Hi AzaToth,

I just checked out the Wikipedia Ad page, because I wanted to see if I could created an ad for a new task force I helped create, The Salem Witch Trials Task Force.

I thought maybe you could make the ad for me because on the Ad page it said: "If you would like an ad to be created for a particular page or project, one of the users listed above may wish to create it for you."

If you have time, is it possible if you could create an ad about that task force for me? If you can, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Image:Screenshot_iraq_error_no_error.PNG listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Screenshot_iraq_error_no_error.PNG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 01:23, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

I tested it with the svg source on Internet Explorer 6.0, and there are no visible problems, so unless you can bring some proofs that it will break on IE 6.0 (screenshots perhaps), I think it's bets to change to SVG again. AzaToth 11:17, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Here is the requested screenshot (captured via Internet Explorer version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300). I don't know how discernible the contrast between #ffffff (255,255,255) and #f9f9f9 (249,249,249) is on your screen, but the difference between #ffffff (255,255,255) and #f8eaba (248,234,186) should be readily apparent. Here is the page from which I captured the screenshot. —David Levy 12:57, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Strange, I didn't see that type of difference. Sadly at the moment I cant test it again, but it's strange. AzaToth 13:19, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
IE6 lacks proper support for 24-bit PNG transparency. Instead of displaying the actual background color, it displays whatever color is specified in the image's bKGD chunk (or gray if no bKGD chunk exists). MediaWiki renders scaled PNGs (and SVGs, which are transcluded as PNGs) with a bKGD attribute of 255,255,255 (white), so that's how the image's background appears in IE6. The two custom PNG icons contain bKGD attributes that precisely match the template's background colors. —David Levy 13:32, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

WP:CFD discussion templates

Re your edits to the CfD discussion starter templates. Your edits seem geared towards adding (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) to category names and '→' in place of 'to'. I should point out that this considerably complicates the work of CfD closers.

As I'm sure you are aware, CfD requires a little more work than most XfD processes. Closing all debates other than Keep/No Consensus results requires admin interaction with WP:CFD/W, listing the debate under the appropriate heading, in the appropriate form, for bot/editor processing. It really helps to have the CfD discussion in a form which is close to that required by CFD/W, making it more or less a simple cut and paste job from the debate to the appropriate CFD/W section. As an example, in the case of rename debates, the situation before your edits gave us :Category:Old name to :Category:New name. This could then be dealt with rather simply. In the aftermath of your changes we now have {{lc|{}}} → {{lc|{}}} to contend with, meaning that we closing admins have to go to quite a bit of effort to convert this to the bot-readable CFD/W form. Faced with 20-30 debates to close in a day's log, this is a bothersome hoop to have to jump through. (The same goes for 'Merge' etc nominations).

Thoughts?

Xdamrtalk 22:28, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I thought no one was using the syntax for a bot, since cfd2, cfr2, cfm2, and cfc2 all had a different syntax, and that their syntax and the howto didn't match. How they look is a minor issue, more important is that they match each other. the lc was ment to make it easier for humans to check, both the current category page, and the target page. And it's not that difficult to parse: s/^:.*?lc\|(.*?)\}.*?\{lc\|(.*?)\}.*?$/:Category:$1 to :Category:$2/m AzaToth 22:48, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
cfr2 and cfm2 are the main ones that I am concerned about. These have to be listed for CFD/W processing in the form * :Category:Old name to :Category:New name. If this text is available somewhere in the code then this would help out enormously. It would be useful if cfd2 also had something in the :Category:Category for deletion form (I don't think anyone actually uses cfc2). (As it happens, as an editor, I rather like the addition of lc; the trouble is, with my admin hat on, it hampers me when it comes to closing the debates :) )
Xdamrtalk 23:15, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I believe that people ain't using cfc2, is because the howto specified the use of cfr2 for cfc, but there existed a cfc2 template, so I thought, why not use it. AzaToth 23:20, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Leet on TW

Hey AzaToth. Is it possible to add "Leet" as a checkbox for the username reporting function in TW. It seems like a pretty common violation. Either that or add an "other" box. (It gets annoying when you can't submit it because you have to check one, though none apply :) ) --R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 00:34, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Minnor Twinkle Error

Hey AzaToth, I just stumbled across a small error in using Twinkle that I thought I'd let you know about. When adding a block template to a user talk page, it adds ~~~~ after the message for a signature. However, the block template incorporates a signature, just like welcomeh for instance, so it ends up adding two. GoodnightmushTalk 02:02, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Twinkle Afd not adding to log?

