Nominating categories for renaming

Wen nominating a category for renaming, please use {{subst:cfr|target name}} (or {{subst:cfr|target name|section name}}), in stead of directly using {{cfr full}} or {{cfd all}}. Substituted templates are used for several reasons, including to enter bot-aiding comments (such as telling the bot where the CfR template ends). Od Mishehu 08:10, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, I thought I did use the subst template, maybe something went wrong. --Carioca (talk) 18:12, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Fluminense

I would like to ask u.. please dont eraser all text, if u find something wrong, please try update the information... i had a lot work in translation... And together we can to do the best in the Fluminense Football club page. Thanks for you help :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Valfluzao (talkcontribs) 12:25, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

I removed all the text because it needed a lot of work, as it looked like a machine translation. Also, you removed references and added some typos in the original text. --Carioca (talk) 19:16, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

As this is the English Wikipedia, we should always write in English, so other people can understand the text. I notice you made some improvements. I will see what I can do to help. Regards, --Carioca (talk) 19:14, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

cumprimentos :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.247.107.140 (talk) 20:26, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

I restored your version, but cleaned up a little. You should not use wikilinks to the Portuguese Wikipedia here, as most of the English Wikipedia readers do nor speak Portuguese. --Carioca (talk) 20:38, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
--Carioca (talk) 20:38, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

CA Paulistano

Exm° colegão:

  • I have not the slightest problem that you enjoy changing links from redirects such as São Paulo FC to São Paulo Futebol Clube etc. I accept, this is valuable occupational therapy to some and with only a few seconds of effort the computer can be relieved of a few nanoseconds of work. Please, however, make sure not to remove any valid links thus as in SC Germânia. I personally like redirects, as I don't like typing. I am more sort of content orientated.
  • I personally do not really like people fiddling around a lot with versions of AmE, EnE, AuE, etc. I generally leave articles the way I found them and alterations generally only ever occur when I happen to do a major edit a certain section. I kindly request the favour to be returned.
  • These additions to the talk pages " ... is a low value / crap article in the low standard class " additions were initially well intentioned, but ended up nowhere (lack of labour force), just ending up fouling the talk pages of articles. Formally they ought to be handled as invisible category. I personally have a strong disregard for considering the CA Paulistano, a most important pioneer of the game in Brazil, effectively twice national champions, a dozen times state champions, as "low" on any reasonable "importance scale". I also have a severe disrespect of having the article classed as "start"-class or something like that, after I have invested some considerable time there. It is therefore, that I have kicked that bot-created and in its quantity not follow-upable shyte out.

There is no action required, but a brief note of acknowledgement and respect is appreciated. Obrigado e Abraço, Oalexander-En (talk) 11:46, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Regarding the SC Germânia link, it was my mistake, sorry. Regarding your other points, I understand your position and I reverted my edits. Again I am sorry. Regards, and thanks for improving the article. --Carioca (talk) 19:20, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Amigão, It was absolutely not necessary to revert your edits. However, I sincerely appreciate your thought and your kind reply. I have to thank you for putting up the article in the first place and providing a good overview over this historically so interesting club. Muito obrigado e abraço, Oalexander-En (talk) 14:33, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Dill (footballer)

Compressão no "box".

Hi! According to WP:DATERET:
  • If an article has evolved using predominantly one format, the whole article should conform to it, unless there are reasons for changing it based on strong national ties to the topic.
  • The date format chosen by the first major contributor in the early stages of an article should continue to be used, unless there is reason to change it based on strong national ties to the topic.

As the Dill (footballer) article was started using the month before day format ("April 12, 2006") and it always used this date format until you changed it, then the article's date format used needs to be the month before day format. Hope that helps.

--Carioca (talk) 19:30, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the explanation :) I apologize for writing in our mothertongue, i know it's preferable to do it in English this being EN.WIKI. --Vasco Amaral (talk) 18:20, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Hi! I will restore the original English date format in the Dill (footballer) article (the month before day format), as per my explanation, but I will keep the full team names in the article's storyline. Is that okay to you? Thanks for improving the article. Regards, --Carioca (talk) 19:18, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks and regards! --Carioca (talk) 21:11, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Help

As you can see, I am nearing the completion of the page List of Santos FC players. As soon as I am done with Santos on everything, I will start on Flamengo. However, to make this process faster, is there a bot which automatically alphabetizes lists?

