TV/Radio Images

Got a question for you....says on rule 1 of WP:FUC "if unfree material can be transformed into free material, it should be done instead of using a "fair use" defense."...my question is, is there anyway to turn any of the old logos/images that are being deleted into free material? If so, how? Thanks - SVRTVDude 10:23, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:RunawaysCv18.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:RunawaysCv18.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Ioncinema

I was wondering, what is the criteria to determine whether a spammish link should be blacklisted or not? Ioncinema has been peddling his ioncinema.com site on various film articles, and I've reverted the linkspam. How severe does the spamming need to be to warrant a blacklist? —Erik (talkcontrib) - 00:44, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

It needs to be pretty widespread. You can use Special:Linksearch to keep an eye on these links. If it gets out of hand, let me know. --Chris Griswold () 01:04, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the tool; I wasn't aware of it. I've found some that I've missed that I'll purge. Ioncinema seems to have stopped after my spam2 warning about 28 Weeks Later, though. —Erik (talkcontribreview) - 01:15, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Spam?....what?

I recently added (Mi Casa, Su Casa) and (cameo) to Mrs.Eden's filmography section...how is that spam?....The movie was known as Mi Casa, Su Casa and it is still that way on Laura Harring's profile...and actually it is true it was only a cameo by Barbara. Maybe you could use a milder term when you don't agree with someone...but spam?...that's a bit too much. Wish you the best!...C.Kent87 02:24, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello

I got your message. I'll wait for you to demonstrate a superior knowledge of anything I chose to edit. Fuck you.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.61.40.18 (talkcontribs) 13:20, February 5, 2007

It seriously took you two edits to work up the balls to post that? And you're actually going to defend your false claim that a Pitt dining hall was named after Stephen Colbert? Go find a Rocky Horror Picture Show performance if you want audience participation. --Chris Griswold () 18:27, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

it botched my first edit because of some editing conflict. also, i'm certain i provided a source for that edit.

What source could you possibly have used? It's hard to cite falsehoods. --Chris Griswold () 18:36, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

this was weeks ago, hold on. i believe the dining hall is under renovation and a student poll was conducted to name the new facility. Saying Colbert won that poll is a fact. The new dining hall is not even open, yet. You're just biased against him, anyway.

Yes, I am concerned about your adding uncited nonsense to an article because I am against Stephen Colbert, and not because I actively watch the article's progress and remove college bullshit from articles like this frequently. Find a source, and then I'll believe you. Otherwise, you're just pissing in the wind. --Chris Griswold () 18:43, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

source: http://media.www.pittnews.com/media/storage/paper879/news/2006/11/10/News/Group.Wants.Hall.Named.For.Colbert-2451436.shtml?sourcedomain=www.pittnews.com&MIIHost=media.collegepublisher.com

That does not say that the dining hall will be named for Stephen Colbert. It says a group of Monty Python and Weird Al Yankovic fans got together and signed a petition in the name of their new nerd god. It doesn't say that Pitt is going to actually agree to it. --Chris Griswold () 18:45, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Firstly, it doesn't matter who voted for the new name, nerds or otherwise. Secondly, i believe the poll was non-binding. The university requested possible names for the dining hall and "Stephen Colbert Dining Facility" is the frontrunner in student feedback, despite the fact that it may irk you. Correct me if i'm wrong but you have no assossiation with the University of Pittsburg.

No, it doesn't matter who voted for the name; I never said it did. And yes, the poll was non-binding, which means there is nothing to say the cafeteria will be named after Stephen Colbert, which contradicts what you added to the article. Finally, I am an alumnus of Pitt. Additionally, I know a number of Pitt students, and I know that what you added was untrue. I actually really like Stephen Colbert. Just because I think a vocal minority of his fans are pathetic and unrelenting does not enter into my decisions to remove the untrue statement that you added to the article. Here's the difference between you and me: Whereas you added something untrue that you thought was interesting or cool or funny to the article, when I was picking up my fiancee at Hillman, I looked at microfiche of 25-year-old Pitt News to get some info on the murder that took place occurred in Towers that resulted in the current security system. So don't challenge my knowledge on this subject as you did above. I was the news editor of the Pitt News, and that means I know so much more about Pitt's campus than you can even imagine, some of which I can't even ethically report.--Chris Griswold () 19:15, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism?

