Conflict of Interest and moving forward[edit]

Hello. I would just like to inform you that you appear to have a conflict of interest. This is when an editor has a conflict of interest that systematically prevents them from editing Wikipedia neutrally or in an unbiased manner. In this example, it appears that you may have created this account specifically for you/your company to market on Wikipedia. COI editing is very strongly discouraged and scrutinized. Wikipedia is not a platform for promotion of a product, company, person, or anything of the sort. You also mentioned on the userpage that you intend for the userpage to be copyrighted. This is not possible, because under Wikipedia's terms of service, (also mentioned just below the save page button) that you irrevocably release your contributions under CC BY SA 3.0 license. Copyright on your contributions is therefore not possible and is incompatible with what you're intending for. Your username "COAProductions" also implies that this is a corporate or promotional account, which is not allowed so you will need to change your username. Additionally, WMF has specifically required editors to disclose that they are being paid for edits, on your user page preferably. Moving forward, here's what you should do:

What you can't do:

  • Set up a personal hub where your company has your own personal corporate information which others cannot edit.
  • Retain copyright for contributions on Wikipedia.
  • Share Wikipedia accounts.
  • Do full heartedly promotional edits.

If you'd like to read more, please see WP:PLAINANDSIMPLECOI. Tutelary (talk)

Some additional points: As Tutelary said, Wikipedia does not allow corporate or group accounts. Accounts are for individuals only; they are not transferable, and only one person may have access to an account, ever. If several employees want to edit Wikipedia, each of them should create an account of their own. If you want your account to be associated with the company, a username such as "John at COAProductions" would be acceptable.
Regarding copyright, technically you or the company may retain the copyright for your contributions - but they must be irrevocably released under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL, which will allow everybody to re-use and modify your contributions for any purpose, including commercial purposes, when they provide attribution and release any derivative work under a similar license. So it's a pretty hollow copyright you retain.
Furthermore, if you personally are not the copyright holder of the content you contribute, you will have to provide evidence that the content is indeed released under a free license. See WP:Donating copyrighted content for details. Huon (talk) 22:27, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

September 2014[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Beech Grove Shops has been reverted.
Your edit here to Beech Grove Shops was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (http://americana.smugmug.com/Trains/At-The-Grove/) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 21:33, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.
