Help with moving/renaming/redirecting[edit]

Hi there, I’ve created an identical page for "Pension investment in private equity" with the proper title = non-capitalized first letters, but I can't delete nor move/redirect the old one... Can you please help? Thanks in advance BJA

I've used the #REDIRECT Pension investment in private equity function. Seems to works. Thanks for your help B.Andersohn (talk

CorenSearchBot tagging CC-by-SA-licensed articles[edit]

Your bot seems to be repeatedly copyright tagging articles being created from sources that are CC-by-SA-licensed, and tagged as such. I'm sure this is getting very annoying for the users doing the transferring. The Drover's Wife (talk) 09:30, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

This sentence is universal sentence about Iran-Iraq war and especially about this book. I fixed the source of the sentence.

List of folk dances of Odisha[edit]

Hi, this is merely a list an I have used the list prepared by Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi of Government of Odisha. Copyvio would not be valid in this case. --Psubhashish (talk) 05:23, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Spurious report on one-liner[edit]

Hi, I have no idea why the bot tagged this. – Fayenatic London 12:35, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

  • Very short drafts are tagged as matching that site a lot. I suspect it is due to percentages of matching text on articles that short. CrowCaw 18:31, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Please whitelist Category:Articles incorporating text from the Queensland Heritage Register (please review) and Category:Articles incorporating text from the Queensland Heritage Register[edit]

The articles being created in these categories are derived from CC-BY text. Please stop tagging them and please stop writing on my user take page about copyvios. Other people read my user page and I presume they are now thinking that I am constantly involved in acts of copyvios when they see so many of these messages appearing. Please whitelist these categories (which I think should be a simple fix) or, as a more comprehensive but probably harder solution, get your bot to recognise a CC-BY attribution in the article body or edit summary. CorenSearchBot license[edit]

Hi! I'm thinking about proposing some anti-copyvio measures on my home wiki, and CorenSearchBot is a very interesting tool:) I see some variables and comments in the source code of the bot that give hints how to run it on any wiki. However, I don't see any license notice in the source file. Would you consider releasing it as free software? --Yury Bulka (talk) 23:18, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Awards 2014[edit]

I created the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Awards 2014 page last night with a cited reference, and it was immediately tagged, then deleted today. Please support my proposal in Wikipedia talk:Community portal[edit]

Currently the portal's section "help out" lacks "Create these articles", "Represent a worldwide view" and "Add historical information", which is odd since there are still plenty of notable uncreated articles, e.g. smokers' rights and Joseph Charles Aub, plenty of articles with geographic imbalances and plenty of articles lacking sufficient historical information, and the issues are no less serious than the fact that there are still many articles requiring update. So please go to that page and support my proposal to add "Create these articles", "Represent a worldwide view" and "Add historical information" to the section "help out".--RekishiEJ (talk) 04:01, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Content from is CC BY-SA 2.0 see They've even built a special tool to make easy uploads to Commons. Is it possible for the bot to be set to not flag text copied from there? -Arb. (talk) 20:33, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

  • Hello Arb, Coren's been away a while, but I've checked that site and confirmed that it is a compatible license (per WP:COMPLIC) as CC-BY-SA 2.0, so I've added it to the CSB whitelist. Since that site is user-generated content, there may still be reliability issues, but since there are no copyright problems, the bot should now leave it alone. (Coren, please feel free to revert me if you disagree). CrowCaw 17:41, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Bot failure level: over 9000[edit]

[2] is quite impressive. External site that is basically a copyvio itself, and has very little to do with the draft, bar a vaguely similar generic AfC template. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 21:50, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Wiki mirror at needs excluding[edit]

A cut and paste move of Sinch to Sinch (band) got flagged as a copyvio of which contains a mirror of the original wiki page. Thanks, Bazj (talk) 09:15, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

  • Hi Basj, yes chordie uses content from hereon artist pages, but they also have a fair amount of other content to which they claim copyright, so excluding the entire site is probably not good. The bot never takes action when it discovers these things though, always leaving it to a human to make the call, and we get lots of these per day. A quick explanation like the one you left here is usually all it takes to close the alert as a false-positive. CrowCaw 19:23, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi, any chance you can edit your corenbot to exclude spamming Rosiestep with copyvio messages and tagging her articles? She does a great deal of good work with PD material and it is very annoying to be given a spam message by your bot as if she's violating something.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:44, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

  • Hi Dr. Blofeld (may I call you Ernst?): I'm not sure where Coren is at these days, but there is a provision to exclude users if the bot warnings become troublesome. It looks like she's only received one such in a couple of years, though. CrowCaw 23:15, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Bot madness[edit]

Coren has kindly informed me that 'my' new article Helen D'Arcy Stewart is a copy of the wikipedia article Helen D'Arcy Stewart. Go figure :). [3] [4] --Tagishsimon (talk) 16:53, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