Vandalism? I thought several weeks ago another user removed a message from your talk page that was rude to you. I assure you that my edit was not in bad-faith. Acalamari 18:29, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't recall that happening. It really oughtn't. I'd prefer to receive my messages. Edit your own talk page. --Chris Griswold () 18:32, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Microheroes

Hello, my name is DrawsixBD, and I'm speaking for a community of Microhero artists that have noticed recently that you have taken to making edits to a wikipedia article about our art style and community, including a motion for removal. I'm asking as a fellow Pittsburgher and a microartist what exactly references are you looking for. Most of my fellow artists actually feel this is a personal attack since our sister community in Dollz has a wiki which lacks refences as well. If you could tell us exactly what you are looking for, we might just be able to accomplish it. Thanks in advance. --Drawsixbd 9:31 PM 2/5/2007

What we need is for all claims to be cited to reliable sources. I know about micro heroes, and I like them very much, so I have no doubt that articles have been written about these in magazines (Wired, for instance?) or reliable Web sites. Blogs, message boards, and wikis are not reliable sources, unfortunately, because anyone can write on them with little editorial control. I was not aware of the Dollz article; I will have to look at that one. I wish you the best of luck in working on this article, and I am available to help you with any questions you might have. I want this to be a good article as much as you do, and Wikipedia's guidelines can help you to create a solid article that your community can be proud of. As it is, the article lacks the quality of many articles, and I feel that this does not represent your artform well. So let me know what you need from me, and I will help as best as I can. --Chris Griswold () 03:01, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Stanler.

Thanks for telling Stanler that. I have no experience with uploading pictures or anything to Wikipedia, so I didn't really know what to tell the user. I have no pictures to upload. Acalamari 04:00, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Paul Oakenfold Discography

hey man why do you keep deleting my page i am attempting to create? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by NitroOverdriveX (talkcontribs) 07:43, 6 February 2007 (UTC).

Start it as a section on the Oakenfold article. If it grows too big, then make an article. --Chris Griswold () 07:45, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

i understand, but it was growing too big, and unorganized, that is why i wanted to create a discography site. NitroOverdriveX 07:50, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Create the page in your user space. Wait until you get a consensus answer to your question on Talk:Paul Oakenfold. Caution: Do not use the album covers anywhere but article space. --Chris Griswold () 07:52, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

How?

How is that not a Good purpose?Stanler 18:23, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

What are you talking about?--Chris Griswold () 19:57, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Stanler is talking about those papers they wanted to upload. If I'd realized exactly what they wanted to upload, I would have said no in the first place. I'm going to look up about uploading images. I'm probably not going to add any, but I'll at least read up about it. First I need to go to another user Stanler's talking to: Stanler is asking that user why they haven't uploaded any papers yet. Acalamari 20:14, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not :
  • a mirror or a repository of links, images, or media files.
  • a blog, webspace provider, or social networking site.
  • an indiscriminate collection of information. --Chris Griswold () 20:40, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

"You are encouraged to ask for feedback about the quality of an article at any time. Ask your fellow editors for their opinions, list outstanding issues and areas to improve on article talk pages, get other editors involved. Networking to identify like-minded Wikipedians is one of the most important (and enjoyable) aspects of the project."

This is why I want to do this. I would like to get other peoples opinions on the issue before I post it on the site. I feal that it may be to opinionated or biased to be posted at this time so I have contained it within my own page for editing before "releasing" it.Stanler 14:30, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

You have never once given this as a reason for your doing this, and these are papers, rather than encyclopedia articles. Do not upload them. --Chris Griswold () 20:22, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

deletion of Tandy (band) page

I would like to dispute the deletion of the new Tandy (band) page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log/delete&page=Tandy_(band)

Tandy is developing quite a considerable fan base throughout the alt country music scene, and is developing a particularly noteworth following in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the U.K., where Americana \ "American roots" music is quite popular compared to other American music forms.

Tandy's US following is starting to encompass fans in the US alt country scene such as Steve Earle and the late Dave Van Ronk.

Please undelete, else refer this undelete request to an alt country music subject matter expert for further discussion of my undelete request. Thanks!

