Welcome to the Teahouse!

Hi Bramble! Thank you for signing up to be a future host at the Teahouse. Well, great news - the future is here: we'd love you to be a Teahouse host! Teahouse hosts do more than just answer questions. A few things we'd love to see you do as a Teahouse host:

  • First, declare your Hostness! Add yourself to the Host page! This page is where new editors and your fellow hosts can learn about you and get in touch with you easily if needed. By signing up here you declare that you know how to serve up a great cup of tea. Add yourself here.
Teacup2.svg
  • Invite new users with our invite guide. Please invite new users to the Teahouse! At that guide you'll find some tips on how to invite. It's super important; we have plenty of Wikipedians answering questions, but not enough asking the questions!
  • Visit the tips page. The tips page provides you some basic tips on how to engage with visitors at the Teahouse. We have a special way of doing things - unlike other areas of Wikipedia! (Such as greeting new editors with a simple "Hi!" and being as easy to understand and friendly as possible.)
  • Join the conversation by participating on the host lounge talk pages. We also have an IRC channel now for hosts to get to know one another, develop your skills, and eventually the channel will serve as an additional help space for new editors!
  • Participate in developing the Teahouse further by getting involved in phase two. Learn more here.

I'm so happy that you volunteered to lend a hand at the Teahouse. I look forward to following your contributions and invitations, and your assistance in making the Teahouse a great and warm place for new Wikipedians. See you there :) Sarah (talk) 18:00, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

The Tea Leaf - Issue Five

Stop by for a tasty glass of wiki-iced tea at the Teahouse, today!

Hi! Welcome to the fifth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

  • Guest activity increased in July. Questions are up from an average of 36 per week in June to 43 per week in July, and guest profile creation has also increased. This is likely a result of the automatic invite experiments we started near the end of month, which seeks to lessen the burden on hosts and other volunteer who manually invite editors. During the last week of July, questions doubled in the Teahouse! (But don't let that deter you from inviting editors to the Teahouse, please, there are still lots of new editors who haven't found Teahouse yet.)
  • More Teahouse hosts than ever. We had 12 new hosts sign up to participate at the Teahouse! We now have 35 hosts volunteering at the Teahouse. Feel free to stop by and see them all here.
  • Phase two update: Host sprint. In August, the Teahouse team plans to improve the host experience by developing a simpler new-host creation process, a better way of surfacing active hosts, and a host lounge renovation. Take a look at the plan and weigh in here.
  • New Teahouse guest barnstar is awarded to first recipient: Charlie Inks. Using the Teahouse barnstar designed by Heatherawalls, hosts hajatvrc and Ryan Vesey created the new Teahouse Guest Barnstar. The first recipient is Charlie Inks, for her boldness in asking questions at the Teahouse. Check out the award in action here.
  • Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania! The Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania this past month, where editor retention and interface design was heavily discussed. Sarah and Jonathan presented the Teahouse during the Wikimedia Fellowships panel. Slides can be viewed here. A lunch was also held at Wikimania for Teahouse hosts.

As always, thanks for supporting the Teahouse project! Stop by and visit us today!

Hey. I made some new changes to your page:}heh heh. But I thought it was nessascary. If you'd like to change it please tell me. I'd like to know why. And I changed the UNDERWORLD part in the RA IN THE UNDERWORLD because it was nessassary. Most religions or beliefs think of the underworld as a place for the dead. Yeah I just realized that I don't understand alot of what they're saying. But it makes sence since I am still at the verge of learning. I just started my interest in anctient Greece and Egypt this year. Mostly this summer. I'm reading books right now about the great king Tutankhamun. So I might not be able to do much at the moment. Face Off (season 3)

Rod Maxwell's hand injury has, so far, had no impact on the scoring or outcome of the competition. It is therefore not important to note as much as Joe Castro's removal from season 3 or models having bad reactions to make-up that were so prevalent in season 2.—Ryulong (琉竜) 22:01, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

So far as I see it, only the season 2 problems in episodes 3 and 6 had any impact, 3 because Brea had to receive a new model, and 6 because the model was unrelated. I see no issue with the episode 4 reaction, as the only thing that happened was that the model left after judging. Brambleberry of RiverClanmeow 22:39, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

The Tea Leaf - Issue Six

Hi! Welcome to the sixth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

  • Teahouse serves over 700 new editors in six months on Wikipedia! Since February 27, 741 new editors have participated at the Teahouse. The Q&A board and the guest intro pages are more active than ever.
A lovely little teahouse nestled in Germany from Wiki Loves Monuments
  • Automatic invites are doing the trick: 50% more new editors visiting each week. Ever since HostBot's automated invite trial phase began we've seen a boost in new editor participation. Automating a baseline set of invitations also allows Teahouse hosts to focus on serving hot cups of help to guests, instead of spending countless hours inviting.
  • Guests to the Teahouse continue to edit more & interact more with other community members than non-Teahouse guests according to six month metrics. Teahouse guests make more than twice the article edits and edit more talk pages than other new editors.
  • New host process implemented which encourages anyone to get started as a Teahouse host in a few easy steps. Stop by the hosts page and become a Teahouse host today!
  • Host lounge renovations nearing completion. Working closely with Teahouse hosts, we've made some major renovations to the Teahouse Host Lounge - the main hangout and resource space for hosts. Learn more about the improvements here.

Adopt-a-user

Presa de decissions.png

Hi Brambleberry of RiverClan. I'm leaving you this message because you have previously been involved as an adopter with Wikipedia's Adopt-a-user program. A clean-up of this program is currently underway, and as part of the process I am trying to find out who is and isn't still interested in remaining an adopter.

