Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Alliance of Girls Schools, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Alliance of Girls' Schools Australasia, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! —C.Fred (talk) 02:23, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi
I'm not sure why you would block the update I posted. It was not promotional and updated the history of the not-for-profit organisation, Alliance of Girls' Schools Australasia, to include the details of a recent merger with the International Coalition of Girls Schools. I also added more detail to the history, but I have not advocated for membership or in any way promoted the organisation

Promotion tends to be loosely interpreted on Wikipedia, especially in cases of editors who have a conflict of interest with the subject(s) they are promoting. The fact that the text was lifted so directly from AGSA's website was prima facie evidence of promotional intent. Further, Wikipedia's very strict guidelines regarding copyright required us to undo your edit: because the material was taken directly from another website that protected the material with an all-rights-reserved license, we could not use it on Wikipedia. (There are limited exceptions for things like logo, album covers, and quotations.)
Even if the required steps were taken to freely license the text, it would need to be rewritten to be in encyclopedic tone.
As an aside, the ICGS article has a maintenance tag on it because of promotional tone: the article needs editors who are independent from the coalition to rewrite the text to have neutral tone. —C.Fred (talk) 11:46, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Hammersoft (talk) 02:44, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am the Australasian Regional Executive Director for the International Coalition of Girls' schools (ICGS). The Alliance of Girls Schools Australasia has merged with ICGS and I would like to update the entry to reflect this.

Decline reason:

Your account must represent you as a person; it cannot even represent your role as Executive Director. Please note that if you were to be unblocked, you should not be editing the article of AGSA, ICGS, or any other affiliated entity because of your conflict of interest, even if you make the requisite paid editing disclosures. —C.Fred (talk) 03:54, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for explaining this to me. I'd like to have the information on the association updated so it reflects the current status and history. At the moment it is very out of date. How can I request this? Alliance of Girls Schools (talk) 05:13, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you were unblocked, you would request on the association's article's talk page to have the edits made, and you'd include reliable sources—preferably sources independent of the association, like news coverage—that support the change. Is there such a source out there? (Note to other admins: Yes, I am intentionally inviting this editor to respond about the subject here.) —C.Fred (talk) 11:15, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I did some looking myself and found this Educator Australia article that covered the merger. I augmented that with information on on the AGSA website about the merger timeline. —C.Fred (talk) 11:35, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
One other note: I have reached out to WP:WikiProject Women in Red about the AGSA and ICGS articles to get assistance from them in improving their quality. (My message is at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red#Article assistance or referral to another project: International Coalition of Girls' Schools) That WikiProject is focused on gender equity and representation in articles; if it's outside their scope, they'll be able to point me in the direction of another group of editors likely to pitch in and improve the articles. For editing related to ICGS, that may be your best long game: to get involved with WikiProject Women in Red or WikiProject Women where, if there are major needs for the article, you can reach a broader group of editors. For minor maintenance, the {{request edit}} tag on the talk page will get noticed. I know I will have the articles on my watchlist, to keep an eye on them and help out with them as I can. —C.Fred (talk) 12:00, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
