Protection on translated page[edit]
The problem is explained in my contributions on the status of a translation earlier this evening (26 October 2006).
I can't work out whether I should just go ahead and then immediately apply for page protection, or whether one should not in the first place create pages one knows are going to need protection.CWO 22:33, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- If it's an encyclopedic topic, you should create it. It being protected on the German Wikipedia does not mean it will have to be protected here, but if there is recurrent vandalism, then request protection. Also, the page on the German Wikipedia has been protected since April and there is no evidence of a recurring problem; I don't know the policies there, but it should probably be unprotected. —Centrx→talk • 00:24, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hello. I just noticed your message on the translation board regarding de:Kärntner Slowenen. My advice: go ahead and write the translation! Sure, there was some conflict on de.wiki, but that's the nature of Wikipedia: people argue back and forth until, slowly but surely, a high-quality article is produced. If - and this is uncertain - those disputes move here, I'm sure people will be ready to do battle to protect the truth. But that alone is certainly not reason enough to exlcude this subject from the encyclopedia. So I urge you, if you have the time and motivation, to write it, and if protection turns out to be needed, that will be imposed by an administrator. Biruitorul 08:21, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Martin Krause[edit]
{{helpme}} Having translated the article in de.wiki to make an article in en.wiki, I wrote an invisible comment, which I then decided would be better as visible, i.e. on the article's Talk page. However, when I copied and pasted it, it didn't come out in the usual format (the one this page is in). I'm writing to request some help in transferring it into the usual format, or for someone to do this, though it may be better if someone explains what needs doing, so that I would know how to avoid this problem in the future. Menachem Pressler[edit]
(1) When I searched for Menachem Pressler, all I got was a list of relevant articles with percentages. However, a search in Google produces the Wikipedia article as one of its results on the first page, and the article can be reached through this. (This is not caused by a typo on my part: having had this problem yesterday, I copied and pasted the name from Wikipedia search to Google this time.) (2) When I tried to create a Wikilink to this article from P.'s name in the section on the Jacobs School of Music in the article Indiana University (Bloomington), the preview of changes showed the link as red, not blue, so I left it. Would somebody please be kind enough to sort this out or give a non-techie who hasn't a clue about templates, tag formats, etc. some simple instructions on how to rectify it?CWO 18:51, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
I kept wondering why so long had elapsed without a reply but, on checking, I found that I had not typed in the "helpme" request correctly, so this appeared without the template. Despite spending about fifteen minutes trying to get the numbering of the Notes correct, I regret I still can't. As explained on the Discussion page and in the Notes, I have added/rectified and amplified the information. The reference shown as [2] in the Notes is in fact the same as [1] in External Links - (the radio interview with Don Swaim), but I can't get this right. If there's somebody out there willing to try to rectify this, or give me (a non-techie) comprehensible instructions on how to rectify it, I'd be very grateful.CWO (talk) 21:22, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- I hope I've fixed it to your satisfaction. The way to create references in Wikipedia articles is explained at great length at WP:REF, but is essentially as follows: in the body of the article, at the point the referenced material is used, insert <ref></ref> tags with details (including links) of the reference between the tags. At the bottom of the page (preferably in a section entitled 'References') add the code <references/>. This will cause everything written bettween <ref></ref> tags anywhere in the article to appear in the references section in numbered order, with clickable footnote links. RE:Pisces and date of birth[edit]
:-) I'm not sure how the algorithm works, but I was actually born on February 20, safely within the Pisces margin. It must assume a birth time of midnight UTC and perhaps it messes up counting leap years. Oh well, it's good to know that it's accurate to within ±2 days! I am trying to add the following text to the article:

- When you name a reference, if the name you give it is two words long, it must be in quotes. For example,
<ref name=deGaule>...is fine, but<ref name=de Gaule>...is not, so you would need to use<ref name="de Gaule">...instead. See WP:REFB for more info on reusing and naming references. A relatively minor point, but I’d be grateful to know how to rectify it, please. This comes from the “Release” section of the article on the film Aftersun.
“Aftersun was distributed in Austria, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Latin America, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom by Mubi and in the United States and Canada by A24.[10][11] It was released in the United States on 21 October 2022 and in the United Kingdom on 18 November 2022.[12][13]

The grave accent is there even on the book cover in English, but this was missing in the article until I rectified it, as shown in my Contributions in early October. I have tried to insert this in the title, but have not succeeded. It evidently requires more knowledge than I have. As explained in a previous edit summary, I wasn't able to change the name given above the jpg. image either, though I suspect that can be done only by the owner of the image.
