Pic upload[edit]

Hi,

I marked your photo "N1500.jpg" you recently uploaded with the "permission" tag, as you indicated in the comments that the photo is up there with permission. Unfortunately this is not allowed on Wikipedia; our content has to be released into the public domain or licensed under the GFDL. See Wikipedia:Copyright tags. Betacam[edit]

Hi Colin

I found that you have edited on the Betacam article and I though to ask you something about what is stated on that article (may not be your statement but I need an advice)

The article section that talks about the speed of Betacam SP tapes states following: "Actually, tape speed is slight slower in machines working in the 625/50 format, increasing tape duration of 1 minute every 5 of nominal value. So, a 90 minute tape will record 108 minutes of images in PAL."

Wikipedia is the only place I could find so far that preciselly determines that Betacam SP PAL tapes run slower so that a 90 min tape ends up playing for 108 min. I could not find another source on this. I have talked to some technicians and although they are familiar with the concept that the tape lasts longer they could not point to exactly how long will the tape be. Do you have any experience on this. It would surely help me a lot .

Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. Er, sorry about that[edit]

The above boilerplate nuisance was my fault (sort of). I transferred your image listed above to Wikimedia Commons. I thought this would be useful, since it would get wider use there.

Unfortunately, once I did this, someone decided that "evidence of permission" had not been correctly registered in the OTRS system (or whatever) and plastered some boilerplate on *both* the Commons and original Wikipedia upload copies(!), placing them at risk of deletion.

(I think this was because they were listed as "with permission of video99.co.uk" or "colin99.co.uk").

Pretty annoying, sorry about that. I've asked for someone to contact you by email at your colin99@video99.co.uk address (listed on your websites) to confirm permission for *all* your images, to avoid this happening again. I realise that you've already granted this permission (and that you're the owner of those sites), but AFAICT this is supposed to be registered in the OTRS system.

Video resolution[edit]

I appreciated your comments in the Super VHS article, to the effect that luma resolution is certainly not the entire story. I would love to build a useful table comparing the various analog video recording formats, including bandwidth, horizontal resolution in TVL pph, and SNR, all for both luma and chroma. It would be nice to be able to say something about stability too, and perhaps columns where we can say things like "ENG" and "barely NTSC broadcast quality" for U-matic. The problem may be, as is already tagged by someone else on the SVHS page, that this would be original research. Noise figures are hard to quote for a format, they tend to be quoted in the manuals for each machine from which an inference could be made of a format's performance. Stability is similarly hard to pin down, not least because SVHS, Hi8, Umatic and BetacamSP machines may or may not have digital timebase correctors integrated, which can have varying performance depending on machine model. You may be able to find a quote for a format's chroma resolution though.
