Raichur Thermal Power Station[edit]

What's "MU" stand for in your article? It says your plant can generate "35 MU" per day. --Adamrush 22:43, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

That doesn't mean anything. Please replace it with a real unit of measurement. --Adamrush 13:34, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Zinta[edit]

"According to her, as a child groomed in an army household, she learnt the principles of discipline and punctuality."

Is that still needs a tag. Do you suggest to remove it? ShahidTalk2me 11:22, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

OK, removed this sentence. BTW, everything which you can find about an actor's background is anyway told by him, whether it's written in direct speech or reported one. Regards, ShahidTalk2me 11:34, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Feel free to edit the page, but please don't remove referenced things, which you consider as POV. I remember you writing in the edit summary "Oh please she did not make such an impact" which is definitely your POV and personal opinion on the actress. And please see Jolie's page before. My edits inspired by this site. My really best regards, ShahidTalk2me 11:45, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

I've attempted to address some of the POV concerns and havewarned agsinst using rediff.com too often as a primary source. Have a look thanks ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 13:16, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

My concern is too much reliance on rediff.com and boxofficeIndia.com particularly as the latter doesn't have a home link on it for verification. Encyclopedia articles need to be complied from a variety of sources with references that can be fully verified but scanning the text and the references these are cited too often as are often used to justify whole paragraphs. Now Im not even debating the reliability of these sites -I believe they are but I feel we need to introduce some negative comments on her films and introduce a number of different and reliable sources' and try to address it neutrally for each film rather than conceding it was critically acclaimed. If rediff.com is a fan site then this is flawed, but quoting professional film critics isn't. I would like to see some of the reactions to the film neutrally, Surely there must be other sites which adequately give different reviews of her films. But is does seem that the internet is dominated by fan sites. PLease respond if you agree thanks ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 14:21, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

I can see how you may consider the article selective in its use of quotes and text to glorify her but I believed this was fact and indeed vast majority of her performances have been praised cosiderably. Now if you have information that some of her performances have actually not been as acclaimed as appears I would most certainly like to know and I think it is vital to give a neutral view of her career and provide fact. I am not Indian and am not aware of the kind of response she's had but I was sure there shuold be some negative quotes in there also to give a more balanced view- I was judging by Internet sources -which you are now questioning. I apologise if I appeared rude earlier but for its to pass GA and A with flying colours and receive 25 supports for FA then get it knocked back to a B after along nomination process you must see how it came as a shock ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 14:28, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

The thing is though, we need to write a full encyclopedia article neutrally but if there are no sources which can be used to write it adequately and in a balanced way how can it be possible? It would be a very good idea to give a list of websites that are considered to be reliable and neutral and not a fan site and attmept to build it around this. However it appears that removing any of those references which aren't seen as reliable leaves us with a strictly limited and basic reference system and that much of the article would have to be removed as a result. No we can't based on article on fan sites with clear POV but there unfortunately doens't appear to be many if any sites which can be used here which meet the criteria, especially on a Bollywood related article when much online details are generated by the fan base anyway. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 14:39, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes this is why I removed some of the quotes which didn;t directly help the article. Nobody wants to quote "Joe Bloggs said the film was terrific" in an encyclopedia article if it is from a fan site but my intial interpretetion was that these were critics who were well known in the film industry and were adequate and a good example of general reception of the film. . If references can be switched and tone addressed so that is appears balanced I still think it could remain GA standard. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 15:10, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Why are you being unfair? Miss Zinta is not guilty that Indian critics have no pages on Wikipedia like American. See Jolie again. Have you seen any quote written in a reported speech? No, there are no. I'm addressing your fact tags. What's the problem? Please reply, and please be fair. I'm tired, and with every moment just wish to leave Wikipedia. ShahidTalk2me 15:19, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Please see this. Both apunkachoice.com and indiaFM are mentioned on rediff. I think the main problem now is reliability of sources. Thanks, ShahidTalk2me 15:27, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Well I've also tried to begin addressing the tone of it and have put a tremendous amount of effort to discuss this which I normally wouldn't do. I thought your edits were a good step to try to correct what was wrong, and to find solid sources and help Shahid replace them and I thought I was helping by removing quotes from some of these sites like "Zinta is a bubbly chatterbox" and intergrating some into text which would help at least keep it a GA. If these issues can't be addressed by either you or me then I also am moving on. However the difference between the Jolie and Zinta articles is that the quotes whether positive or negative are balanced and when it gives quotes it cites the solid sources such as The New York Times and makes some assertion that they are top film critics or whatever. Perhaps this is the bias of wikipedia in that American sources and critics who have garnered awards are seen as reliable but an Indian film critic who doens't have an article or seem to be notable to the western civilization is not. It makes it very difficult indeed. Good luck anyway also. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 15:33, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

I really think the best thing to do now is to create a list of sources which can be used without question in the article and make a list of Indian film critics who indeed are professional and work for professional bodies and can be cited in the article and attempt to find sources around that. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 15:51, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

According to an administrator, it does. It's an evidence. I'm not going to fight, in any case I'm not waiting for your "keep" anymore. Best regards, ShahidTalk2me 16:00, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Regarding Karnataka article[edit]

Hi Amar, I am from Madikeri. I tried editing the article to include some details about Madikeri Dasara. Later, I found that it got deleted by some one. Also, i was trying to add picture of Karaga. Shall i add this in the article.

official language[edit]

I've read your link.