I love the new XfD feature you added to Twinkle, however it seems that when I created Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Eclipsed_by_Sanity using it, Twinkle did not list it in the log (and I had to do it myself). Just making sure you know about it. :) --RazorICE 08:16, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

New Twinkle image removal can be problematic

I added a comment to the Twinkle talk page, I may be mistaken but the new image removal feature in Twinkle may be problematic.--Commander Keane 10:21, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Re CfD nomination of Category:If-then-else templates

Hi again Carl,

I have nominated Category:If-then-else templates (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome...

Thanks for the courtesy of your message. I'm guessing the templates within the category are superceded by ParserFunctions – or, if not, are you thinking they are best categorized elsewhere...?  Yours, David Kernow (talk) 17:08, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

I believe that because they have been for long superseded by parserfunction, it could be time to let the categories go. AzaToth 17:51, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

TWINKLE Problem

Hi. I have TWINKLE, and I am extremely satisfied with it, but for some reason, it does not open the user's talk page when I revert it. Why is this happening? ---Signed By:KoЯnfan71 (User PageMy TalkContribs) 21:50, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

It'd be awesome if you could include Template:Uw-preview in your Twinkle script, under the [s] section. SalaSkan 11:50, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Oh, also, please remove Template:uw-racism from the [s] section, it got deleted. SalaSkan 12:11, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Awesome. And while you're at it, you could also make a [w]-tab or something like that with all the welcome messages listed (see Wikipedia:Welcoming committee#Welcome templates). SalaSkan 18:30, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
The tabs will probably go to the wasteland. AzaToth 18:33, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

A problem with TW?

I can see the display of the rollbacks, but when I click it, I see a message on the bottom it saids,"Error on page" so is there a bug or just my firewall? Thanks,Also I have internet explorer 7.--Arnon Chaffin (Talk) 18:17, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

According to my calculations, it should be around 0% probability for Twinkle to work under internet explorer. AzaToth 18:24, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Twinkle Feature Request

On the Rollback (AGF/normal/VANDAL) buttons, I wouldn't mind having an "Are you sure?" JavaScript popup message, as I use a laptop and it's easy to bump the mouse button when I'm typing or scrolling... I don't want to accidentally mark a good edit as vandalism due to slipping fingers/palms. Thanks!

Rockerbaby 11:08, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

I haven't added such code for the reason that it would slow people down too much. AzaToth 13:20, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Stable script

The script I keep here[1] is an older stable script version. Eventually, TWINKLE or other script should be at WP:TOOLS. Would you mind making a stable version there to include? Voice-of-All 04:06, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

A stable verison of Twinkle? you must be kidding :) AzaToth 14:30, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Twinlke

Just a quick question, what happened to the page reloading when adding a speedy tag? It seems to stop when it adds the tag. This isn't anything major, but I just liked the reloading feature. Any particular reason why you removed it? By the way, sorry about yet another Twinkle question, you must get so sick of these :P --RazorICE 13:17, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

It was because I made a full rewrite of twinklespeedy. I can add functionallity ti reload the page on finish, but I felt it wasn't the most important. AzaToth 14:28, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Well, if you ever have the time, I suggest you do that again. It was good :) But yeah, not a big priority. Once again, thanks for the great script! --RazorICE 10:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

TW

Hi Azatoth :) I was just wondering something. When using TW, it marks every edit as minor for some reason and I tried everything and its stil doing that, can you please tell me how to stop it marking edits as minor all the time. Cheers --The Sunshine Man 15:33, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

CFDM

You are gramatically correct. However, the reason I changed it was because (to my knowledge) all the bots that deal with the WP:CFD/W page expect the word "to". Thus it would make closing CFD debates easier to use that word in the template. >Radiant< 11:45, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, all these bots... It just feels so wrong to have "to" as it makes no sense. AzaToth 12:23, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
I would suggest that reducing closing complexity on a rather backlogged process is somewhat more important than observing proper grammar in a namespace rife with TLAs, neologisms and other wikislang :) >Radiant< 12:30, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
True, but I believe a more strict layout helps closing admins, than to try to compress everything to one row :) AzaToth 12:33, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Delsorting as part of TW

