Names of non-English-speaking universities[edit]

I noticed your move of Ludwigsburg University to University of Education Ludwigsburg, with the edit summary "more appropriate translation". We should not be naming pages in that way, we should follow the policy at Wikipedia:Article titles. That says, for instance, "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources. This includes usage in the sources used as references for the article." (In this case there are no sources used as references, as pointed out by a hatnote.)

I had to face up to this problem not long ago when I created the page Orange College of Breda, about a college with a bewildering variety of names, and I know it's far from easy, but we should at least do a check on the English-language reliable sources, rather than just making a translation. In this case, there certainly are some hits for "University of Education Ludwigsburg", although I think more for "University of Education, Ludwigsburg", which follows the English-language pattern of using commas in a proper noun like this. In many cases, the common name in English is easy to find, and rather often it does not translate the name in the foreign language. Moonraker (talk) 05:48, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

@Moonraker: The main reason for my move is the rather important distinction between a "normal" (general) university and specifically a University of Education. I didn't give much thought to the details and alternatives like "University of Education, Ludwigsburg" or "Ludwigsburg University of Education". I originally based my choice on the University of Education Karlsruhe article — which I have now also moved to better reflect their self-declared English name. BegbertBiggs (talk) - de 13:12, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
Okay, but the principle of "ab uno disce omnes" can't really be applied in this context. I found and added some reliable English-language sources for the page, and as they were using Ludwigsburg University of Education I moved it to that. Moonraker (talk) 01:02, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Could you please respond in your talk page — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.176.46.191 (talk) 18:18, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

FLC stands for Featured List Candidate. This means that it is going through the process of becoming a featured list on Wikipedia. As part of that process, a bunch of changes were made by myself and others. Here is the discussion page, you can leave comments there if you like. BegbertBiggs (talk) 12:50, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

SAATM[edit]

Hi --

I noticed that User:BegbertBiggs/SAATM is a draft for an article on the Single African Air Transport Market. It's obviously not complete, but looks sufficient to be an article now. power~enwiki (π, ν) 02:06, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi power~enwiki – thank you for considering my draft worthy of being an article, and I like that you created Yamoussoukro Decision. I prefer work on my article a little bit more and especially add some prose, rather than publishing a stub right away. It won't take long though! BegbertBiggs (talk) 15:59, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
