Draft denial
[edit]Hello, I hope you’re doing well @Atlantic306.
I noticed that my draft, Chapel of Our Lady of Guidance, was declined by you on the grounds that it allegedly copied text from another source.
First, I would like to state that the text was inspired by that source, which is an official Portuguese government heritage website, but it was not copied. A simple translation of the text into Portuguese and a side-by-side comparison should make this clear.
Second, the website I used explicitly states that its texts may be quoted or used in part for academic or non-commercial purposes, provided that the source is properly credited. Therefore, even if the text had been directly copied (which it wasn’t), this would not violate any copyright, website, or Wikipedia policy.
I would appreciate if you could review your previous decision, for the sake of making Wikipedia fuller and better.
Good continuations,
V.B.Speranza (talk) 01:13, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- In my opinion it was too close to google translate's version. If you resubmit i'll leave it for another reviewer, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 22:13, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Atlantic306, I request for the previous versions of the article to be reestablished, for the translation was good and it saves me quite some time and the trouble of writing that again. I do appreciate if this was arranged, thank you,

- It would be better if you rewrote it to make it clearly different from a direct translation or there will be similar problems. Also there was a copyright mark on the source page, Atlantic306 (talk) 00:30, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- The website’s copyright page clearly states “O utilizador pode copiar, importar ou utilizar gratuitamente informações existentes neste website para uso pessoal ou público desde que não tenha finalidades comerciais ou ofensivas. O utente deve contudo referir explicitamente a fonte de informação.”.[1]
- This translates to:”Users may copy, import, or use information on this website free of charge for personal or public use, provided that it is not for commercial or offensive purposes. However, users must explicitly cite the source of the information.”.
- Please restore the deleted versions of the page so I can restore it, I didn’t break any rule or copyright law and the deletion of content was not correct.

- Hi @Nthep: in view of this copyright information can you please restore the deleted revisions on the Draft:Chapel of Our Lady of Guidance, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 21:21, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry no, a re-use condition stating provided that it is not for commercial or offensive purposes isn't compatible with the CC-BY-SA 4.0 licence used on Wikipedia. By all means use the content as a source but it really needs re-writing in your own words. Nthep (talk) 21:37, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- And that’s exactly what I did, I did not copy and paste anything, I solely wrote the text with the base on the source, for example the text in the source is huge but I solely wrote a couple paragraphs. The deletion of the text does not breach any copyright law for it was my text, this is a mistake that simply doesn’t benefit anyone involved in this.

- Translation without permission of the copyright holder is still a violation of the copyright of the original material. Even with a machine translation I get something very similar to what was removed. Translate and summarise but don't just translate verbatim the source. Nthep (talk) 15:41, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
- I did not “translate verbatim” anything, and nowhere on the copyright page of the cited governamental source does it state that I need permission to translate the text. If you choose not to comply, that would be a gross and unfounded error on your part, unless, it is shown to me where it says what is claimed to being said.