Hi, as you may have seen, I have been writing a Deletion sorting tool, and I think it is now ready for prime time. It has been using the TW infrastructure, and should look and feel like the other TW tools. I have commented out the code to add "TwinkleConfig.summaryAd" to the edit summary because delsort.js isnt official. How do you feel about adding this to the official TW toolkit? John Vandenberg 02:35, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Had never heard about that project before. I see that the code you have been beeing inspired from is a rather old code, you could look at twinklespeedy.js how I'm trying to transform most of the code to a more generic format. AzaToth 12:55, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
I used revertPage as my general guide and by the time I saw the cleaner twinklespeedy.js, my code had settled. I need to do a few improvements such as turning hardcoded rules (i.e. `watch this page', etc) into config options, but once that is done I'll take a closer look at twinklespeedy.js and try to emulate it. John Vandenberg 15:32, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Other reasons

Hey AzaToth. Is it possible for you to add an other box for the username reporting feature, so that you can type a specific reason, the same way you have it for the AIV part (and making it possible to report without checking a premade one). Thanks, --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@(Let's Go Yankees!) 22:04, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

New Twinkle warning system

Not wanting to disgruntle your hard work at all, looks more intuitive, but it said in the edit for twinklewarn.js, "gone are the menues. at the moment, the block warnings are not included, if you want them, please call me". Does this mean the old menus will be available as well soon? They are fast and easy to click, and I like them. The problem with the new window is that it isn't flexible enough because it doesn't let me see exactly what it's going to do. For instance, I like to bold the shared IP warning, and make sure I know exactly where warnings will appear, and also make sure that it hasn't just been submitted by somebody else so the poor user doesn't get told off twice, so I always click Show preview before accepting the generated text. If the new window won't be optional, I have another question. Would it work to collect the various old versions of the various twinkle javascript files from the history and paste them together in my monobook.js subpage, so I can continue to use that version, or is the relationship between MediaWiki and Twinkle more complicated than that? Anakin 22:26, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

First of all I wanted to get rid of the menus, as they aint work for all, and they require extra includes (remember now that I should remove those from the install page). I also felt it would be faster not to have to click an extra submit, but to do it all per automatic. Though I have though of adding some anti-duplication checks, both so that a user doesn't get more than one warning in a give time period (one minute perhaps), and that there are not two warnings of the same kind during the same day. Perhaps also moving the IP-shared notice under the main date header only. AzaToth 22:36, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Okay, but about how it works, would it theoretically be possible for me to use some altered version of Twinkle by putting it in my monobook.js file, or is that against Wikipedia rules? Anakin 22:39, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Twinkle recreates page with AFD if article is speedily deleted while writing an AFD

Hi! Just to let you know, I absoutely LOVE twinkle, its been so helpful to me as a new pages patroller. One issue I've picked up on tho, if you start to write an AFD, and the article in question is speedily deleted during the process, Twinkle recreates the page in question. This may not be that common of a situation, but is there any way Twinkle could be programmed to warn you if you attempt to add an AFD template to a blank page (thus avoiding the type of situation I went through) Rackabello 03:55, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Hehe, I didn't though of that issue, I could add some sort of check. AzaToth 09:28, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

One Other Bug

Last thing, I promise! I use Firefox for Mac OS X, and I seem to find that clicking on the vandalism link next to an edit does nothing, even though the editor's talkpage is brought up and the status screen says that the vandalized article is being rolled back Rackabello 04:55, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Twinkle XFD error

Hello, I've just started getting a javascript error when using the new-ish xfd functionality; the error is:
e.target.main_choices has no properties http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User%3AAzaToth%2Ftwinklexfd.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript Line 306

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.4 on Win2K. I'll see if I can help you debug this as well, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention in case you see an obvious fix.