  • This sort of thing seems to be happening a little too often at the moment IMO. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 16:59, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
    • Interesting to know why. The article is from PD text and attributed by hand rather than using a template, so it's maybe a genuine enough copyvio alert, but for some reason it is mis-specifying the "copied from" value. I've now added {{PD-old-text}}, which had it been used earlier might have spared us this side-issue. --Tagishsimon (talk) 17:23, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
      • Well, the bot only knows about attribution templates which is why it was triggered at all – but the confusion about having itself as the source is an old, known issue that has so far eluded fixing that occurs only in some cases where a straight apostrophe is in the title ('). — Coren (talk) 15:55, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
        • Thx. I'm good with that. Thanks for running the bot. --Tagishsimon (talk) 17:03, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
          • For the record, it has happened twice to me on my new articles Rhyothemis braganza and Rhyothemis graphiptera. I wrote the articles in my user sandbox, then copied and pasted into a new article. I gather from the previous comment, that it may be best to leave the straight apostrophe out of the title, and edit it in afterwards. Summerdrought (talk) 01:19, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

List of Little Lulu characters[edit]

Hi CorenSearchBot. Thanks for the message. I've created the page List of Little Lulu characters just because I noticed a similar page in the Portuguese version of Wikipedia. Then I read the web site link that you posted, and I say that I have not copied at all because the descriptions of the characters are those of the original page (Little Lulu), so I just moved in this new page. About Amblypharyngodon species[edit]

Hi CorenSearchBot. Thanks for the message. I know that both articles are same. I just want to say that this is a synonym of the Amblypharyngodon melenittus. Because, in Sri Lanka, it is treated as two species, and so I want to redirect it. So, if you can redirect the article, it is a pleasure. Thank you.

Witham Third District IDB[edit]

This has been flagged as a possible coptright vio. However www.needaproperty have lifted the text from Witham First District IDB, and have not attributed it to Wikipedia. Surely CorenSearchBot should check other Wikipedia articles before assuming that an organisation with a name like needaproperty is likely to produce its own material about an Internal Drainage Board. Bob1960evens (talk) 19:44, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

  • This is why it takes no action other than to report its findings on the article page and on a copyright investigations page where a human will evaluate it. This case, for example, will be closed as False Positive. By the way, when copying content from one WP article to another, our license does require attribution (See WP:CWW). Thanks for your work, CrowCaw 21:43, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
  • It was only two sentences dealing with events in 1762 which resulted in the creation of both organisations. In both cases they were attributed to a reliable source. Regards. Bob1960evens (talk) 11:41, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Stasi Records Agency[edit]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Stasi Records Agency, and it appears to include material copied directly from

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) CorenSearchBot (talk) 10:49, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

The "new article" is merely the renaming of an existing wiki entry, following discussion on the talk page between the (apprently only two) people who take an interest in the matter. No alleged copyright issues were flagged up under the old title so there is no obvious reason why they should be flagged up now UNLESS (which of course would not be without precedent) someone has copied wiki text to another place subsequent to its appearing in wikipedia. Anyhow, I'll follow the links indicated by your robot and see if I can figure out what is going on with this. You could help by doing the same! Regards Charles01 (talk) 11:18, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Request for bot scan?[edit]

Hi Coren. I've been monitoring a new article since yesterday at Mark Labberton. The primary author of the article has, unintentionally, run amok of copyright issues and twice now I've had to gut his additions to the article because they were direct copy/paste from web resources. I directed the editor to Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources and Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Subsequently, the editor has added a very significant amount of text to the article. Casual passes on this text have produced no hard results, but I am still concerned about it being copied from elsewhere. Is it possible to ask CorenSearchBot to run an article through its tests and see if it finds anything? --Hammersoft (talk) 16:18, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

Yes. All you need to do is add a wikilink to the article to User:CorenSearchBot/manual and it'll scan it again shortly afterwards (and post the result there). — Coren (talk) 17:04, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

Neoneura amelia[edit]

CorenSearchBot flagged the new article Neoneura amelia that I was in the process of writing as a copyvio of this page. In fact the article is a mirror of my entirely original Wikipedia page and the tag is incorrect. igoterra's page now includes a copy of the bot's tag! I persevered with creating the article and igoterra persevered with copying it. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 20:09, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

I see there was a request above on 20 February 2015 to whitelist igoterra. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 20:16, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Don't worry, the bot only notifies when it finds matching text, then leaves it to a real person to analyze. You're fine, as the igoterra site is clearly a mirror of your article. I'm leery of whitelisting the site, because they pull content from many sources, Wikipedia being one, so we can't be certain that content found there is always properly licensed. Thanks for your work! CrowCaw 23:11, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
OK, thanks. This did happen once before, about a year ago. If it happens again, can I just remove the tag? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:06, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
If you do, you might want to be explicit in the edit summary about why you did. There's no rule against it, of course, but many patrollers will be see someone removing a tag placed by the bots on an article they created themselves as somewhat suspect (for understandable reasons). Either way, you don't need to fear automated deletion – as Crow noted, only actual humans act on them.  :-) — Coren (talk) 14:14, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Wikimedia Tool Labs[edit]

Hi Coren, I don't know whether you're the right person to ask about this, but I believe I saw you write about it once, so I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction. It's about the "page information" tool in the toolbox next to articles. This is a very helpful set of information, particularly the list of contributors. It's important to be able to see this, including when reviewing articles for GA and FA, and for sock and COI investigations.

