I saw your further discussion on Bobblewik's talk page. I have argued that that voting limitation should not be there (Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft#Procedural objections). But even with it, all it would mean is that any voting you make could be discounted, that doesn't preclude you from suggesting this yourself as well. Aircraft Questions

Loaded weight means exactly what it sounds like: the weight of the plane when loaded (with fuel, payload etc.). This is not a very useful number because the plane could be fully loaded, partially loaded or purposely empty and all these could be the "loaded weight". The correct thing to use would be Maximum gross take-off weight, which is set by the manufacturer.

Range is very subjective. Different stats are published depending on what they want to showcase. For example. The de Havilland Caribou's range is given as "with maximum payload and reserves", showing how far it can carry cargo, while the Bellanca Airbus's range is given with "maximum fuel" and no payload. I prefer the one with the fuel for ferry range, as "flight for range" is defined (for pilots) as an aircraft being flown for maximum range, with the objective being to fly the greatest distance possible per unit of fuel consumed.Trevor macinnis 15:26, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

ICAO aircraft designators

I know you're on a mission to add aircraft designators to the articles, which is fine, but is there possibly a smoother way to integrate them? Just dropping in a single sentence at random, for example right after a line about "Canadian companies manufacturing new Beavers" that reads "The ICAO designation as used in flight plans is DHC2", is not exactly the slickest method. Perhaps somewhere in related content or at least maybe more integrated into the article? It's fine information to have, but it's gotta be included without standing out awkwardly. Re: List of countries by infant mortality rate

Thanks for reminding that the table's heading was missing. As for the differences, I'm not an expert in this field; but the source of the data is now provided clearly in List of countries by infant mortality rate (2005). After a little research, I believe that the figure of 284 for Sierra Leone is based on "under 5 mortality rates" (U5MR) (rate of children died before they turn 5 years old), whereas 162 is the standard mortality rates (under 1 years old). --Vsion 06:48, 24 August 2005 (UTC)

I second that. The thing is, CBW has probably made a lot of edits that don't get counted: if you flag an image for deletion and it gets deleted, that edit isn't counted. Well I checked from google searches and the searches here on wikipedia with no other spelling suggestions or redirections. On google it goes as Leman's terms which was on every search result.

Opalescence

Probably, opalescence deserves its own article. In the meantime, I redirected it to opal because that article includes the following: "The term opalescence is commonly and erroneously used to describe this unique and beautiful phenomenon, which is correctly termed play of color. Contrarily, opalescence is correctly applied to the milky, turbid appearance of common or potch opal. Potch does not show a play of color." If someone follows opalescence to opal they will at least find some discussion of the term there. Critical opalescence seems to be a very specific kind of opalescence, and probably not everything that links to opalescence should lead the reader to critical opalescence. There are only a handful of articles that link to opalescence anyway; if any of them should lead to critical opalescence maybe you could fix them so they do. --Angr/_{tɔk tə mi} 00:34, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

• Do you mean the caption under the picture in the article? That's a function of the formatting when you insert the photo. For instance (without the brackets):

About TheFudge

In the future, when nominating an article for speedy deletion, say that it does not assert notability rather than non-notable as non-notable is not a speedy deletion criteria (whereas does not assert notability is.) I hit an edit conflict, and I had already created the AfD page, so I decided to go through with it. I ended up looking at the Speedy Deletion criteria again, and the article probably fits it though... Sorry about that. — Ambush Commander^(Talk) 20:33, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

Fixed to Avoid Redirect

I noticed that you have "fixed" a bunch of pages to avoid redirect. Taking for example pages that were: Pearson International Airport and making them Pearson International Airport. I don't think these kind of changes are a good idea. I understand that single redirects are considered acceptable and I think that it makes the readability of the source much less useful. Double redirects should be fixed, but they should be fixed at the redirect page. - Webgeer 20:19, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the note, obviously what is done is done and fixing up locations where the incorrect name is used is always good. With regard to your note about speed, it isn't really relevant. It is all done on the server side, so the only thing is added is the single line of text where it says "Page redirected from..." One might argue that it slows down the server, but this would be an extremely small amount (were talking a few lines of code and one more database lookup to the dozens that are done when you load a page). I made the comment partly because I used to do the same type of changes (not very large scale, just when I noticed them). I've come to realize that having readable source is probably better. -- Webgeer 20:57, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

I put on the talk pages about comparing 9/11 with present, especially with Montreal-Dorval International Airport. When I mentioned the airport for the first time on that page (one of them being 9/11 timeline), I asked that no one change the name or link for Montreal-Dorval International Airport, even though it is now Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, because it was Dorval when 9/11 happened. -- SNIyer12 17:33, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Well done for your ongoing work spotting copyvios. Two points:

• When using template:copyvio, don't put [] round the urls. That means they will come out thus: [2] . It is better to leave them naked so they come out thus: http://ftp.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/glo/impressionism/ .
• There has been a recent change of policy at WP:CSD#Articles 8. We can now speedy them using {{db-copyvio|http://ftp.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/glo/impressionism/}} for example. We are asked to notify the poster using {{Nothanks-sd}}.

Aircraft specs policy

Several weeks ago, you voted in the WikiProject Aircraft Specifications Survey. One of the results of the survey was that the specifications for the various aircraft articles will now be displayed using a template. Ericg and I have just finished developing that template; a lengthier bulletin can be found on the WT:Air talkpage. Naturally, we will need to begin a drive to update the aircraft articles. However, several topics in the survey did reach establish consensus, and they need to be resolved before we implement the template. It is crticial that we make some conclusion, so that updating of the specs can resume as soon as possible. You can take part in the discussions here. Expatriates

Thanks for reversing the vandalism by 69.237.182.234. - which I've had to reverse again!

