Search and replace while editing an article

Wikipedia user Cacycle has created a text editor that replaces Wikipedia's default text editing window. It has advanced search/replace features built-in, including regex (regular expression)‍—‌and many other features.

It is called wikEd, and works with your Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome web browser. Simply select wikEd on the Gadgets panel of your wiki Preferences, in the "Editing" section.

I think you made a mistake here. Not only did G11 not apply because not all revisions meet the criterion, the article survived a previous AFD and was thus ineligible for speedy deletion per Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Pages that have survived deletion discussions. Speedy Deletion of Verve International[edit]

in re: Verve International (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Hello Athaenara,

Verve International was created yesterday, nominated for deletion and speedily deleted.

I had earlier dropped the following on InsertCleverPhraseHere talk page the following instead here...

"Thanks for showing interests in the article Verve International I created hours ago, which has been speedily deleted without giving me the opportunity to defend it. Let me quickly give a background of me: I am a journalist with interests in financial technology and payment industry, especially as related to Nigeria. In the course of researching for my work, I realised there is a dearth of Wikipedia contents about Nigerian payment industry. This discovery lately has spurred me to try as much as possible to get Nigerian contents published on Wikipedia. Like you know, painstaking researches and studies go into Wikipedia writing. This I have done without any prompting from anyone to write the 'Verve International' which has just been deleted. The suggestion that the page was promotional and advertising appears to me unfounded. Is Verve notable? Yes, and eminently so! Further research, as provided in the references, will confirm this. I studied several Wikipedia pages of businesses in payment industry all around the world (e.g. Discover Financial (US), China UnionPay with sections which do not cite sources, JCB Co., Ltd. of Japan, RuPay of India, I will appreciate you showing me the specifics that made 'Verve International' violate Wikipedia guidelines in related to these mentioned pages. There is nowhere in that article I laid claims to things with no citations or references. Thank you as I look forward to your restoring the page, at least for improvement." RovingFingers (talk) 11:29, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

Kudpung กุดผึ้ง dropped the following message responding to me...
(talk page stalker). RovingFingers, User:Insertcleverphrasehere was the patroller. The actual deletion was done on further review by administrator Athaenara whom you should contact. I have reviewed the deleted article and it is just possible that it might meet our notability criteria. Verve is a large organisation and is probably unlkely to benfit promotionally from being in Wikipedia. However, as you most probably wrote the article on behalf of Verve, you have a Conflict of Interest and should have declared your associateion with the organisation. I'll let Athaenara respond on your talk page. Any decision to undelete will rest with them. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 05:02, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
I responded thus...
Kudpung thanks for your comments. I have no association whatsoever with Verve; neither was I contacted by it or its representative(s). The only thing I guess I did that likely seemed promotional was sharing the link with a Whatsapp group (of Financial Technology reporters) I belong to. This I did with an intent to let the group know the page was up should there be need to give background to future stories about Verve. The fact is we are grossly challenged with web-based facts about businesses and issues in Nigeria; and several of us who have taken it upon ourselves to provide such contents when time and resources avail us the opportunity to do so need be encouraged. Athaenara, kindly revisit and review. I have no conflict of interest, nor intended to promote or advertise the page as thought. Thank you.RovingFingers (talk) 05:37, 6 September 2017 (UTC)RovingFingers (talk) 11:51, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

Related deletion requests[edit]

Hi! Thanks for speedy deleting my User:D'Ranged 1/parameter naming sandbox and User:D'Ranged 1/parameter naming sandbox2 as requested. Those two sandbox pages were transcluded on a host of Template testcase and sandbox pages; I also requested speedy deletion for them. They can be found at Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as test pages; they're the "Cite..." pages. Without my sandbox pages, the template testcase pages are displaying red links where the transclusions used to be. The sandbox pages consist solely of a link to the related testcase page. Thanks!—D'Ranged 1 | VTalk :  13:09, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of Sher Vancouver and Vinay Giridhar[edit]

in re: User:Sher Vancouver/sandbox (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), User:Vinay Giridhar/sandbox (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
see also: User talk:Sher Vancouver

Hi Athaenara

How are you? I hope you are well.

You deleted pages I created using my Sher Vancouver and Vinay Giridhar accounts. I am actually learning how to use Wikipedia. I wanted to write a page about Sher Vancouver for information and educational purposes. I gathered all the information from verifiable and reliable sources from the internet and created my page. Every sentence had a reference with mainstream media such as the Hindustan Times or Huffington Post. I spent a lot of time creating the page and adding the references. Can you explain what you found promotional so I can delete those sections on my next attempt. I felt everything I posted was factual based on the information from the sources I gathered.