For example:

Zague
Ondigui Adams
Cosa

Is there a bot that could automatically listed as:

Cosa
Ondigui Adams
Zague

Strawberry on Vanilla (talk) 17:57, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks so much for improving the Santos FC page (and thanks for creating several Santos FC-related pages)! As far as I know no, there isn't a bot to do that. But you can request a bot to do that here: Wikipedia:Bot requests. A simpler solution is to use a combination of "wikitable sortable" and "Template:Sortname":

For example:

Player
ZagueZague
Adams, OndiguiOndigui Adams
, CosaCosa

Click on the symbol located next to the word "Player", and it will sort the players by name. If you want to always display the text in alphabetical order, unfortunately you will need to do it manually, if the bot request is declined. Hope that helps! --Carioca (talk) 02:40, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

Flamengo

If you haven't noticed, I already started revamping Flamengo's page. I did a complete renovation of the intro and organized Flamengo's template to access info easier (as well as using the scarlet of Flamengo's crest as a color).

I am confused about Flamengo's titles...isn't the Taca Guanabara and Taca Rio two different parts that make up the Campeonato Carioca or are those three trophies unrelated when it comes to accumulation of titles?

Strawberry on Vanilla (talk) 20:37, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

The Taça Guanabara and the Taça Rio are part of the Campeonato Carioca, but they are at the same time regarded as separate competitions as well. That's why the three competitions are listed separately in Flamengo's article. --Carioca (talk) 20:40, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
How does the achievement section look now?
BTW, is there any way you can get the Campeonato Carioca trophy on wiki commons? I would like to have a pic of it. Strawberry on Vanilla (talk) 18:31, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
It looks better now, but you need to restore the Copa União title (1987 unofficial Campeonato Brasileiro Série A competition), while it was not an official competition, but it was still a very important competition. You can place the Copa União in a different position, separated from the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. I also moved Copa Rio de Janeiro to Copa Rio (state cup), as the competition is usually known as just Copa Rio. It is hard to find a free pic of this trophy. Rafael Carioca

Boas Carioca. I need your help. Some time ago you helped me with ab article I created: Rafael Barreto (footballer). Today I significantly updated and completed his career, and I found out that he is commonly known as Rafael Carioca. Specially in Brazil, and I made him the article focusing in Barreto more because I couldn´t find much info on his previous career back then when I created the article, and because it was the name he was maynly known while in Serbia, although simply Rafael was the most usual one. Since he is known as Rafael Carioca, the problem is that we already have another player using that name: Rafael Carioca. I´m not sure what to do, and that is why I need your help and advice. I tought of perhaps restoring the article into Rafael Felipe Barreto, which is a redirect now thus needing a admin help for making that move, and than changing Rafael Carioca into a disambiguation page, but I am not sure if that is a good idea, or not. I am also finding some difficulties to find the exact career and Vasco da Gama stats for Rafael Barreto (footballer) and I´m not sure how did he fall so low to play currently with Mesquita as he seems to be good player, see video. On the other side Rafael Carioca played 2 years later with Vasco as well! What you think the best option for this two players is? FkpCascais (talk) 07:45, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi! It is better to move Rafael Barreto (footballer) to Rafael Felipe Barreto, I deleted the page so you can move it now. It is hard to find the exact career and Vasco da Gama stats for him, but he was probably part of Vasco da Gama's squad during the second half of 2008. I suggest keeping the page Rafael Carioca under the current name, as he is better known than Rafael Felipe Barreto. Regards, --Carioca (talk) 19:28, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
OK, that seems great. I´ve added a note at beggining of both articles informing about the existence of the another player, so there may be no confusion there. Everything solved, many thanks. Abraço! FkpCascais (talk) 20:31, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
Excellent. Abraços! --Carioca (talk) 20:33, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

