July 2015[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Glen 04:58, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I have received the following block in my talk box. I am a very new contributor as I just set up my account a day ago. I do apologize if I made any inappropriate conduct on the page without knowing it.

On behalf of my company and the expertise that we hold in our professional knowledge, we do want to make helpful input to the Wikipedia page without making any economic gain. To our point of view, such as how to resolved a defect of a pogo pin still remains as unknown to general public. We very much like to publish it so it can be extremely helpful to engineers during product design phase.

I am very confused how I can request an unblock as I’m a new contributor. Is it because of the user name that I use? Will you please advise?

Thanks!

Decline reason:

Pogo pin, as you are aware, is a registered trade mark. It cannot therefore be used as a username. Please choose another name. Note that your username must not contain the name of any company or organization, and need not - indeed, should not - relate to your area of editing interest. Please note the comment below. Hello, noted. We would like to apply for the name Pin Guru and keep on making valuable input. Here's a draft we have in mind for what we would like to put on. Will you please let us know if it's okay?

"Sudden voltage drop due to non-contact remains as the main concern from product designer when considering pogo pins.

Traditional pin design, as the previous contribution on this page suggests, has the spring assembled inside of the plunger. When used in a vibrating environment, there will be happenings of the plunger not touching the barrel and therefore causing a current path breakage. Designers and engineers have come up a way using a bias bottom plunger to improve this scenario.

The side force generated from the bottom plunger will highly decrease the chance of non-contact between the plunger and the barrel. In some extreme instances which more than 3 Amps is required per pin, an extra component such as a ball, can be added to increase the contact points/current paths."

Accounts must be for an individual and not shared. Your use of 'we' sugests this is a shared account, which is not allowed. Consequently, I am declining your request to be unblocked. PhilKnight (talk) 20:19, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Who are "we"? Max Semenik (talk) 08:04, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Actually, Anthony Bradbury is mistaken in saying "your username must not contain the name of any company or organization". Wikipedia's username policy says "usernames are acceptable if they contain a company or group name but are clearly intended to denote an individual person, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", "WidgetFan87", etc." Indeed, my personal view is that for reasons of transparency a name like that is far better than one which does not show the user's connection to a business or organisation.
