Tour de France News Item Change[edit]

As far as I know, Floyd Landis won't officially be disqualified until after all appeals have been exhausted and so it probably isn't entirely correct to say Oscar Pereiro Sio is the winner of the 2006 Tour de France. -- tariqabjotu (joturner) 15:34, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Response[edit]

If you would have read the entire subpage of the Muybridge nomination, you would have found a written agreement by myself to independently nominate the two within 24 hours, in hopes of finding a counter-solution to the current chaos. Times not up. Whether intentional or not, I would hope in future circumstances of this sort, that you would examine the discussion more carefully. In order to prevent further eccentricity by some users, I will not, respectively, counter your actions. You wrote there was no such thing as replacement. It was exercised when the monopoly board image was nominated for replacement, and no person presented complaint. And due to your large, bolded text, I suppose you would be most interested in the future outcome of situations such as this. A line must be drawn between nominating for replacement images of exact representation/similarity and images that are completely similar but represent different genres. The third option being replacements are automatically forbidden and a permanent notice is present on the FPC Nominations page. Due to the upheaval of the current replacement, I propose the third. What do you think? -- AJ24 19:58, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Reply[edit]

Yes, I now agree. But with the current situation in mind, should replacements be banned entirely? -- AJ24 20:11, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Thank you, I will do just that. -- AJ24 20:43, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Featuring in DYK[edit]

Hi, may I ask you to comment on Talk:Battle of Khaybar, where an editor is trying to remove a DYK notice from the talk page? He argues that the article was listed in Did you know in error because it was unstubbed rather than started shortly before being featured. Pecher Talk 06:28, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Re [1]; "...simply because removing that notice makes no sense"; well it may makes no sense to you or to some people, but definitely not to two experienced editors there (actually two and a half). But if the result of this in your view is that "it makes no sense" as an objective reality, then I can guess why that phrase was repeated twice in your comment. --Aminz 10:19, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Battle of Khaybar[edit]

Hi Brian. In response to your intervention over talk:Battle of Khaybar:

  • The article in question is a highly contentious one involving disputes over historical fact and interpretation
  • The article was neither new nor recently "unstubbed"; see for example this version from three months prior to the DYK listing
  • The DYK extract which appeared on the main page included a controversial claim not supported by consensus
  • The editor who has involved you in this dispute is a notorious edit warrior who was 24-hour blocked for 3RR only yesterday
  • The listing was neither innocent nor really "an error"; it was, in fact, a calculated piece of POV-pushing by partisan editors
  • Given the DYK listing was not legitimate, retaining the DYK notice serves only to reward these wiki-gamers, and to encourage them

I hope you're now able to see why retaining the notice on that page is not in the interests of the project. — JEREMY 16:10, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

I responded on the talk page. Pecher Talk 20:40, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Photographer's barnstar[edit]

Oooh. Thank you very much for the barnstar. I, actually, didn't expect anything (I can do better photos than that - http://flickr.com/photos/dungodung/), so this came as a surprise for me. This is the first barnstart here for me, so I'm quite glad :D Cheers --Filip (§) 22:13, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

New Talk main page footer[edit]

Hey Brian, do you think anyone will see the links at the bottom? I'm not convinced of their utility. Although they certainly do no harm. --Monotonehell 16:01, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Could be could be... heh. Maybe the problem is that they are off to the side. I've been playing with redesigns of that header for weeks now. I still haven't hit on an uncluttered design that I think works. --Monotonehell 16:26, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I like that idea.... --Monotonehell 16:33, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Okay I sat down and worked solidly at my concept for the header for a couple of hours. I finally hit on a format that I'm able to present for comment. If I get a chance, I'll also have a look at the monobk.js to see if I can work out some way to put your footer on. --Monotonehell 16:38, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Islamic Wikiproject Award[edit]

Would you be so kind as to go to the discussion about the Islamic Wikiproject Award? This has been a proposal that has lingered for donkey's yonks. I think the image is acceptable as a WP:PUA, but don't think the image is in line with most of the images at Wikipedia:Wikiproject awards. The design is not well supported, and right before I was going to archive the debate for lack of support, someone else moved it to the Wikiproject awards page.

