Translation

Hey Bermicourt. I was wondering if you could transwiki this? Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:52, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Haha, I wish I lived out there. I visited the place a while back. Then when I saw the one liner and the article on German wiki I was astounded. The German wiki articles on Majorca are ten times better than ours are. If you can take care of Arta I'll translate the huge article on Calvià from Spanish wiki! So far I've only translated up to the beginning of goegraphy!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:10, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

That's a good start, look forward to seeing the end result! Dr. Blofeld White cat 08:56, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Wonderful work as was to be expected! Nicely done. Ha you think that was long! Check out Tenerife, Tunis and Culture of Tunisia which I translated!! For some reason German google translate is not very good. Even Russian and Chinese translate better than German. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:54, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

I did some work on this template and it can now be safely substituted. Substituting this template will automagically convert it to {{Infobox building}}, and even perform some coordinate conversion, location map detection, ... It appears to work fairly well based on the six or seven that I substituted. I hope this will help with your translation work. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:05, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Comment. As the author I don't have strong feelings about this. The category is automatically inserted by Template:Lesenswert which generates the 'tag' you can see on the template page. We can take it out. On the other hand it may be a useful admin category to enable translators to identify and work on articles that are rated as 'good' on de.wiki and bring them up to an equivalent standard on en.wiki. So perhaps someone could transfer this into a suitable admin category area and I could start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Germany to determine whether it has utility and what its relationship to {{Link GA|de}} should be. Infobox Ortsteil einer Gemeinde

Hi Bermicourt, if you're planning to add more infoboxes for Ortsteile, like you've been doing for several villages in Lower Saxony, I could help by building a "wrapper" that translates the field names of the German Infobox Ortsteil einer Gemeinde to field names that are used by Infobox German location. See {{Infobox German State}} for example. Otherwise, you should convert the field names manually. Just let me know if you need help. Markussep Talk 11:39, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

[copied] Hi Markussep. I have to confess I'm not sure what you meant. What I do is to copy the German infobox across and just amend the fields that don't seem to work. This is useful because it saves time manually changing stuff. However if this is wrong or there is a better way I'm interested. What I usually try to avoid is having to manually convert all the field names and data into the en.wiki equivalent because that is repetitive, time-consuming work. Some of my other 'German' infoboxes automatically translate the fieldnames and, in some cases, the data too. Gruß. --Bermicourt (talk) 18:58, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
P.S. See "Reviewer" above - I seem to be a reviewer as well but didn't get a fancy notice like you! Do we need to do anything proactive or just approve edits on pages we see e.g. on our watchlist? --Bermicourt (talk) 18:58, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
What you've been doing isn't wrong, just incomplete sometimes. But I think I've got it now. I turned the {{Infobox Ortsteil einer Gemeinde}} into a wrapper for {{Infobox German location}} (it was a redirect). All you have to do is copy the infobox from German wikipedia, add the Kreis, and check if nothing's wrong. I already checked the infoboxes that used Infobox Ortsteil einer Gemeinde until now. I've basically ignored the "reviewer" option, I think it's a test right now. Markussep Talk 19:36, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
I noticed a few recurring mistakes in your recent infobox additions, e.g. Leybuchtpolder. As I wrote above, you don't have to convert it to Infobox German location anymore, simply copying the German infobox as is will work correctly now. If you still like to convert it to Infobox German location, remember to add a field "Town = " or "Municipality = " (town if it's a Stadt, like Norden, municipality if it's a Gemeinde like Krummhörn), and optionally a field "Art = " with "Ortsteil", "village" or whatever you think appropriate (the default value is "suburb", that's a bit strange for a place like Leybuchtpolder). Nice articles BTW! Markussep Talk 08:13, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
You need to use the field names "Lageplan" and "Lageplanbeschreibung". "Karte" is an alternative map instead of the map of Germany, I wouldn't use that. See {{Infobox German location/Instructions}} for more details. Markussep Talk 11:12, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

BahnCard

Hello,

I am wondering what your interest is with changing the warning I placed on Wikipedia for BahnCard?

We are fast growing group of Foreigners that have been caught out by their auto-renewal system in Germany and to date Bahncard have ignored all reasoning and instead insist on the payment through Debt collectors, even from people that have long left the country.

This practice by DB Bahn is unethical and their policies need to be reviewed. We therefore plan to place a lot of pressure on them (and the Government etc) until this is done, or inconvenient auto-renewal of discount cards are no longer allowed in Germany, unless specifically requested.

Unless you are a represtative of Bahncard, I would appreciate you do not get involved. And if you are a representative please review the Policy ASAP and listen to travellers requested to cancel "unwanted and unused auto-renewed" cards!

Thanks for your Understanding,

German Station Infoboxes

Hi Bermicourt. After translating a number of articles about stations in other countries, I have started work on my first article about a German station (Lübeck Hauptbahnhof). However, that job has left me in a bit of a quandary, because there are two possible infoboxes available (Template:Infobox DB station and Template:Infobox Bahnhof). On the one hand, I much prefer the look of the former, and it also has an hcard function. On the other hand, the latter covers a lot more data, at least at the moment.

