I am not sure we need to say this [1]. It is standard that abbreviations are placed in circle brackets after a word is it not? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 07:45, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Dunno, but I've seen articles starting with "Nonproprietary-name (Manufacturer) is a drug...", with "Nonproprietary-name (Trade name) is a drug...", and with "Nonproprietary-name (former code) is a drug...", and I like to err on the side of clarity (especially because we're writing for laypeople). --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 15:02, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
