About Copper Hydroxide[edit]

Hi, I saw the post you left about a month ago on the article copper hydroxide and just wanted to ask you for help on that article, since I think I'm completely alone editing it. Slartibartfast1992 21:05, 2 May 2007 (UTC). P.S.: About your post, I think listing the preparation of the compound is quite adequate for an article on a compound.[reply]

Hi Chris - thanks for your contributions to the copper hydroxide article! It really enhanced the article, I think. One thing, though - you drew the structure of a hydrazide as PhCO-O-NHNH2, but it should be PhCONHNH2 instead (the N directly bonded to the C=O) - that also explains why there are 10 Os on the left, and only 9 on the right. Also, shouldn't the Cu product be copper(I) oxide + water, as CuOH is unstable, isn't it? That makes the balanced equation:

PhCONHNH2 + 4 Cu(OH)2 --> PhCOOH + 2 Cu2O + 5 H2O + N2

Is this right? If so, please would you be able to fix the reaction scheme? Interesting reaction, too - do you have a reference for it? Thanks! Walkerma 02:31, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