Cody3019 19:57, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

I will undelete now and send this to Articles for Deletion. Thanks. --Chris Griswold () 19:57, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Here it is: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tandy (band). --Chris Griswold () 20:08, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Bug.

You said on my talk page a day or so ago about losing your patience, so I decided to stop asking you for any help, as I didn't want to become irritating. Even before then, I decided to limit asking you for help in order to stop myself from becoming an annoyance. As for removing vandalism or personal attacks from talk/user talk pages...I won't remove any messages from user talk pages other than my own (personal attacks or not, I'll leave the attack messages alone to avoid being called a vandal), and with other talk pages, I'll only remove the vandalism if it's obvious vandalism (like blanking). Acalamari 21:34, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

I do have one question though: are you glad that I didn't turn out to be a user who joined Wikipedia only to have a user and user talk page? (Seriously, I didn't register simply to have a user and talk page; I didn't even know they existed until I joined). The reason I'm asking is because I earlier I was reading your first message to my user page. Acalamari 02:47, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

DCAU figures

The action figure images recently uploaded and plastered across half hte DCU character pages should probably all be deleted. they are unsourced, and given the lighting and focus, are probably professionally taken. Unless the editor can provide source info, wikipedia would be best without them. ThuranX 23:15, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I suppose so. I am not as versed in image deletion stuff, so I will have to go look it up. --Chris Griswold () 23:44, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
The pictures were tiny. They added to nearly every page they were on. It's really nice that you took it upon yourself to nullify the last 3 days of my life. So you have nothing better to do than destroy the efforts of others? Some of the pages like Waverider even talked about the figures. No Process. No Discussion. No Time. You Suck!--Mickdansforth 03:01, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Look, your uploading of these figures doesn't even use proper attribution; you claim they are comic book covers, which they obviously are not. You really need to read Wikipedia:Fair use so that you can give proper information on each photo to save it from impending deletion and then to insert these on articles that need images and follow fair-use guidelines in how to implement them in these articles. Being bold is one thing. Initiating a project like this without community support is another. I am not the only editor who removed these; I am just the one who removed them from the articles for more minor characters. If you need help, ask. Also, please calm down. --Chris Griswold () 07:11, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Fensteren

I wish you hadn't done that. I am completely convinced it's a sock account (the edit history makes that absolutely clear) and I object to Hinnen and his "brother" playing us for suckers. Guy (Help!) 07:39, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

I just don't see it, and I would rather we review this before indefinitely blocking this user. --Chris Griswold () 07:44, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Chris, please send me an e-mail at "deanhinnen at yahoo.com" to get some more details. I've been reading Unblock-en-l since I'm still on the mailing list, and JzG has some of his facts screwed up. For example, IIRC Fensteren started to participate in the RfC before, not after, JzG deleted the input from my brother. This distinction undermines his claim that Fensteren is a sock. My response to Fensteren congratulating him for his "perspicacity" was for his contribution in a sockpuppet investigation involving the Free Republic article, not for any edits to the Free Republic article or Talk page (which he hadn't yet made), and I have already explained and apologized for the ambiguity of that statement.
I will AGF and assume that JzG simply has his facts innocently mixed up, and is not deliberately trying to spin the facts against Fensteren, but there may be more to JzG's involvement here than meets the eye. For example, Fensteren may have sent JzG an impolite e-mail or two after being blocked, and JzG might be carrying a bit of a grudge from that. Fensteren's first contact to Unblock-en-l about ten days ago, and the response from JzG at that time, suggests that this may be the case.
Anyone who has correctly identified BenBurch and FAAFA as a street gang has been targeted for retaliation in one form or another. This new user was trying to take advantage of legitimate dispute resolution proceedings, to assist in resolving a dispute that he had observed. With the possible exception of his private e-mail exchange with JzG, he has been a paragon of civility throughout.
If JzG has other e-mails from Fensteren that indicate less civility on Fensteren's part, or support his "gut feeling" that Fensteren is a sock, I would encourage him to produce them.
You need more people with level heads involved in dispute resolution around here. Fensteren appears to be one of them. Don't let JzG run him off. Dino 13:14, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Five Users.