I understand that the latter is a mirror of its de.wikipedia counterpart, and was created mainly to facilitate translations. Thus, I wonder whether the solution to my dilemma might be to edit "DB station" significantly (to expand the range of data it covers), and then have a go at creating, for "Bahnhof", either a "wrapper" (as has been done for Template:Infobox Ortsteil einer Gemeinde), or a "translation template" (as has been suggested for Template:Infobox Bundesstrasse), so as to adapt its data for use in "DB station". Going down that path would seem to be consistent with what appears to be the temporary purpose of "Bahnhof", at least when used in en.wikipedia. What do you think? Railway gauge categories

Re the addition of the 750mm and 760mm gauge categories, I've clarified the situation at Category:Two foot six inch gauge railways. You will need to bear in mind that other categories using imperial measurements will need similarly clarifying. That way, all articles can be seen to be in the correct category and avoid the repeated addition/deletion of cats from articles. Mjroots (talk) 06:48, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Suggest that it may be better to hang fire for now. Need to hear what the objector thinks of what I said at WT:TWP. I'm sure that the issues can be worked through. Mjroots (talk) 21:19, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

reply

I have not reverted anything, I have just added back 2'6" cats. The proposal was not discussed on the Cat page, and the Cats are broad so that we don't end up with an infinite range of cats, rather so people could compare railways that were "alike" in gauge. In the case of 750/760/2'6" they are so close that equipment can be interchanged between the gauges without re gauging, and a 750mm gauge railway would be much more than 2'6" gauge on any reasonably tight curve. With 760/2'6" there is only 2mm difference, I'd like to see a track laying crew that worked to that tolerance! --Michael Johnson (talk) 06:49, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Your Translation Offer

Hello!

I just noticed your generous offer to help translate mountaineering related articles from German to English, and wanted to thank you. I have to leave for work now so can't go into a lot of detail, but maybe you could take a look at Reinhold Messner, which is already tagged as needing expansion based on the German article. That would be a great place to start as he is considered by many to be the greatest mountaineer in the history of the sport. I haven't had time to look at the German article, but perhaps you could give me an opinion of what would be involved in incorporating content into the English article. Marble

Thanks, I honestly think it is the best way to improve wikipedia working in twos or threes. Because you add what you can or feel like adding and then other people can build on it/translate information which you can't without the workload being too great and you end up with a much more comprehensive article than if you'd written it alone. And a wide range of articles keeps it interesting.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:24, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

German town categories deletion for discussion

Of course, my vote is not an "unchangable judgment" and cfd is for discussion ;-) . The situation may change in a procedure and i'm following that categories day by day. I would also remark that my operations were not a prejudice againist your works or the towns, of course :-) . On the contrary, I've added some pages and subcategories (as this) in other categories created by you to avoid the WP:CFD. My reasons for little towns with very few articles (1 or 3...) could be resumed saying that it's better (IMHO) starting first with cities (ex.: Solingen) and with a sufficient number of pages. To create a category for a place it is not a strict national hierarchy to follow but it is better to find before a sufficient number of voices. I hope to help you in the remaining categories in CFD. Thanks for that you've sayed to me, expecially "This is Wiki cooperation at its best". I've appriceated it a lot, really. Best of regards and Gruß. --Dэя-Бøяg 21:26, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Boroughs: I've understood and, for exemple, we can talk about the metropolitan borough of Luton, refered to the city. I can give you an exemple reguarding the municipalities of Burkina Faso, named as districts. Of course, it makes sense for me but this is used principally for British places refering to their official status. Reguarding Germany, en.wp use the forme "Cities" (Kreisfreie Städte and Std. with more than 100,000 inhabitants), Towns (Kreisfreie Städte and Std. with lesser than 100,000 inh.), Municipalities (Gemeinde) and Villages (Ortsteile intended as "villages" and not city districts proper). Boroughs and/or districts are refered to the Bezirke of the cities. This is the structural situation i've found on infoboxes, categories and other stuff and I've followed it because, I think, it was the common decision, after discussions, of the founding members of the WikiProject Germany, years ago. Or because it is considered the better way that English native speakers (and I'm not) use to understand the meaning of subdivisions for other countries as Germany. I dunno, i'm only a 3 years old registered user and this is an academic issue too much greater than me. It reguards various Wikipedia standards, language knowledges and WikiProject decisions out of my range ;-D as singular user. But i think... Feel free to use this terms on the pages you create, remembering to explain when necessary (ex.: sometimes the borough -as town- should be confused with the Landkreis). Ask to the WikiProjects or to their refering admins. The corrections i've done were done to follow the standards i've found years ago. Sometimes i don't like this standard, but... Some exemples: 1) The suggestion (opened by me) to rename Halle, Saxony-Anhalt in Halle (Saale) (a most logical disambiguation, IMHO) was rejected in a poll. The maximus I can do is to prepare very valid, clear and understandable reasons and open another movereq in the future. 2) Creating a page for a not-ambiguous Canadian municipality, i've decided the form "Municipality, Ontario" for the title, using the simple title as redirect. Personally I don't like comas in place names, more if they aren't ambiguous. But it is a strict policy adopted for municipal names (ambiguous or not) in North America (excluding metropolis and similar). Regards, sorry for this big edit. I suffer of logorrhoea ;-DDD --Dэя-Бøяg 20:02, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