The current discussion is going on here: Wikipedia:Barnstar_and_award_proposals/New_Proposals#Another_image. Your input is appreciated. --evrik 10:48, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

I think you should check this out.[edit]

BTP[edit]

Talk:Boston Tea Party[edit]

Howdy, I noticed that you and I seem to post in one or two articles dealing with progressive issues in political science/sociology. There's currently a debate beginning in Boston Tea Party as to whether the article should include the category [2]. It meets definitions set in the articles Terrorism and Definition of terrorism, however, there are several self-proclaimed patriots who watch BTP who refuse to recognise the fact. The simple criteria for terrorism generally seem to be intimidation or destruction of property in order to change public policy or public opinion while a state of war has not yet been declared. Some users would rather use recent acts of terrorism as a yardstick, rather than using a firm definition, and hence lose their ability to discuss matters calmly. Would you be able to pop in to the Talk page and join in the discussion? Thanks much, samwaltz 05:08, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Your opinion is needed[edit]

Hello! I hope you are feeling great. I would like you to analyze the discussion here and need your comments about the current situation on the talk page. Your comments would be highly regarded! Thank you for your kind patience and understanding. --Siva1979Talk to me 02:13, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

You edited my comments without my permission[edit]

How dare you!! Who do you think you are!! You insert your comments into my comments, cross out part of what I wrote, cross though part of my header (!!) and tell me I can't start a poll on a talk page. FYI, the issue had been extensively discussed above on the talk page (including by you), I was merely trying to focus the discussion. HOW DARE YOU!!

I expect an apology to me to be your next contribution.

Did you create Image:ADN animation.gif? Or is it taken from the French wiki? I'm gonna put it on Portal:Medicine/Selected picture but I want a photo credit. Please reply on my talk page.--Steven Fruitsmaak (Talk) 17:10, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

upbrixle[edit]

I have searched and searched the web for the meaning of this word and the only place it comes up is here, by any chance do you know what it means? as i am a member of a quiztelly forum and its driving us all mad!!!!

Thanks

Sorry...[edit]

...for reverting your edit to the Signpost article. I explained my reversion in a subsequent edit, which you may or may not have seen. Nevertheless, you are probably right. I was only going by previous issues of the Signpost, which have each indicated the page that they are listed on, regardless of how accurate a different description may be. Sorry about that, just another Signpost n00b mistake. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka Talk to me! 23:34, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Eh, I'll just leave the description as is. "Sun" is a bit misleading, I agree. So I'll leave it as it is. Sorry about the confusion! If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka Talk to me! 23:56, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

arrested developement talk.[edit]

Hello. Never had anything much to do with wikipedia before, except as a reader. Was just looking at the Arrested Developement Talk page and noticed there are TWO "Bush comparison" sections. I'm guessing it's an editing error, but may be intentional. Figured I'd point it out to someone and found your name first as having something to do with the page. Would send email, but need to register/log in first so this seems to be the only recourse available. Still I hesitate to add something to this 'page', but I guess you can always delete it... right? Dan.

Dominickers (ethnic group)[edit]

Brian, thanks much for adding the section headers! I'm new and still feeling my way through all the ways & means of formatting. But as the article has grown in length, I was already thinking about dividing it into sections; you've made that little task easier for me now, and I appreciate your help.

BTW, I do think it may be a point not worth quibbling over, the use of "today's" vs. "modern American" standards. If you will go read the two short typescript accounts, reproduced verbatim at source #3 in my list, I think you might agree with me that the nasty, vicious attitude displayed there would indeed be considered racist *anywhere* on any continent in "today's" world, not only in America. Go check them out and let me know what you think.

Thanks again for the help, though. Textorus 20:48, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Microwaving DVD-Rs[edit]

Okay, I have a pretty lame question based on the image you made which is on the fractal page. You mentioned a minor lightning storm and smoke. Do you think I could get away with doing this in my dorm or is either action too major to keep a fire alarm from going off? Thanks. Amphytrite 00:54, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Yet More Eurovision... (from Main Page talk)[edit]

The issue is that right now every nomination at DYK conforming to the guidelines is accepted and displayed on the main page, with no discretion on the part of the admins. This means that every single eligible Eurovision article gets featured on the main page eventually. So adding more articles on other subjects is not a useful way to reduce the number of the DYKs on a single repetitive subject appearing on the front page. What is needed is less frequent updating of DYK, which will allow admins to exercise more discretion in choosing from among the submissions and allow for more variety. Image:Solvay conference 1927.jpg[edit]

I would like you to take a careful look at the picture of the 1927 Solvay Conference you can find on Københavnerfortolkningen - Pressemateriale, and compare that to the picture you uploaded to Commons a while back, Image:Solvay conference 1927.jpg. To me it looks like that it is a different shot taken during the same photo session; people are in a slightly different position compared to the Commons picture. Not only that, to me it looks like that it is even sharper than the one you uploaded to Commons. I don't know what to do with it; I am hesitant to upload it to Commons, because I have my doubt wrt copyright status. The website states "Billederne herunder kan frit benyttes af pressen.", which I think means something like "the pictures below can be freely used in print", but my knowledge of Danish is not what it should be :-) JdH 21:41, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Re Translation[edit]

Hi there, Brian. I've already done the translation and posted it (here). I hope it helps with the article. Cheers, Redux 03:04, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