In response to you asking about problems I encounter, exactly how should I deal with Stanler? It seems that Stanler "knows" (if that's an appropriate term to use on Wikipedia) four other users: Linny1, Nextbigpaint, Shadow Star14, and MCEstu. Shadow Star14, Linny1, as well as Stanler, seem to want to add "papers." I've looked at the contributions, talk pages, and user pages of all five users. From what I understand, they all seem to be students from a school that has some program on its computers that blocks them from doing certain things on the internet, and they wanted (or maybe still want) to use Wikipedia as a chat site, which I told them not to do (I was right in telling them that wasn't I?). How should I go about dealing with them? Also, Stanler has re-added the page(s?) you deleted. Acalamari 20:08, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I have left all of them messages. Stanler replied above, and I told him not to add these papers again. Also, I deleted the pages again and protected them to prevent him from re-creating them. If this continues, they will eventually be blocked, and their school may be notified. --Chris Griswold () 20:29, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. If you don't mind, I will review what you did so I can learn from this. Acalamari 20:33, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
  • What about this image that Nextbigpaint added? It has no copyright status, and seems to be an image of a computer game. Acalamari 02:58, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

I was trying to make a user page. At the time I didn't know how to make a user page but now I do.Nextbigpaint 17:31, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Chris,

Is there anything that can be done with the above use? He seems hell bent on circumventing this CfD by just changing the other 2 cats. He also isn't responding to comments either on his user talk or in the edit summaries.

Thanks... — J Greb 17:25, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Addendum: the user just started moving the Marvel stuff... deffinetly circumventing the CfD. — J Greb 17:32, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
2nd addendum: And he blanked my posts to his talk without response. — J Greb 17:38, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

user talk vandalism

dude stop putting the warnings back up cause I consider that vandalism cause it makes my page look bad. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nextbigpaint (talkcontribs) 8 February 2007

Do not remove warnings from your talk page. Wikipedia editors need to see those messages. Continue to remove them, and I will block you. You have not made one positive edit to the encyclopedia, and so I am leaning toward an indefinite block. --Chris Griswold () 20:23, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

if u block me i will make new accounts and keep doing this. Theres no need to them to stay on there.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Nextbigpaint (talkcontribs) 8 February 2007

Do you honestly think I won't find you? Do not remove these warnings. You are vandalizing a page owned by Wikipedia. I will notify your school if you continue. --Chris Griswold () 20:27, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
  • I just had to revert the talk page of Nextbigpaint for you. A checkuser might by necessary sometime in the future, unless the user uses a new account and talks to Stanler and the others. Acalamari 22:13, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. I appreciate that. I don't think any of you are bad, and I think I probably would have been doing the same thing when I was in school. What you're trying to do: Is it because you are barred from doing it in school? Aren't there other sites better suited to what you want? I'll help you if I can. --Chris Griswold () 23:52, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

I didn't start a new thread. I just posted that message above in the thread before this one as it was relevant to that topic. Was I not supposed to do that? Sorry, I'm hurrying because I've been dealing with vandalism on another page. Acalamari 00:03, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
No, it was not relevant. Stanler was apologizing. Keep it to the same thread. --Chris Griswold () 00:18, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Weird page problem

As I was viewing 2007 in comics, I saw a video game category listed. I was going to remove it: but it's not listed anywhere. Any idea on how to fix this? RobJ1981 05:20, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

When that happens, check the templates. It was {{Year in}}, which I have changed. It has apparently only been used for video game articles until recently. --Chris Griswold () 06:52, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Outside Opinion Requested: Children of Men

Hi! I was hoping to enlist your assistance in resolving a difference in edits for the article for the movie, Children_of_Men. The differences in edits is relatively minor but contentious, with low-level edit-warring back and forth replacing one version, then the other. It has even resulted in one of the parties being reported for 3RR violations. And of course, it has strained civility to the breaking point. A third voice (preferably someone who has seen the movie, but not vital) is needed. A request for editor review was requested before from two other editors, without response. I would suggest taking a look at the key points as they have been debated on the discussion page, but the debate has gone on for...quite a bit. If you will permit me, the two edits take place in the synopsis, viewed by their diff here.