Also I created two accounts with user names Sher Vancouver and Vinay Giridhar by mistake. I worked on both accounts from my home and office computer. I started to receive all these automatic messages that I am doing something wrong. My name is Vinay Giridhar and Sher Vancouver is the non profit society that I wish to write about. Can you delete the account or change the username for Sher Vancouver. I will try to create another article about Sher Vancover using my Vinay Giridhar account.

I would appreciate your help in me creating my first Wikipedia article and I am sorry if I violated any of the Wikipedia rules. Thank you.

Have an nice day.

As for your desire to use this encyclopedia to promote your organization, please read Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause. Surat redirects[edit]

in re: many pages linked in List of tourist attractions in Surat which merely redirect to Surat

I noticed you are deleting a bunch of Surat redirects as G7. Where did the author of those redirects request deletion? I was under the impression that the author was going to update the tourist attraction list instead. -- Tavix (talk) 21:13, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

I've been deleting most of them as G6, adding "tagged G7, more at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2017 November 1" to the summaries. There are similar discussions at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2017 October 29 and Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2017 November 2. – Athaenara 21:25, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Okay, then how are they G6? This doesn't look like a maintenance task either. -- Tavix (talk) 21:26, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
It looks like cleanup to me. Do you want them undeleted as per this discussion? – Athaenara 21:30, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Yes, please. I think some of them can be retargeted to the tourist attraction list. The author mentioned he was going to update it to include more information. -- Tavix (talk) 21:46, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

File:Gregoire Lake 0356.jpg[edit]

Hey there, I was going through some files and landed on File:Gregoire Lake 0356.jpg. I noticed you tagged it to keep a local copy "per uploader's request" - I was wondering where this request took place as the editor hadn't edited for three years prior to that request. Thank you. Jon Kolbert (talk) 19:18, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

That was more than six years ago. A bot had tagged it as being available on Commons in December 2010, and comparing that with the uploader's statement may have prompted me to tag it in January 2011. – Athaenara 08:11, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello! I've written an article about Steve Berke in my sandbox. Now it turns out you protected the Wiki page back in 2011 because of advertising. I kindly ask you to unblock it so I can copy my article there. If you can't do that, can you please tell me who to contact? There should definitely be a page about him. --Blindselfie (talk) 13:09, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

You haven't edited anything else on Wikipedia as Blindselfie, have you previously registered other accounts? If so, what are they? Hempydaze and Jaybrown89 also registered to edit only a Steve Berke page, are you familiar with them?
It would be a good idea to establish what your purpose is here. Your brief editing history suggests that yours is a single-purpose account with a conflict of interest (a COI SPA in Wikipedia parlance) registered solely to promote Steve Berke. – Athaenara 14:30, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for the quick reply. I have never registered other accounts on Wikipedia. It's true I've come here with a single purpose. I have a "niche interest", as Wikipedia:Single-purpose account calls it: I've participated in the cannabis legalization movement for years now. I'm not a member of any organization mentioned in the article. I have no idea who those people from 2011 were, although "Hempydaze" could be another activist, judging by the nickname. I met Berke once at a festival, and I have several acquaintances who know him. Nobody asked me to write the article, I've written it because I think he's important. I did intend to let him know about it once it was published. I don't think I'm in a conflict of interest, but I'll trust your judgement. -- Blindselfie (talk) 18:21, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
It was salted because of repeated re-creations. As your version is years later and substantially different, I removed that restriction today. You may move it into draft space or article space as you choose. – Athaenara 00:05, 2 December 2017 (UTC)
I moved it into article space. Thanks a lot and all the best. -- Blindselfie (talk) 02:25, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

As your sandbox page was nearly identical to the now-deleted spam page previously created by now-blocked user Jeremy112233 (talk · contribs), it may be safe to assume that the Meltedmud user account is yet another sockpuppet engaging in paid editing, without disclosure as required by Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. JS Media, Jon Stancer[edit]

in re: User:JSMedia/sandbox/Jon Stancer (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
see also: Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion/Archive 289#Draft:Jon Stancer (singer-songwriter)

Hello Athaenara,

My page (Jon Stancer) was a 'work-in-progress'. I considered it a draft and I didn't realize that is was accessible by others or that I was breaching Wikipedia's terms and conditions as I was writing it. I believed that via my account login, I was creating and editing something to be published at a later date. I also didn't realize, that the article that I was working on could be removed and that I wouldn't be able to retrieve it. It was the only copy of the article that I had. I would very much appreciate it if I could get my article back. That is my primary hope. If I am able to get it back, I will re-submit it to Wikipedia when ready (ie work on it offline). Please and thank you.