It talks about declaration of kannada as official language. But it does not say that english has been discontinued. If you see page 3 it says that English to be continued for official purposes.

And also most of the govt notices & communications with corpoartes are still issued in English along with kannada.

I hope i've made clear what i'm trying to say —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crazysoul (talkcontribs) 10:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Hey dude... It does not say that English has been discontinued as official language. And nowhere does it says that Kannada is the "only" official language —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crazysoul (talkcontribs) 11:01, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

I am honoured by your request[edit]

Dear Sir: I am honoured by your request to copyedit the Mysore article and shall begin work ASAP ("As Soon As Possible"). Namaste, Writtenright 18:45, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Writtenright

I have finished Mysore. I have gone through the article with some care and consider it to be as polished as I can make it. I have changed "equestrian" to "equestrian events" because "equestrian" is, in this instance, an adjective; we need a noun or noun phrase here. I have taken the further and much greater liberty of changing "sports persons" to "sportsmen" because the current vogue for shying away from "men" in the sense of "persons" is a politically-motivated faux confusion foisted upon the English language by the feminists and their fellow-travellers; "man" in English means, as its primary meaning, "human person" irrespective of gender, and so "sportsmen" is the same thing as "sports persons", but much more economically stated. (I am not here objecting to feminism per se, but merely wish to register my objection to the further politicisation of language, either by governments, by political parties, or by any other groups). Namaste, Writtenright 01:02, 14 November 2007 (UTC)Writtenright
Thank you for the Copyeditor's Barnstar. You are much too generous. I shall strive to be worthy of this honour. Namaste, Writtenright 19:13, 14 November 2007 (UTC)Writtenright

Amargg[edit]

This isn't about the FA thats ancient history. It's recent events with the images which I and Riana approved and I believe are justified and really help the project and the attempt to speedy a detailed existing article and the chain of his actions which is why I am concerned. If he had got on with his tagging and improving comment without gwtting in my way I wouldn't even raise an eyebrow ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 18:50, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

without getting in my way - So that's the whole point here, ain't it? Gnanapiti 18:55, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Don't twist my words. I mean if he hadn't edited in an area I have done some work on I wouldn't have noticed his edits and he wouldn't have been reported. It does make me wonder what goes on across this site that I don't know about ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 19:14, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Mysore[edit]

Amar, I was just looking into this article, and with WrittenWright's excellent copyedit, it has taken a much better shape now. Are we good moving this ahead to formal peer review? Thanks - KNM Talk 16:48, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

AFD[edit]

Hello Amarrg

My thoughts on the Judietwoshoes wikipedia entry.

Whilst it is certainly true to say that this band was not particularly notable, the music scene in Bristol at that time was certainly notable, and I have attempted to reflect this.

The social and economic changes of the 80´s and 90´s ended this particular burst of collective creativity.

Maybe the article should be revised to document a city phenomena rather than one obscure band.

Language issue[edit]

Hello Amar, I come from this region. The exact region that is quoted in the article to be speaking Mapilla Malayalam. I have never heard of such a thing in my entire life, until I read this article. I can tell you this is absurd because there exists no such thing that is spoken in these areas. Let me again tell you that it's slang. Similar to the various slangs used in Bangalore and Northern Karnataka where you will hear "Hengri Hegri etc" A similar style of speaking. This is not restricted to a particular part of Kerala. If you go to the Eranakulam side they have their own style, but it is still Malayalam. Visit Trishur area similar thing. I am astonished to find that this is such a propaganda in the name of religion. It's like saying Mapilla Kannada is spoken by Muslims of Karnataka. Absurd.

I would like you to go to these areas and ask the people which language they speak. Just like that. They will say Malayalam. Ask them they had ever heard of Mapilla Malayalam, I can assure you that they will be very much astonished to hear it from you. Also let me remind you that the people of this area (Irrespective of religion) speak the same slang.

Let's look The three links in the article. One is from some NVTC site. It says "The Arabic script is also used occasionally by Muslims in Kerala." Why should muslims in Kerala use Arabic script to write Malayalam. Why not write Arabic itself. The flaw in this statement is that it never claims that the Muslims of Kerala writes Malayalam in Arabic script. Similarly we can say that others can write it Malayalam or Kannada words in English script. Like when I say. "Hegri" it's in English.

The second link is by a website run by a Jewish person. Don't know how credible it is. The researcher must have got confused with the way he looks at Kerala. Since the said area is a an area with higher percentage of Muslims than rest of Kerala he must have thought that it's a different language. One or two Arabic word and voila you have got a new language. It's idotic thing. I had to admit that certain limited words are loaned from Arabic into Malayalam just like how words like Lorry, Bus are loaned from English. These things never existed when Malayalam was born and no revolutionary writers tried to find alternatives for it. So it struck. That will not make it English Malayalam. Now I think you are convinced that there is only one Malayalam and yes, ofcourse with certain slangs in different parts but nothing religious as such until now. Chanakyathegreat (talk) 13:39, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Mapilla Malayalam[edit]

There's a DRV tag on Mappila Malayalam but I don't see it on the DRV page anywhere... Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 02:47, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Mapilla Malayalm DVR[edit]

Hi, I put the deletion review tag there because I am of the opinion the AfD was closed way too quickly and the article should be deleted because it is confusing the religious and ethnic origins of the subject. The Malayalam Wiki deleted the same article and it needs to be readdressed.---Humanharmony2222 (talk) 08:06, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