  • One side of the debate (indicated by the linked edit on the left) argues that statements and sounds heard at the end of the film (the sounds of children laughing and playing and the words Shantih, Shantih, Shantih appearing on the screen at the very end) were not specifically part of the synopsis as it was no more a part of the "storyworld" than the credits or specifcally thematic components. This pov statees that the components are solely thematic, and should be only be mentioned in the Themes header of the article.
  • The other side of the debate (indicated by the linked edit on the right) argues that these same statements, by the very fact that they were observable portions of the film should be a part of the synopsis, in keeping with the definition of the word, further reasoning that casual visitors want an accurate depiction of what was on the screen for the film's duration, allowing for any thematic discussion of the synopsis to take place in the Themes section, either in brief or in depth.

I thank you for taking the time to read this request, and I hope you can assist us in finding a compromise.Arcayne 15:37, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Watch your mouth when you attack armenianNY. He did not do anything against you. This is his online friend, he is blocked and asked me to tell you that if you have anything against what he writes, then you have to argue within his contribution pages and lines, within the articles. Keep your ugly emails to yourself. His email is armenian_nj@yahoo.com. He asked me to tell you, if you want to say something, bring your facts, and email directly to him. Otherwise, keep being interested in Passover, Orthodox Jews, binge drinking (probably you have a problem like that, one can tell it by your "atrocious" words and picture in your user page). Yours Berberov.

Okay, I simply don't know how to follow such a gushing of friendliness and civility. All ow my crass little self to say that I tend to enjoy the edit history I have read of some of your commentary. And if you are in fact binge-drinking, i would ask that you don't bogart the bottle and share a sip or thre with your fellow 'pedians.Arcayne 04:08, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, yes, that is amusing. Additionally, I will take a look at the article you want me to tomorrow. --Chris Griswold () 08:24, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. My comment wasn't meant to prompt that, and someone has weighed in on the topic already, but it would be nice to see if there are other viewpoints out there (esp. since I am the one arguing for the inclusion)Arcayne 01:06, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Death's Head

Hi Chris,

you seem a decent sort, judging from our interactions over Runaways, so I was wondering if you could bring a fresh pair of eyes to Death's Head. One user, Monkeyhousetim is removing quite a bit of information from the article and not responding to requests on the talk page to explain his edits, and furthermore is removing comments he disagrees with from the talk page. I left a warning on his talk page but he removed that too.

The article was drawn to my attention after Mrph linked to it on the WP:Comics noticeboard, and I admit that after seeing that and looking at the article, I may have erred in the message I left on his (Mrph's) talk page, but in all my communications with Monkeyhousetim directly I have assumed good faith and treated him with (I hope) nothing but respect. Even so, I am concerned by his editing of the talk page, and apparent bad faith in other's edits. I hope you can help out, and if I have made any grievieous errors in my conduct, please let me know. Spider-Man

Thank you for your article on the Six Armed Spider-Man. It was very helpful! 'WiiWillieWiki(Talk) (Contrib) 21:23, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

I am not sure what this is in reference to. --Chris Griswold () 01:29, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Yellow Submarine Improv Troupe (YSIT)

Would you please take a look at Yellow Submarine Improv Troupe (YSIT)? I am currently in a conflict with User:IrishGuy about this article. (Among others - he has been following me from article to article). In a nutshell: I removed a lot of uncited claims, unencyclopedic and/or vague language, and explanation of improv comedy. He says he disagrees with my removal of what he feels are claims to notability, but which I feel are uncited, vague references to people they hired to teach them. So he just reverts all of my edits, not just what he says he disagrees with.

As I said, this conflict has moved from article to article, as he reverts edits that I make to remove uncited material. Please, if I am doing anything wrong, tell me, but I really don't want to be in an edit war, and certainly not several of them. I am just trying to clean up all of the articles about non-notable comedy groups, and this one in particular has a lot of irrelevant or uncited claims. Thanks, Future Fun Jumper (TIC) 00:18, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Odd unblock

I notice you unblocked a user with a rather terse summary, without notifying the blocking admin as far as I can see. I believe this account might be a sock of a banned editor and you should at least drop a note of your action at Wknight's talk page. Grandmasterka 11:35, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

