A tag has been placed on WestNet Inc., requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. I appreciate your concerns regarding the article on WestNet Inc. I understand that the initial draft may have come across as promotional, but I am committed to revising and improving the article to ensure it meets Wikipedia's standards.
WestNet Inc. is a notable company with a significant history in the telecommunications industry. It has been involved in pioneering the deployment of Wi-Fi networks in Calgary and played a crucial role during emergencies such as the 2013 Alberta floods by providing essential internet access through their Mobile HotSpot Vehicles. Additionally, in 2020, WestNet Inc. became a major supplier of medical masks during the global pandemic, highlighting its contributions to public health and safety.
I have gathered reliable sources and am currently working on adding comprehensive information to the article, including citations from independent sources to establish the company's notability.
Could you please allow me some time to make the necessary improvements? I am dedicated to ensuring that the article adheres to Wikipedia's guidelines and policies.
Thank you for your understanding. Calgaryleb (talk) 04:49, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on WestNet Wireless requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/WestNet Wireless (2nd nomination). When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

You are trying to promote your own company, which is strictly prohibited. Please stop. We are not your free advertising location. We have inclusion criteria, which requires significant coverage in reliable sources independent of the subject. Consensus at the deletion discussion was that the company is not notable, and therefore the article was deleted. Because you have tried to run around consensus, I have tagged the article for deletion. Being a contributor since 2006 does nothing to help your case: In fact, it actually harms it because longer-term editors are supposed to be more familiar with our policies and guidelines and are therefore held to higher standards. Draftification of WestNet Inc.

[edit]

Information icon Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. A page you recently created, WestNet Inc., may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new pages, so it has been moved to Draft:WestNet Inc. where you can continue to work on it. Please consider using the Article Wizard or the Articles for Creation procedure. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read "Your first article". You may also want to read our introduction page to learn more about contributing. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:02, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator comment)Given all that's been posted above about attempts to create an article about subjects associated with this company, I've draftified this article to allow you more time to work on it and establish the company's Wikipedia notablity per Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). Please note that if you're connected to the company in any thing more than a casual way, you're going to be expected to comply with Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and possibly even Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. The more transparent you're about any connection you might have with the company, the easier it's going to be for others to help you; be aware, though, that non-compliance with Wikipedia's policy on paid-contribution disclosure is a violation of the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use and is considered an immediate blockable offense. So, you should declare any such connection asap as explained here if that particular policy applies to you. If you're not sure, you can always ask at either Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard or Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard. Since you've described your efforts on "WestNet Inc" as a work in progress, continue working on the draft until you think it's ready for to be reviewed and then submit it to Wikipedia:Articles for creation for review. If you move the draft back to the article namespace, there's a really good chance that it will either be tagged for speedy deletion or nominated for deletion (perhaps rather quickly); moreover, there's also a chance that a discussion will be started at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents about you and your attempts to recreate content about anything having to do with WestNet Inc. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:21, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

his page should not be speedily deleted because WestNet Inc. and its divsion WestNet_Wireless has been a substantial contributor to our country's technological advancement and economy for over 25 years. The company has made significant contributions in various fields such as telecommunications, healthcare, finance, and aerospace. Here are some key points illustrating the importance of WestNet:
Technological Innovation:
WestNet was one of the pioneers in deploying Wi-Fi networks in Calgary, partnering with WiLAN (known for their contributions to Wi-Fi technology).
They introduced the WN Wi-Fi Soft-hand Off Protocol, which ensures seamless connectivity for users moving between Wi-Fi zones.
Emergency Response:
During the 2013 Alberta floods, WestNet provided critical internet access through their Mobile HotSpot Vehicles, being the only ISP in the affected parts of Calgary.
Healthcare Contributions:
WestNet Health Services became the largest source of medical masks during the 2020 pandemic, significantly contributing to healthcare logistics and supply.
Economic Impact:
WestNet employs over 460 people as of 2023, providing stable jobs and supporting local economies.
The company's revenue, operating income, and net income have shown consistent growth, indicating its strong financial performance and contribution to the national economy.
Community Support:
WestNet's extensive city-wide Wi-Fi network and fiber-optic services have provided reliable internet access to urban and rural communities alike.
The deletion of WestNet's page seems to be a misunderstanding or an oversight. Given the company's long-standing presence and significant contributions, it is crucial to have this information available to the public. Removing this page could be perceived as an act of bias against a company that has been an integral part of our technological and economic landscape for decades. so whats the issue ? what do you have against WestNet and Calgary? Calgaryleb (talk) 03:18, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have anything against them in particular. The burden of proof is on you to establish that the companies are notable. If they are not notable by Wikipedia's definition (again, see the linked page for more), we cannot host an article about them. HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 03:21, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Haysam Kadri requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/haysam-kadri-named-artistic-director-of-alberta-theatre-projects-1.6404187. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

COI

[edit]

You have an obvious conflict of interest, please don't write about yourself, your friends or relatives and read the guidance below:

  • When you write about a person, you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that they meet the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. If you are writing about yourself, or someone you know as a friend, colleague, client, employer or relative, you have a conflict of interest, and you must disclose the nature of that COI.