For his/her information, I don't hold anything against expatriates having been one myself - born in Kenya, brought up in Nigeria and educated in Singapore and the UK, where I have lived since 1989, not that has stopped me from travelling around the world and learning other languages.

However, I wouldn't use the term Third Culture Kid which is just silly, nor would I apply it to anyone else I know with a similar background to mine.

The references to former British expatriates as 'When I's and 'FILTH - Failed In London Try Hongkong' are not regarded as derogatory, and in any event they are now a bit dated now that the sun has set on the Empire and British citizens can no longer work in Hong Kong without visas.

Blatant copyright infringements may now be "speedied" If an article and all its revisions are unquestionably copied from the website of a commercial content provider and there is no assertion of permission, ownership or fair use and none seems likely, and the article is less than 48 hours old, it may be speedily deleted. See CSD A8 for full conditions. After notifying the uploading editor by using wording similar to: {{nothanks-sd|pg=page name|url=url of source}} -- ~~~~ Blank the page and replace the text with {{db-copyvio|url=url of source}} to the article in question, leaving the content visible. An administrator will examine the article and decide whether to speedily delete it or not.

Contradictions - I'm not sure how the leave the content visible instruction made it onto that table- it was not a part of the proposal - I will investigate further. Whether people blank the article or just add the template dones't matter at this point- mostly I notified recent RC partollers to get them to start using the system, we'll fis the bugs as they arise.--nixie 02:16, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

Coo, I appreciate the heads up. Question... its late so I'm unsure what "getting caught the same way" is referring to; also I asked someone else, but I was wondering how long does one wait after putting a Speedy Delete header to actually delete the article? And if one chooses to delete it themselves, is there anything else that is necessary/customary? Statement requested for Arbitration

I noticed you pointed out some edits that User:Lightbringer made that violated copyright or other Wikipedia policies, and that he summarily disagreed with you for no valid reason. There is currently an arbitration request regarding Freemasonry here. We were (until the article was locked) suffering the same sorts of unreferenced and/or copyright violating edits that you pointed out. Therefore, if you are so inclined, would you mind making a statement about those issues that you found on other articles? Template:Lists of airports by ICAO code

You could add the breakouts that you have like AC, AB to the template. I don't think that would be the right thing to do. Maybe a second nav template could be built for this? I'm not sure how to do that and make it work with the main one. Take a look at Category:Schools established in the 20th century for some ideas on what might work.

BTW, could you add links for the ICAO codes? The project says that a redirect or DAB should exist for these. By adding the links, we would know which articles need to be added. Some of the IATA articles did that and some did not. With your work, maybe all of the ICAO pages will wind up with links. Vegaswikian 08:11, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

• Take a look at List of airports in Canada (A-C) I think this works better. If it works for you, the introduction needs a little work to go with the template. You can add more text to the nav box and more links when they are ready. Then just add the template to the other articles. For the ICAO codes, just create a second template that is linked link template:List of airports in Canada and let that point to the letter lists. Then include that template in each article. You might be able to include it all in the one I started, might be a lot of information but it would make all of the Canada info available in one nav box. Vegaswikian 09:21, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

I'm not really a new member, I've been on wikipedia for a good two years, but had several accounts due to forgotten passwords :-)

Oh, someone called RFiend deleted my article for Terry McCrann, a financial editor for a newspaper in Melbourne, Australia. He deleted it 'speedily'; it did not even last 4 hours! Anyway, point is, in this article I was attempting to get a photograph into one of those right-hand-side boxes. I tried copying the code from another article, but it had errors. Do you know the correct code?

Can you check the edits from this IP on a few of the Canada airport pages? The ones being made to McCarran are not correct. I suspect this may be true for the others. BTW, how do the templates look for the ICAO and Canada airports look now that the changes appear to be done? I think that what we did look fine and works well. Sorry to bug you. I'm the new user who you sent some useful links to a few days ago so I could use proper style. I have a new problem....I changed skins in my preferences, and cannot get back to the default skin. Do you have any ideas how to fix this? Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. Getting logged out

Hi, I was just surfing past your user page and noticed the bit about getting logged out. I too suffer the same problem (it's ~1 min of inactivity for me). I've found that clicking "Remember Me" when logging in (make sure cookies are enabled) solves this problem. It might be worth a try, even if it's an undesirable workaround. -Lommer | ^talk 06:24, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

I think you are correct on checking the "Remember Me", as at home I have it checked and there seems to be no problem with the logging out. The rest of the time I'm at work and I really don't want to leave my password enabled there, as there are a couple of people who might abuse it because they would think it funny. I could clear everything after I finished but I would get busy and forget (as my supervisor does with his bank account, etc). The strange thing is that getting logged out is really random. Yesterday I had a two hour gap between edits and didn't get logged out. Yet the other day I got logged out even though I was editing. Sometimes the logging out occurs when clicking on a link and then hitting the back button logs back in. The worst was when I had to shut the browser down and start again. This makes me wonder if it's a browser created problem. What ar you using? I'm using Maxthon which is an IE based browser so I should give Firefox a try. I dunno - I'm using firefox 1.0.7. And my symptoms are in full agreeance with the randomness observation. The only thing I find is that If I'm getting logged out spontaneously, it happens repeatedly for some time (sometimes as long as a couple hours) and then I'll go for a day or two without it happening. This leads me to believe its a wikimedia server-side problem or something to do with general net traffic or settings. However, I know enough to know that I don't know much about this kind of stuff and all that is pure speculation. I haven't tried using other browsers yet, I'll give that a shot next time it happens. -Lommer | ^talk 21:07, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