You're right; that's what I was just trying to remember to follow up on. Thanks. --Chris Griswold ()
Ordinarily I'd shrug this off but I have to strongly disagree in this case. I don't see any constructive edits and, on the contrary, I see numerous destructive and sneaky disparaging edits:
  • [1]: Calling an entertainer gay when nothing in the article agrees.
  • [2]: Calling the same entertainer lazy.
  • [3]: Sneaking in obvious misinformation and negative POV (replacing "lush vegetation" with "respitory infections").
  • [4]: Attacking a school district saying teachers and students would have to suck it up and deal with the termites.
  • [5]: Several changes disparaging the school and local populace.
  • [6]: Bizarre and attacking edit.
  • [7]: Saying a local town was formed by inbreeding which continues to the present day.
  • [8]: Attacking another editor that reverted one of his nonsense attack edits.
If this isn't the perfect definition of a throwaway vandalism-only account, I don't know what is. This account's activity is why the Rollback and Undo buttons are necessary and I strongly recommend reblocking. —Wknight94 (talk) 12:27, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
OK. I will re-instate the block. I just feel the user's energy might have been redirected better; I've seen it done in other cases. --Chris Griswold () 13:37, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
I'll leave it up to you but that goes far beyond my WP:AGF capability. When someone comes out of the gate spewing that much nonsense and venom, I've found there's little point in keeping them around. They'll usually just return with a new account anyway. —Wknight94 (talk) 17:25, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
I just like to be absolutely certain, and I have seen editors like this turn around and be positive. --Chris Griswold () 23:05, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Photos et. al.

Chris. Thanks again about seeing that article through. I'm glad to add photos to the articles. I have taken countless thousands over the years and I'm just beginning my journey in the Wiki universe. Just a bit of a learning curve: the tags are different from HTML, but I'm figuring them out.- Ronald C. Yochum, Jr. 14:48, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the Welcome

Other than the username kerfuffle my experience here has been good. But I'll definitely keep you in mind if I have questions, etc. Friedly white people are always good to know. Theangryblackwoman 13:22, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

I deleted it

Moon High

Chris, I'll rent the movie and take a screen grab! lol. Maybe I'll see if I can find a yearbook or something from the HS. But yes, the HS is in the movie. I know it's silly, but it's one of those quarky things that comes up every so often in the school. --Write On 1983 03:46, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Cool. I'll leave it in your capable hands. I trust you completely with this. --Chris Griswold () 03:50, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Question

Is this a 3RR violation by TJ Spyke: [9]. All the reverts aren't 100 percent identical, but pretty close. It was reverting vandalism: but he could've easily reported the users instead of turning it into yet another wrestling article edit/revert war. I asked another admin: but no reply from that person yet. I would've just added it to the 3RR part of the noticeboard, but I decided to ask about it first. RobJ1981 08:00, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Reverting vandalism doesn't count for 3RR. -Chris Griswold () 08:15, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Question

I understood that the discussion as to whether a wiki page deserved a speedy delete was to be done on its discussion page. Can you move the conversation over there for each respective page please? Dante-kun 10:32, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

I see you speedied these pages as copyvios. However, there is some question about this and several other articles with the same contributor. If Argonaut was not the original contributor there is page history that is not a copyvio that is worth saving. Even if Argonaut is the original contributor there is a question as to if it's a copyvio as the originating website has a license which may be semi-compatable with Wikipedia's. At any rate, a group of us are willing to re-write these. Would you please restore it? ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:02, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

I restored Halloween traditions so you can look through it, but Halloween festival was always a copyvio introduced by User:Argonaut, so I deleted it again. --Chris Griswold () 01:16, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Questions About Adopt-a-User.

Mr. ChrisGriswold, I am interested in becoming an adopter on Adopt-a-User at some stage. Before I do join it, I would like to ask you some questions first, as you are both a member of it, and an administrator.

(Note: I hate having to double-space messages like this, but sometimes it's necessary) First of all, one of the requirements is that an adopter must not be blocked for six months. As you know, you blocked me for three hours in December for 3RR, and in the last two weeks, I have been autoblocked three times. In all, I have been blocked one time (by you), and autoblocked four times. I'm not concerned about the autoblocks (as they don't count), but I am worried about the block you gave me over two months ago. I have been very careful not to break 3RR since then

About vandalism (I'm sorry, but I need to mention Krune, as this is very important); as you know, I removed most of his IP's trolling messages. You and I didn't consider it vandalism, as I was removing messages that were inflammatory, and didn't have anything to do with improving the article. However, Leflyman considered it major vandalism, blamed you (I wasn't happy about this, it wasn't your fault), and reported you to AN/I. How will as this affect me?