List of Brazilian football champions

Are the flags on this list ok? Strawberry on Vanilla (talk) 19:26, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

I would probably keep the original list of champions table, but add yours "By state" and "By club" tables. But if the flags are the problem, perhaps replacing those with text can be a better compromise (I mean Rio Grande do Sul instead of {{flagicon|Rio Grande do Sul}}, as most non-Brazilians do not recognize the flags). Anyway, the info regarding the titles by state is very relevant in Brazil, and should stay. --Carioca (talk) 19:49, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

I posted an updated opinion in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Football page. --Carioca (talk) 21:24, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Need advice

Boas Carioca. I need your help and advice in one case. This is the edit in question [1] where I basically removed the zero´s from the infobox and the other user reinserted them with the reason explained in the edit summary. My question is, which is correct? Do we count state leagues for infobox stats? Or only national ones as the other user says? Best regards, FkpCascais (talk) 20:09, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

Olá! If I remember correctly, only national league games are counted. State leagues are not counted in the infobox. --Carioca (talk) 20:21, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
OK, just to confirm, so that means that every time a club does not participate in a national championship, the infobox stats are 0 (0), even if they played plenty of matches in state leagues? I mean, that means that all clubs in seasons when they didn´t participated in national leagues will end up having 0 (0) stats? FkpCascais (talk) 20:28, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that's correct. But the state championship caps can be mentioned in the body of the article. You can check this discussion: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 52#Statistics for Brazilian players. Regards, --Carioca (talk) 20:38, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
Many, many Thanks Carioca. I was unaware of this and it is extremely usefull. FkpCascais (talk) 20:47, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
I am glad I could help! Regards, --Carioca (talk) 20:48, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

1987 (again)

Dê uma olhada em Talk:List_of_Brazilian_football_champions#1987_news.21 a justiça anulou o reconhecimento da CBF, um alto desembargador decidiu que o Sport é o unico campeão de 1987. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.79.99.241 (talk) 18:21, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I read that. Thanks for your help, it seems some anonymous users keep adding Flamengo as one of the 1987 champions. --Carioca (talk) 18:42, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Brazil team

Hi Carioca, take a look at Brazil_national_football_team#Success.2C_strengths_and_weakness (or see my reverted version in history). The section was reverted as Original Research by a gringo, but you, me and everyone in Brazil known how us are the one of the best and our weakness. The naked foot theory was fisrt introduced by brazilian media in 60s and portrayed in documentary The Boys from Brazil. Pelé said in various interviews confirming that. In fact if the poor brazilians don't have money to buy a decent shoes, this conceed them somewhat advantage when playing irregular terrains. The large population argument is purely based in probablity and statistics.

About the failures section, I've based on endmatch bechavior of the players, in 1998 for exemple Bebeto and Leonardo feed the media with conspiracy theories, cleary delirating. In 2006 after Thierry Henry goal the performance of the whole team degrated, with a bizarre error of Roberto Carlos in the that goal (you can't expect such error from a player of his level). But in 2010 was cleary in endmatch Julio Cesar interview how disturbed he was.

About Olympic Medals, that's a fact. Our young olympic teams was knocked by much inferior teams, such URSS in 1988, Nigeria in 1996. The first exemplo We ha the explosing Romario and we loose, in 1996 we had Ronaldo in the best form and we loose again.

Analyse the situation and feel free to edit that section. I just think as a encyclopedia, users expect to know why a team is sucessfull or why they failed in certain situations. The powerfull of our nation in soccer is subject of interest in a lot of countries. I've been in Canada recently and people keep me asking this constantly. Why the fail? Wht the sucess? Why no Olympic medal?

Thanks in advance and appreciate your opinion. --201.79.160.78 (talk) 10:52, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I am aware of some of those theories. However, most foreigners know very little about Brazilian soccer, so the best solution is to find sources (like websites, books and magazines, but avoid blogs) to settle the issue and to stop any original research accusations. Hope that helps. Regards, --Carioca (talk) 18:47, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
