How to use red links

When a link in Wikipedia leads to nowhere, it is displayed in red to alert our editors that it requires attention. A red link can mean one of two things:

  1. The link is broken and no longer leads to an article (perhaps because the underlying article was deleted). In such a case, the link needs to be removed or renamed to point to an existing article.
  2. A new article is needed. When a Wikipedian writes an article, it is common practice to linkify key topics pertinent to an understanding of the subject, even if those topics don't have an article on Wikipedia yet. This has two applications:
    1. From within an article, such a link prepares the article to be fully supported. At any time, a Wikipedian may independently write an article on the linked-to subject, and when this happens, there's already a link ready and waiting for it. The red link also gives readers the opportunity to click on it to create the needed article on the spot.
    2. In topic lists, it is useful to include every topic on the subject you can possibly find or think of. When they are turned into links, the list immediately shows where the gaps in Wikipedia's coverage for that subject are, since all of the topics missing articles will show up in red. Such lists are useful tools in developing subject areas on Wikipedia, as they show where work is needed most.

Ntmsm69 Good day. Any added or modified content must be substantiated by an independent and reliable published source, specifically a secondary source, such as those from major newspapers or books, in accordance with Wikipedia's core policy of verification. Sources derived from social media, organizational websites, educational institutions, government entities, foundations, and private companies are generally deemed unreliable and/or not independent. In contrast, materials published by "major" newspapers and "reputable" books are typically considered reliable sources. To add the inline citation, please use the "horizontal format" of Template:Cite web. Only important records are to be add but not all of them. Btw, you have a conflict of interest (COI) to edit Mollie O'Callaghan page, so need to WP:DISCLOSE your COI on the article talk page and your user page prior edit on O'Callaghan page. Regards. UFC BJJ

[edit]

Hi Cassiopeia, I was wondering if you might be able to go back into the deletion log and bring back the UFC BJJ article I created. You can bring it back with the rules section deleted (which was the copyright issue) and I will rewrite the rules in my own words so we can have the article back and created. Please let me know, thanks. GOAT Bones231012 (talk) 20:04, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Sphilbrick and GOAT Bones231012: Good day. Please contact User:Sphilbrick, who is included in this message, to retrieve the initial copy of your deleted article. Once you have it, please develop the article in the "draft" space. Stay safe and regards. Cassiopeia talk 22:23, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
GOAT Bones231012 I can email it to you, but I don't see that you have email enabled. S Philbrick(Talk) 00:42, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Sphilbrick Thanks for getting back to me. Is it possible you can just paste it to my user talk page? GOAT Bones231012 (talk) 03:23, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
GOAT Bones231012 User talk page is designed for communication among the editors and not to house article content. It is better for you to provide you email address and in the unfortunate event that you forgot your password, you can reset your password if you have your email address in your preferences page (click on the "human icon" on top right of the page and chose "Preferences" and go to "Email options". Once you have provided you email address, check on "Send password reset emails only when both email address and username are provided" and "Allow other users to email me".
As for creating a draft page - pls go to Wikipedia:Drafts. Regards. Cassiopeia talk 03:44, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Cassiopeia explained one reason why I cannot copy it to your talk page. A second reason is that material is copyrighted and are not going to create a copyright violation. I realize I could comb through the material and remove the copyrighted parts but that's not a reasonable request. Sending it to you via email means it isn't posted in a public place such as the talk page. It's very easy to go to preferences and turn on your email option. This will not provide me with your email address it creates a way that I can drop some text and it will be sent to you without me knowing your email address if that's a concern. S Philbrick(Talk) 12:21, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sphilbrick  Done I’ll be on the lookout for your email. GOAT Bones231012 (talk) 14:20, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done, good luck. S Philbrick(Talk) 01:03, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you my good sir 🙏 GOAT Bones231012 (talk) 01:21, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Arthur10167 (23:24, 8 July 2025)

[edit]

Hey! If you could just let me know, im new to editing and have grown up as a dinosaur fan and fan of other media, but one of the biggest youtubers in my space is TheGamingBeaver, he has over 4 million subscribers and 2+ Billion Views. He is th biggest dinosaur/Kaiju game/Movie youtuber out there really, and has made a huge impact in the space. I was wondering if a wiki would be alright to be made for him? I have a near draft ready but with a lot of issues (as like I said im very new to editing lol) but I feel like he deserves it. Even if its a small Wikipedia page. Thank you for your time. --Arthur10167 (talk) 23:24, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Arthur10167 Good day. In order for a subject to warrant a page in the main space of Wikipedia, it must fulfill the criteria outlined in the Wikipedia guideline on notability, specifically the General Notability Guideline (WP:GNG).
GNG is defined as the subject must fulfill specific criteria to demonstrate significant coverage from independent and reliable sources. These sources should provide in-depth discussions about the subject rather than merely offering passing mentions. This requirement is essential for verification, which is a core policy of Wikipedia. If a source is affiliated/associated/connected with the subject—such as the subject's marketing team, company, social media platforms, information in interviews of the subject or any self-published information—this indicates a lack of independence. Consequently, such sources cannot be utilized to satisfy the notability guidelines. Sources originating from educational institutions, government entities, foundations, social media platforms, and private companies are regarded as unreliable. In contrast, materials published by "major" newspapers and "reputable" books are typically considered reliable sources. I recommend that you read WP:Your first article and adhere to the provided instructions before beginning the creation of an article. I also strongly suggest you to take a short program WP:TWA (30 mins) to understand some of the fundamental Wikipedia guidelines so help you on editing Wikipedia pages. Regards. Question from Group4presention (00:25, 9 July 2025)

[edit]

hello. im new to wikipedia and we are trying to make a page for our group project. may u give us any idea on how to make a wiki page? --Group4presention (talk) 00:25, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Group4presention Good day and thank you for the question. First of all, since you are planning to create an article about your group that means you have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest since you are affiliated/connected/associate with the group. As for you question, see below:

Hey! So I was wondering

[edit]

You said the hangtime youtuber (michael turk) stuff was unsourced, but when you click on the (about) that leads to the youtube bio. It shows everything i listed. So its just a little weird to throw away common sense (like, checking the channel to confirm what i put is factual or when you click on the link thay takes you to the youtube about page) i domt know what kinda source i could've put when it leads directly to what I put. but then again im a new wiki editor, so im just wondering what happened there. Thank you for your time! Arthur10167 (talk) 18:48, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Arthur10167 I had already provide you the info on your talk page prior you wrote me this message above.
