To develop your article for this assignment, please set up a dedicated user subpage for it and save the link on your main userpage. You would do this by creating a name consisting of a backslash followed by the proposed article title (or "Draft" or any text). It should be coded like this: [[/Article title]]. Click on that link to create the new subpage, which will be created at User:Student username/Article title. You can then add some text, save it, and then continue.

Caveman Diet?

[edit]

Hi Brigid! I think your question about a "caveman diet" would depend on which cave people you mean. Ancient humans lived in caves in a wide variety of different habitats in many different geographic regions at different times, from China to Iraq to France to Mexico to Peru and elsewhere. They ate different specific things, which had more to do with hunter/gatherer lifestyles than living in caves. Is there an entry on "the caveman diet"? Some critical thinking about what it really represents would be in order. That is, does "the caveman diet" represent good archaeological interpretation or gimmicky sale hype? (Or a combination of both?) Hoopes (talk) 23:48, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Epigraphic Society

[edit]

Yes, Brigid. An entry on the Epigraphic Society would be good. The main website is http://www.epigraphy.org/ Be sure to review the entry on Barry Fell, who founded it. You will also want to look at some of their publications. To help keep it in perspective, pay attention to the critiques of Fell's research and its legacy. Image help

[edit]
Dowsing rods

was created with the two open brackets, followed by File: and the name of the image from wikicommons, then pipe "|" size, then pipe alignment, then pipe caption, finally closing brackets. But if you don't care to be fancy, just find the image you want on wikicommons' file name, put your cursor in the heading you want the image and click the picture icon above the edit window (fourth from the left), then type the file name where the example.jpg is and you're good to go. for example:

[[File:Compara planetas enanos.jpg|thumb]] creates the image of Eris and her sister dwarfs below

I hope that helps. LeviK3a (talk) 14:02, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some comments on your userspace article

[edit]

As we already have an article on Barry Fell, we don't need much if any general information about him, so where this article mentions him the focus needs to be on his contributions to the society. On a Manual of Style (MOS) point, he should be referred to just by his surname. I think you can use this source [1] to explain why Fell founded the ES. Please be careful that your article doesn't appear to be advertising the society, eg the bit about ordering articles, etc doesn't really belong in an encyclopedia, and this is an encyclopedia, so details about ordering articles, submitting articles, etc aren't appropriate (and can be found on the website also). You might want to mention the change in publication frequency for ESOP. I don't think you can find any reliable sources we can use for the arguments and rancor over the past few years though. Be sure to pay attention to these comments and also to look at the ones I've posted on the talk page for your specific entry. It's especially important to look at primary sources! Hoopes (talk) 21:20, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