Thanks, JavaTenor 18:50, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

The problem was all in my brain, I was a bit fast there and "bugfixed" a non-finish version, and so it went. It should work now. AzaToth 18:53, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Anonblock notice

In TW, when using the anon block template, the summary says "You have been blocked for being anonymous." This doesn't make sense and may make it seem to a user that anon editing isn't allowed. Maybe "your IP address has been blocked". --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@(Let's Go Yankees!) 22:39, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Whoops, thought I had fixed that :) AzaToth 22:51, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Oh. Maybe you have. I just saw it in your contributions today. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@(Let's Go Yankees!) 23:04, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
And now that I notice it, thanks for putting in the level numbers in the dropdown. Also, do the block templates only display for admins? I just cached Firefox, but they still don't show up. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@(Let's Go Yankees!) 23:06, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
I've made it so they only shows for admins. If there is need for non-admins to release such messages, I could remove the onlyadmin feature. AzaToth 23:13, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Though I don't, I imagine some users leave block notices for users when admins don't feel like it because it shows up when they try to edit anyway. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@(Let's Go Yankees!) 23:14, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Minor Problems in TW

Hi Azatoth. Sorry to bug you again, but I have two minor problems :). When reporting to UAA with TW, if you add a custom comment, it's all italicized, and it continues to be until the end of your signature. The sig shouldn't be in italics. The other formatting problem is with AIV. After the reason for reporting TW inserts a break between the custom reason and the period and your signature. The period appears even if the user didn't put one, so if they did, there are two periods. Lastly ( :) ) there is a period before the report if don't put in something like the article name. These are all minor, but I just felt like telling you. :) --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 17:38, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

I noticed some people asking how to use Twinkle (which actually surprised me, it is incredibly simple), so I wanted to ask you if I could write some docs for it. Nevermind, it's working now. Must have fixed it. Thanks! Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 21:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

It's showing up in Category:Wikipedia_articles_needing_translation. Is this some sort of mistake? Thanks.--Flamgirlant 19:56, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Off course I need someone to translate my lousy English to real English... but no, it shouldn't be there. AzaToth 20:13, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

I know you protected this page, but can you please add the newly created template to the bottom of the page?--SefringleTalk 00:01, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Add at top

How come TW adds AIV and UAA reports to the top? --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 15:20, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Oh, the procedure has changed? AzaToth 15:22, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
It doesn't really matter, but I always thought it goes at the bottom. I thought TW used to add it at the bottom also. And also, when the AIV helperbots combine duplicates, the newer one becomes the main one. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 15:26, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

CSS help

AzaToth, would you mind taking a look at the CSS for Template:Hidden messages? The template should be as small (vertically) as possible, but hopefully with not-too-small font size. Thanks, Λυδαcιτγ 18:19, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Bug in morebits?

Morebits seems to be doing something strange to AFD Helper. OverlordQ 00:40, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Actually on second thought, seems to be bug in AFD Helper rather.

TWINKLE block-warnings

When leaving a blocking notice on a user's talk page, TWINKLE leaves 2 signatures: 1 in the block notice, after the block notice, while there should be only 1: The signature in the block notice. Here's what I'm talking about (please note that I didn't actually block you. :-) ):

You have been temporarily blocked from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for abuse of editing privileges. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text your reason here below. « ANIMUM » 14:48, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

« ANIMUM » 14:48, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Could you configure the twinkle code to omit the signature immediately after the notice? Thanks, « ANIMUM » 14:48, 23 June 2007 (UTC) Can see tomorrow... AzaToth 16:13, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

TW still opens in edit mode

How come though the new TW warning system doesn't require you to be in editing mode, it still opens in editing mode after a revert? I think it's better to open in reading mode to make it easier to see what warnings a user has been given, versus reading raw code. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 18:29, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Havn't dig in the twinklefluff code, so that is at the moment unchanged. AzaToth 18:40, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Twinkle breaks other scripts

Hi AzaToth, the following definitions in morebits.js break other scripts:

  • 710: Array.prototype.uniq = function arrayPrototypeUniq() {
  • 721: Array.prototype.dups = function arrayPrototypeUniq() {