Btw, JSMedia (my current username) is just one person (me, Jason Schneider) and not a company or group. I also didn't realize that it was a bad choice of username when I created my account and have since submitted a request to have it changed.

Again, my thanks for your consideration and kind attention to this matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JSMedia (talkcontribs) 17:18, 5 December 2017 (UTC) [now Jasonschneider (talk · contribs)]

It was a spam page. If you're just one person, why did you talk about "our page" and "our account login", etc., in your request for undeletion? – Athaenara 18:12, 5 December 2017 (UTC)
I represent the musician, Jon Stancer. As he is the subject of the article, I have been consulting and conferring with him in order to ensure the information I am putting out there is accurate. I mistakenly used the words 'we' and 'our' in referring to him, but I am the lone user of this account. — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 19:27, 5 December 2017 (UTC) I mentioned, I was creating the article on Wikipedia, not realizing it was readable by anyone. My intention (once finished) was to run it by an associate to make sure it was okay to post. If the language I was using was indicative of what is typically flagged as 'spam', then I understand that now and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to revise so that it abides by the terms and conditions and can be posted. Please note, I am a first-time Wikipedia user (I suppose that is fairly obvious now). Certainly, there were no ill-intentions here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 20:15, 5 December 2017 (UTC)
Looks like it's time for you to post {{Paid}} on your user page as per Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#Paid editors and Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure, which you should read. – Athaenara 01:14, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
This doesn't apply to me. I am not being paid. The subject of the article is a friend. I do work in the publicity field, but I am not receiving compensation from him. I was merely trying to write and post an article about the subject. It's really that simple. No hidden agendas or malicious intentions. Is there any way I could have my article back so that I can revise it accordingly and have a chance at reposting it?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 13:44, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
At this point, I'd just like a copy of my article back (it was the only copy, as I mentioned). This doesn't seem to me an unreasonable request. I don't know if I'll try to post it here again, but if I do and there are issues with it, then you can feel free to remove it again or better still, bring the issues to my attention so I can effectively address them (although I would be extremely careful not to make the same mistakes again). I didn't intend for this to become a conflict of any sort. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 14:18, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
I completely understand and you are entirely justified in removing the article if terms were violated, but I don't quite understand why it's being kept from me. As long as it's not on Wikipedia in its current form, then why am I not permitted to have my piece of writing back? I've received (and appreciate) the explanations relative to my 'mis-steps', but I haven't received any explanations as to why my work is being withheld from me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 14:44, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
"While editing Wikipedia, an editor's primary role is to further the interests of the encyclopedia. When an external role or relationship could reasonably be said to undermine that primary role, the editor has a conflict of interest." That's a quote from Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#External roles and relationships. I'm not electing to undelete your page myself, but you can try following the instructions for posting on Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion and perhaps convince some other admin to do what you request. I recommend logging in for that. – Athaenara 15:15, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
I know you posted a request there before, but there's no harm in trying again. – Athaenara 15:17, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Thank you. I may very well do that but this is no longer about posting on Wikipedia (or not). It's now (for me) about getting my work back. Whether or not the article ends up on Wikipedia remains to be seen. I would just like a copy of the article. The Wikipedia page can remain deleted for the time being. I am fine with that. Is it possible to have my work back without the page having to be undeleted? Perhaps a copy could be sent privately via email? Certainly, it is accessible to someone (you?) on the admin end... — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 15:50, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Sorry - can I get a response to this please? Is there some way I can get my work back? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jasonschneider (talkcontribs) 13:13, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

Try the category linked near the top of this page in my bulletin board section, it's currently called Wikipedia administrators willing to provide copies of deleted articles. I'm not in it. – Athaenara 14:34, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Okay. So do all 125 admins listed there have the ability to provide me with a copy of my deleted article? I'm sorry - I am completely new to this. Who am I suppose to ask? Any one of these 125?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 18:55, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

Thank you, Damianbec (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 17:41, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

It's hard to see what notability Givner might actually have. Enrolling in a school from which Lew Alcindor had recently graduated? Taking a leak in a nearby balcony flowerpot during a Watergate burglary? What you wrote strongly suggests you're the guy himself or someone close to or paid by him to get this résumé/puff piece published somewhere, anywhere. It is not an encyclopedia article. – Athaenara 18:02, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

in re: ASAP TyY (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Draft:ASAP TyY (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Hello Athaenara,

My page ASAP TyY was deleted and I simply would like to be able to access it so that I can fix it without completely redoing it, as it took quite a while to create. It was deleted due to copyright infringement from ASAP TyY's website,, even though I received permission from the site's owner. If the wikipedia page could be temporarily reinstated, or simply sent to me, it would a long way in my goal to fix the page in a speedy fashion.

