Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Witness argument[edit]

Please fix the article rather than adding an NPOV notice. You will get no resistance. I am removing the dispute as incentive for one of us to fix the article. Tom Haws 21:29, Mar 2, 2005 (UTC)

Talk:Historical revisionism[edit]

I wrote the section 'A second common usage of the phrase "historical revisionism"' against considerble opposition from User:Stbalbach. See the sections above yours on the talk page and specifically Talk:Historical revisionism#Mysterious Sources. It explains why I used the Ronald Reagan example. Also look at the history of the article page. If he/she and/or (User:Sam Spade) is still around expect a looooong dispute. Philip Baird Shearer 16:54, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Talk:Mordechai Vanunu[edit]

While pointing out that a user has removed otherwised sourced content is appropriate for talk pages, diatribes about how they are in league with terrorist organizations and should be blocked from Wikipedia are generally considered a violation of Wikipedia:No personal attacks and are not appropriate for article talk pages regardless. If the user in question really believes they have a case for another user's removal they should file a WP:RFC, not rant about it. I've removed the attack rant posted by the anon user, please don't restore it. --Fastfission 11:09, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

Indecent pseudo-photograph of a child[edit]

I was about to remove the NPOV tag at this article, but decided not to after re-reading your comments. If you are knowledgable about these laws, please comment at the article or on my talk page, as I am interested in the points you made. As you can tell from my comments there, the article left me somewhat confused, and I think it needs more clarity regarding fact and opinion (at this point, I'm not really educated enough in the matter to know which is which, but I am going to do some more reading). I am really interested in this, and I would just like to get some more of your take on it. --DanielCD 18:24, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for that response. It is appreciated. --DanielCD 21:21, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Pornsitepage.png)[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Pornsitepage.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigDT 05:06, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Hick rock[edit]

A tag has been placed on Hick rock, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template hangon to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Image:Virgin Killer.jpg[edit]

I noticed that you had written a well thought out defense in support of the image of the Scorpions cover art for the album Virgin Killer some time ago. I wanted to send you a note to let you know that this image has once again been contested and the result was delete. The Administrator has kindly restored the image to allow further debate. Your participation and vote in this discussion would be appreciated.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Adultwebsitewarning.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Adultwebsitewarning.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:12, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Adultwebsitewarning.png[edit]

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Adultwebsitewarning.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 04:48, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of SiSoftware[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on SiSoftware requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Articles for deletion nomination of SiSoftware[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

I have nominated SiSoftware, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/SiSoftware. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Codf1977 (talk) 19:53, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Shrimp Cocktail[edit]

I declined your requested move, because I'm skeptical that it's moving to a common name, rather than moving from British English to American English (which isn't done, unless the topic is somehow specifically American). If you think I'm wrong about that, take up a discussion at Talk:Prawn cocktail. WilyD 17:37, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Richard Foreman/Ontological[edit]

Read your comment on the Ontological theater in the Foreman article; I believe a new page should be made for the theater. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Foreman There should now be a separate article for Ontological-Hysteric Theater/Incubator Arts Project. After Foreman left the theater, the space continued to present work under new management, eventually changing its name to Incubator Arts Project. The Incubator won an Obie and presented several notable and award winning productions, and has been a hub of the downtown community. I would suggest a new page entitled "Incubator Arts Project", with "Ontological-Hysteric Theater" redirecting there, and some of the info in the Foreman article moved to the new page. I'm happy to add content once the pages are formed, but I'm not a veteran editor so can't create the pages. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Richard_Foreman#Comment_moved_from_Talk:Ontological-Hysteric_Theater99.186.43.46 (talk) 17:26, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