The problem happens when other scripts iterate over all array elements using "for..in" loops while assuming that they are not a function. I have started to fix wikEd, but then decided that it might be easier if you could fix your code. Cacycle 04:06, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Try to have the check for arr.hasOwnProperty(i) in a for( var i in arr ) loop. AzaToth 04:29, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
I could remove dups, but uniq is used. It's a "bug" in some JS implementations that it will iterate over things that shouldn't be iteraded over, for example prototypes. AzaToth 04:32, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Hehe, sometimes my self forgot to add such checks to operations, and then only find it choke in opera for example. (firefox will for example not iterate over such things) AzaToth 04:35, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Firefox and Seamonkey actually do iterate over this and I see no reason why they should not. Please try to make this local to your scripts so that I can remove the bloating checks from wikEd. Thanks, Cacycle 05:03, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Firefox doesn't iterate over it, at least not for me. And either should it iterate over all prototypes, or it shouldn't iterate over any. (Hey, it won't iterate over the toString() protetype) Also, there are plenty more defined prototypes for Array in morebits, see the top. AzaToth 05:45, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
I am using the latest versions of FireFox (2.0.0.4) and SeaMonkey (1.1.2) and in all tested cases of for...in loops over arrays these two properties popup. Internet Explorer 7.0.5730 also iterates over these (as well as some, map, forEach, filter, every, lastIndexOf, indexOf, toSource). You might want to file a Mozilla bug and contact Microsoft, but since these browsers are in use, I suggest that you change your script because it has been breaking other scripts and might introduce unexpected behaviour and difficult to locate bugs in completely unrelated scripts because of its global effects. Cacycle 14:57, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
The problem is that I need to redefine some of the "standard functions" for some browsers, perhaps I have missed something how to handle prototypes, but when I asked I got the suggestion to use following:
for( var i in foo ) {
    if( !foo.hasOwnProperty(i) ) {
         continue;
    }
    //...
}
Many redefines are located at the top in whats called JSL (Java Standard Library) AzaToth 15:12, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
You could always use classical local techniques instead of globally adding custom properties to arrays... Cacycle 04:15, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
That makes ugly code, and I don't like ugly code. I've added a property to the functions that should inhibit iteration over it. AzaToth 13:22, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

TWINKLE problems

Hello, I've just installed TWINKLE, and when you click on 'Compare selected versions' I can see the roll-back options near the top-right of the page. However, they won't activate when selected - i.e. I click on them and nothing happens. It may help you if I say at the bottom-left of the monitor (above 'Start') it says 'Error on page'.

My computer is Windows Vista and I'm using Windows Internet Explorer. Do you know what the problem is? Lradrama 09:32, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

There are no plans for the moment to make twinkle compatible with IE. AzaToth 16:04, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

twinkle with safari

It might be of some interest that Safari 3beta can execute at least some of the scripts. Any hope of including it on the browser list to test against?--Smkolins 15:33, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

As I'm using linux, I cannot personally test against safari, but another must do that for me. AzaToth 16:03, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi

Using Firefox, if a user has no contribs I can't use the ARV button to send a report about them because the ARV button is not present to ARV, UAA, or Sockpuppet. MAJ5 (talk) (contribs) 16:52, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

noinclude for CSD in templates on TW

Hi AzaToth. Can you make it so CSD templates are noincluded when they are placed on a template page? Also, shouldn't CSD T1 put Db-divisive on the page instead of Db-disparage? Thanks, --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 02:35, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

I see no reason for having csd templates inside noinclude (in theory, they should be deleted asap). the other I check tomorrow. AzaToth 02:38, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Because it apparently lists all the pages it's transcluded on in CSD, filling it up with tons of pages if a high use template is nominated. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 02:48, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
That's true, but then again, is it possible to nominate a high-use template for speedy deletion? AzaToth 12:18, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Well, an admin told me it messed up CSD when I nominated a template, and they and I just thought it should be noincluded. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 22:31, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
I can see what I can do, though perhaps a simpler thing would be to change the csd template :) AzaToth 22:51, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

The above named arbitration case, in which you have commented, has been decided. The Arbitration Committee endorses the current indefinite ban on Tajik, and also has banned him for one year should his indefinite ban be lifted. You are also reminded by the Arbitration Committee that "Wikipedia operates by consensus and advised that you may wish to be more responsive to other users' reactions."

You may view the full decision at the case page.