If you would prefer not to be part of the adoption program anymore, you need do nothing; when the overhaul of the project is completed your name will be removed from the list of active adopters. However, if you have current adoptees, an active adoption school or an interest in adopting in the near future, then please let us know by signing here.

If you want to remain in the project and can currently take on more adoptees, there is a serious backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user; it would be enormously helpful if you could take on one or two of the users there. Please do keep an eye on the project for upcoming changes, we could use your opinions and your help! Yunshui  09:27, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Brambleberry of RiverClan. Thanks for agreeing to stay on at Adopt-a-user. I've recently updated the list of adopters and I have included you, per your original comments on that page and your comments at User:Yunshui/Overhaul/Adopters staying on. You can see your new profile at the list of adopters. Why not update your profile with an image and maybe have another look at your description? You can also include a list of any adoptees you currently have. If you are also willing to mentor problematic users, possibly as part of a conditional unblock, please include "mentorship=yes" in your profile. Thanks again for all your help. WormTT(talk) 13:38, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi Brambleberry. Thanks for your continued interest in the Adopt-a-user program, and for offering to adopt User:Math guarizo. One small note; when you offer adoption, please change the template on the editor's userpage from {{Adopt me}} to {{Adopt offer}} (if they take you up on the offer, change it again to {{Adopted}}). This ensures that potential adoptees are categorised correctly, and helps reduce the backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user. Good luck with your adoption work! Cat Sìth / King of the Cats

Hi, I noticed your edits to The King of the Cats and Cat Sìth. Do you have any sources that connect the two, other than the illustration by Batten? --xensyriaT 13:19, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

P.S. Regarding your edits to the first article, I'd deliberately not included names (such as Tim Toldrum) in the plot summary, as these names vary between versions, and are not present at all in others.

In the Chinese Cat Sìth article, it mentions the story. Brambleberry of RiverClanmeow 20:46, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

New Wikipedia movie

Apparently, Whoop Whoop pull up has created another chapter in this great series Here. I think we should start working as soon as I write the last chapter in the fifth movie.

Another thing, we may need some more editors on the movie team. Maybe we can put out an "ad" somewhere. We might get another writer, and at the same time publicize the movies, which I think deserve more attention. Thoughts? Thekillerpenguin (talk) 02:03, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I saw it and fixed some formatting errors. Maybe we should create a Wikipedia ad for it and put it on our user pages. I do not have the skill to create one, but if none of us (me, you, and Whoop whoop pull up) knows now, we could ask somebody who created one before. I've been adopted!

Hi, Brambleberry, very pleased to meet you. How fortunate I am that you share so many interests! In fact, I am currently reading "Cujo" and just finished Sheri Tepper's "The Companions," both about animal aggression, so I read your article with enjoyment. It's very well done! As soon as you teach me about Barnstars, I'll shoot one over to you.

  • In that article, would it be appropriate to mention that a film was made about the Tsavo Man-Eaters, "The Ghost and the Darkness"?
  • When I read the line "Bear attacks are rare, but commonplace enough to cause people living in bear habitats to become weary," I thought, "Jaded old bastard!" No, I didn't. :) But "wary", right?
  • I have another reason to refer to Robert Sullivan's book "Rats: Observations on the History and Habitat of the City's Most Unwanted Inhabitants" later on, and I'll see if there's anything applicable there.

While I'm looking for a new job, I have plenty of time to learn. I figure I'll start by making edits, but there are several books and stories I'd like to contribute. In general, does a literary work need to have won awards, or be taught in the classroom, or something similar, to earn inclusion? If it's been discussed and reviewed, is that enough? I've read that we should avoid citing blogs, as they are not solid sources, but some blogs are written by folks who clearly know their subject. (Granted, fanfiction is also written by folks who know their subject.) During the summer, when I read just about every page on WP guidelines, I was reminded by the Mr. Fox adjuration, "be bold, but not too bold."

Where can I find the pages of articles under review?

How do I insert images, as of book cover art?

Those are enough questions to begin, but please explain something that has driven me crazy! On my contributions page, there are several occurrences of (top) in bold print. What does this mean?

Thanks very much, I'm sure we'll be good friends! OcelotHod (talk) 09:10, 5 October 2012 (UTC) OcelotHod

I am sending you a link to your classroom on your talk page. You will receive it soon, and all your questions will be answered.
(P.S. Cujo is one of my favorite King novels.) Brambleberry of RiverClanmeow 21:11, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
I'm delighted! Thanks! I'll gallop over there right now. OcelotHod (talk) 11:10, 6 October 2012 (UTC) OcelotHod

OcelotHod again

Thanks again! I just looked at "Calexico!" and my next question is, did you add the "unreferenced" note yourself? Because the Revision History mentions other names, so though I think I wouldn't add an article that didn't already have Sources, I'd like to know.

And should I not be writing you here, but over at my Schoolhouse? Forgive me, I have a lot to learn! OcelotHod (talk) 11:48, 6 October 2012 (UTC) OcelotHod

This response will have to do for everyone who asked the same question - why did I not answer question 4? Well actually there were two question 4's and I did answer both of them as soon as I saw them. If you look at the page history you will see some other answers that got deleted as well. If you still have any questions, let me know (here). Apteva (talk) 01:23, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Non-admin close

Hey, I closed your AFD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2013 NLL season as a non-admin close. I figured you wouldn't object (given you withdrew your nomination) but wouldn't like to non-admin close something without at least letting you know. Cheers, Stalwart111 (talk) 00:18, 9 October 2012 (UTC).

Okay, thank you. I didn't know that there could be a non-admin close. Brambleberry of RiverClanmeow 20:47, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, for select non-controversial cases, by an uninvolved user. You were really the only "involved" user so that made it easy. Just easier than waiting for an admin to close a speedy keep / withdrawal. Cheers! Stalwart111 (talk) 23:34, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
