. "Counter[ing] the systemic bias" is not a defense, it's an editorial consideration and not an excuse to edit disruptively. I'm sorry that you acted poorly previously, but administrators are not prohibited from action because they've been exposed to your past problematic behavior, nor does taking administrative action suddenly make him "involved". You may want to read that link more carefully. Kuru (talk) 23:43, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first and then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired.

Zambian presidential election[edit]

Hi Ali. Where did you get the 90 days from? Looking at the constitution, article 104 states: "a presidential election shall be held within sixty days after the occurrence of the vacancy." Cheers, Number 57 13:01, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi #57. From this article. It states that the VP will act as President for a max. of 90 days. Ali Fazal (talk) 13:06, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
Ah yes, I found another version of the constitution on the Parliament website, which isn't the same as the other one - it seems the first version that pops up on a Google search is actually a proposed one. Cheers, Number 57 13:08, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Haven't seen you before. Nice "meeting" you. I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 00:38, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

I saw your attempt to contact him at I think he/she has moved on to IP address for a while. His editing at Kilimanjaro is getting really under my skin, each time instantly and without explanation reverting my additions to a section I wrote years ago and then returning it over a dozen edits in a lesser fashion, with omissions and misinterpretations. I'll just stay away from it for a while. Afasmit (talk) 11:43, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi Afasmit. Apologies for my delayed response. You may request the article be protected. FYI: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/AfricaTanz/Archive. I understand your predicament - it does get annoying. The user seems to have access to a plethora of IP ranges. Initiating discussions with "it" is futile - from my personal experience. Hello Alifazal, Thank you with your help on the article: Harriet Mayanja-Kizza. I may call on you in future, when I get in trouble again. There are so many troublemakers out there. Cheers! Fsmatovu (talk) 17:19, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

  • Hi @Fsmatovu:. You are welcome. Do not let the blockee AfricaTanz deter you from making your valuable contribution to this project. The user has a penchant of hounding edits of marked editors and seems to attain some sort of pleasure by doing this - it's strange, I know. I guess the blockee is most probably a loner or a pensioner who has time to undo other users' edits. Thank you for your edits related to Tanzania and Africa in general. Have a good day! Disambiguation link notification for January 30[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Yemi Osinbajo, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page United Nations Operations in Somalia (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi Alifazal[edit]

Hi Alifazal, I forgot to fix the color on the 2015 Nigerian general election when I made the changes. I will fix that back as soon as I undo the edits back to the colors blue and red. Hope you understand. Thanks Stanleytux (talk) 12:02, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Stanleytux:, please do note that the map uses the current colour ie PDP (green) and APC (red). I don't have a problem as long as it doesn't disrupt the Nigerian general election, 2015 article and cause confusion to the readers. Ali Fazal (talk) 12:10, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
Alifazal, Maps are optional. Text already covers it all. Stanleytux (talk) 12:15, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
@Stanleytux: I disagree. It may be optional, but there is a provision for it to be used in the infobox and it has been used. It makes the article more descriptive. You do NOT have the right to remove it in order for you to use the colors of your choice. Ali Fazal (talk) 12:21, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Nigerian election results by state[edit]

Please don't delete this addition; it was obtained from INEC's twitter feed here:

Twitter is pretty much how many Nigerian institutions disseminate information to the public; the information is no less authoritative because it is not posted on a static page. Feel free to verify the results if you wish by visiting the feed.

Sudanese results[edit]

Hey Ali. Good work on adding the results to the Sudanese article. The full National Assembly results are also available in the same source as the Presidential results (see second last page of the pdf document for the seat totals), but it's all in Arabic... Number 57 16:14, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Tanzania Posts Corporation[edit]

I have noticed alot of your edits throughout the wiki related to Tanzania. I am currently working on the Tanzania Posts Corporation page and I would be grateful if you could add your two cents if you have time. The current page kinda sucks and if you are interested you are more than welcome to make edits.

User:Sputink/sandbox/Tanzania Postal Corporation

You seem very experienced and it would be great to get your input before I put it on the actual page.