It would be an incredible help if you could get back to me at your earliest convenience.

Innodisk Corporation page deletion[edit]

in re: Innodisk (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Innodisk Corporation (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
see also: Special:Contributions/Jojo Chang, User talk:Mikeleetpe, and User:阿豆仔/sandbox (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Hi Athaenara,

Full disclosure, my colleague was the one who created the original Innodisk Corporation page that was deleted, and she asked me to look into it. As it was mostly copy-paste from our website (and blatant advertisement) the page was rightly deleted.

I wrote a draft for a new page in my sandbox User:阿豆仔/sandbox and I wondered if you could take a look and see if it is more in line with Wikipedia standards.

I know that this comes off as a WP:SPA, but the company should be notable enough for an article. I've also been a long time lurker around Wikipedia, so I'm already halfway familiar with how things work and I would like to start contributing more once I have the time.

Thank you for your time! 阿豆仔 (talk) 02:02, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

The October 2016 Innodisk version by registered user "Jojo Chang" and the July 2017 Innodisk Corporation version by "Mikeleetpe" were very different in style but both seemed designed to convey the impression that the company is very important and we all should think so. That's the kind of thing one expects in a business listing on some other web site that isn't an encyclopedia. What we have here on Wikipedia are three users with some connection with the company, trying to promote it via advertisements masquerading as articles.
Many enterprises try to use Wikipedia for that, and many apparently succeed, so it's understandable when some who register accounts here, but aren't active editors in a variety of subject areas, may think that hijacking the encyclopedia anyone can edit for that purpose is legitimate. It isn't, and I don't want to help any company, partners, or employees who are trying to do it. – Athaenara 08:24, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for the swift reply!
I'm not trying to make any excuses for my colleagues here, they went at it without really knowing anything about Wikipedia policies for purely promotional purposes. So I totally understand your reaction to this.
Yet, I truly believe the company has enough notability to warrant an article. A quick google search will give plenty of independent secondary sources to back this up and there are also several existing pages on Wikipedia that mentions the company. However, being a B2B company based in Taiwan, there really aren't that many people capable of writing an article for the English version of Wikipedia. So what I'm asking you is to look past my biased position here and evaluate if the draft I wrote is in any way acceptable.
PS: I fully understand if your decision still remains unchanged, but I would still love some feedback on what I wrote as I did my best to approach it from a neutral point of view, and I found it quite helpful in learning how to edit and navigate Wikipedia. I do sincerely wish to start contributing more to the encyclopedia.
Again, thank you for your time!

Speedy deletion of Zapproved[edit]

I'm the writer who put up the new Zapproved page. Please see my note on my talk page about the sockpuppet reference--I am not the user you referenced and have no affiliation with him.

I've also substantially modified the page from earlier versions, which I believe lacked citations to credible third-party sources and also copied text from the Zapproved website. This version did neither and provided an objective third-party view of this company, which does have merit as it is revolutionizing the ways the businesses govern their information and store it for use in lawsuits through the legal hold procedure: Zapproved was the first to allow businesses to do this in the cloud, which is incredibly significant for the legal industry. Moreover, the significance of this company has been recognized by Gartner, Inc., Deloitte, the Wall Street Journal, and the like.

Would you please reconsider your decision? I'm happy to revise the page if you find something about it particularly troubling.

Thank you.Kwalinsk (talk) 13:44, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

It is par for the course in your profession for practitioners to be appear charming, persuasive, and very reasonable. That's not going to help you much here. Your client hired you and your "scribe on demand" firm to promote it here, and you're apparently not the first it hired to do that. The problem here is your choice of venue: I cannot emphasize strongly enough that you should stop right now. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a free business listing website. If you persist, your account will be blocked from editing, your client disappointed, and your reputation sullied. Welcome to The Cabal. Your deletion of Tony Ahn (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) qualifies you to wear the badge of the rouge admin. It is a mark of pride :-) Guy (Help!) 10:14, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Athaenara, nice to meet you. I'm the author of the Wes Nichols draft which you deleted; I've (hopefully) addressed all the issues in that prior draft and put up a new draft up at I hope it meets with approval this time.

Thanks so much,

It's still spam, and you should have a {{Paid}} declaration on your user page. – Athaenara 16:40, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