As for my edit count, I have well above the required 500 edits, and as you know, my edits are not "junk edits." Here is my edit count: 1 for you to study and comment on. You'll see that I have done quite a lot of edits.

Final question: do you think I'd make a decent Adopter or not?

I apologize for the length of this message, but I did have these questions to ask. I'm not looking to become an Adopter right now; I want to read more about the Adopt-a-User some more before I make a decision. Acalamari 19:50, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

I think you would make a much better adoptee right now. You are focused, and your heart is in the right place, but I think you need guidance. As for Leflyman's actions, nothing came of them because it was nonsense. --Chris Griswold () 21:26, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your answer. Would you mind telling me what guidance I need? If you can point out where I'm going wrong, I can improve myself. I do listen to and follow the advice of other users, so you don't have to worry about me ignoring your messages. What shouldn't, and what should, I be doing? Acalamari 21:39, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, I meant to ask "what should, and what shouldn't, I be doing?" Acalamari 02:45, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Dear Self-Important Loser Who Lives at Wikipedia

Who the fuck do you think you are?

First, don't send me any more messages about my contributions to Wikipedia. Your snide, pompous remarks and your obessiveness over Wikipedia editing make you seem a little insecure about your intelligence and abilities. Apparently, you need to prove something. When you said "our encyclopedia", I think what you really meant is YOUR encyclopedia. Second, for someone who is against censorship (like your little banner shows), you sure do like censoring others. Third, do you live on Wikipedia? Go out and do something. Get some fresh air. Find a boyfriend or girlfriend, depending on your preference. Wikipedia is not your life. There's a whole, big world out there with lots of things to do. But most of all, stop being a pain in the ass to other people who contribute here. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rosemary2003 (talkcontribs) 23:28, 20 February 2007.

Wikipedia is our encylcopedia. I write my own encyclopedia at home, but it's just about the levels of sadness I feel, which I see you have again brought to my attention. And yes, your vandalism[10] was a great contribution to Wikipedia. I was wrong to delete your scribblings. --Chris Griswold () 01:04, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Did you know that there were 85 entries in that category. I cleaned out the articles. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 23:42, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

you are a scumbag rogue admin

you recently contacted me about an add i made which i FULLY CITED. it is admins like you who are shitting on all of the greatness of wikipedia. i plead with you.... PLEASE... STAY OFF OF WIKIPEDIA! work in the private sector and fuck up that company, scumbag —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.180.194.120 (talk) 00:46, 21 February 2007 (UTC).

To be honest, I tend to shit on everything I touch, so it's probably best I stay contained to edits like these: [11]. --Chris Griswold () 01:03, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

...yeah. You are a bad, bad man (snicker, snicker...guffaw!) Sorry Chris - I couldn't say that and keep a straight face. It appears you are making friends again. :) Arcayne 00:55, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes, well, I cleaned out the speedy deletions last night, which means I now get to hear from people who don't know how Wikipedia works, even though it was explained to them before and are pissed off that their two-paragraph essay on themselves got deleted.--Chris Griswold () 01:03, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Might I invite you over to the funfest that is Children of Men? We've got one one editor who has WP:OWN issues, who hasn't allowed a single edit to survive without getting reverted at least once. This is the same chucklehead who chased away the editor making pretty good strides in getting the article to FA status. I can't get an edit in edgewise, and I think my edits are pretty solid. Actually, I am getting pretty tired of dealing with this editor myself, and was about to look for independent oversight myself. This guy is everything that is wrong with WP, to my reckoning. He's a believer that stamina is the best trait a contributor can have, not civility. Which I find both infuriating...and remarkably sad. I think i could really use the insight that outside view might give.Arcayne 03:59, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

It's a bit to dive into. Give me some example diffs and I can help out. This sort of thing should not be happening. --Chris Griswold () 06:33, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Please Adopt Me!!!

I feel that there is so much to learn here at Wikipedia (I know my acount is almost a year old, but I only used it for like 5 edits before two months ago) and I think I need help...
