Udayar

[edit]

I am sorry but I have had to revert your contribution to Udayar (caste). You appear to be copying information from Udayar (title) and you cannot use one Wikipedia article as |a source for another, nor can you copy from one to another without noting that you are doing so in the edit summary. Finally, I am not entirely convinced of the merits of the point: are you saying that the title is only ever used by that particular caste? If so, then we should probably merge the two articles to form one - but you would have to be able to verify your point. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 19:13, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sitush, I am new to the site so please accept my apologies if the edits were not in proper order. I had edited last night with Slazener's approval. Please let me know what would you consider as a verifyable?

The Udayar Title is used by the people from the Parkavakulam community (which is synonymous with the Udayar/Udaiyar/Odayar caste). The caste has 5 subsects and 2 of them use Udayar as their surnames while the other three chose to use a combination of surnames.

I am in disagreement with a few lines of the article content.

1) Udayar as a caste applies to the parkavakulam community which actually is a dominant royal community in Tamil Nadu and hence Socially humbler than Vellalar is a view point of Selvaraj in his book 2) The community was a forward caste community till 1990-1991 when it was categorized as a backward caste after a fierce battle with the social and judicial system in Tamil Nadu since opportunities were lost by people of this community due to reservation system in Tamil Nadu and the Mandal commission. This was supported and led by late GK Moopanar of the community Current listed as BC(http://www.tn.gov.in/bcmbcmw/bclist.htm) 3) The article that you have currently has it listed with its two fellow Maravar groups which are different.