Since the tool moved from Germany to the Foundation, it has been inaccessible a lot, sometimes completely so, sometimes so slow that we get time-outs. Currently, there's a notice saying "no web service": "The URI you have requested ... is not currently serviced."

Who can we approach in the Foundation who might help to have this fixed and stabilized? Sarah (SV) (talk) 21:08, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

I'm not sure, exactly, what you mean in that specific case. For me, at least, Page information on the sidebar leads to a page that is generated by the Mediawiki core and not a volunteer-managed tool (e.g.: it leads me to this for instance).
If you mean something else that is on Tool Labs (perhaps you have a gadget that leads you elsewhere?) then it may be possible for the Foundation to help its maintainer or to take the tool under its wing if it is critical. There's no set process for this, but I've been in deep discussion with the WMF upper management about the increasing importance of Labs and the need to allocate resources for things such as this and having a good example to point to may help stimulate more movement in that direction. — Coren (talk) 21:18, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
P.S.: I was exactly the right person to approach with this, in case you were wondering.  :-) — Coren (talk) 21:20, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, Coren. Sorry, I meant the external tools at the bottom of the page information link. It used to be easy to call up the list of contributors to any given article, via the toolserver in Germany. Since it moved to the Foundation, it has been down a lot. At the moment it's called "Revision history statistics" and leads to this, which says there is no service. I noticed after I wrote to you that there's a discussion on the PUMP, as there often is about this. One thing gets fixed, then there's something else. I was wondering whether there's anything the Foundation can do to help keep this information online. Sarah (SV) (talk) 21:33, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
@SlimVirgin: Tools written by volunteers are subject to their maintainer's availability to, well, maintain them. This can be alleviated somewhat by sharing the work between more people, but I am of the opinion that the more important (often used, or critical to a workflow) should be shouldered directly by the Foundation when it's possible to do so. Right now, we don't have the resources necessary for this. This may be in the process of changing as Labs seems to be getting a bigger mindshare within the Foundation and I've been "evangelizing" the concept a lot.

In the meantime, I'm more than happy to do point fixes or shore up a tool that's having issues though I can do little more than apply a band-aid. I see the xtools-articleinfo tool was down, and I restarted it. I can't tell you how long that will last, however, as logs show a numbers of bugs in its code that cause it to crash. The maintainers are Cyberpower678 and Technical 13; you may want to contact them to see if they are able to examine their logs and hunt down the bug? — Coren (talk) 02:19, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, Coren. I know almost nothing about the technical side, what's done by staff v volunteers, etc, so it's hard for me to work out what to request. I see something different now from yesterday when there was nothing, but still no contributor list. I was hoping that the Foundation would be willing to take over just this one tool and make it stable. Sarah (SV) (talk) 22:36, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

bot down?[edit]

Hi, Coren! Is it possible that your invaluable bot is taking a well-earned rest? Could it have been fazed at not finding a subpage for 31 March? Could you ask it to resume its work? We'd all be grateful. Best regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:45, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

It fell victim to the same outage as many others laste March 30, and while I spend quite some effort making sure everything was back up I, of course, neglected to check mine. — Coren (talk) 12:43, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
  • Hi Coren and Justlettersandnumbers. On This Page is a list I complied of all new-page creations by new accounts (all I can get with the current available toolset), in all namespaces except File, between the CSB's last tag on the 29th and its first tag on the first. Can the bot be run against this list? I didn't want to paste it all into the ad-hoc page without checking, but I can do that as well, (assuming the ad-hoc page will populate the SCV page). @Coren: In that same vein, it should also look for {{dual}} (the CC and GFDL variant of {{CC-notice}}). You should also look at the talk page for {{Text release}}, {{ConfirmationOTRS}}, {{OTRS pending}}, and {{OTRS permission}}, but I imagine that's not as straightforward (instead of looking for those talk page templates, you could also look if the talk page is in Category:Items pending OTRS confirmation of permission‎, Category:Items with OTRS permission confirmed‎, or Category:Articles with imported freely licensed text). --Ahecht (TALK

  • The talk page messages are a different kettle of fish (if only because they pretty much never exist at the time the article is created), and I'd rather not rely on them – although no doubt the human editors that patrol matches will. I'll add {{dual}} as soon as I get a chance though. — Coren (talk) 21:06, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

OHSAA East/Southeast Regions athletic conferences[edit]

This article was created as part of a readjusting of the Ohio high school athletic conferences page in order to split the information into OHSAA-defined regions. This is a false positive, since the [6] page has copied directly from the Wikipedia page, and the info for the page is copy/pasted from the aforementioned Wiki article itself. There will be four more pages made (Central, Northeast, Northwest, and Southwest), all with the original athletic conferences page as its originator. Mtndrums (talk) 00:27, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Prix Émile-Nelligan[edit]

CorenSearchBot flagged this page as a possible copyright violation of pagemile-Nelligan which is actually a cut & paste of French Wikipedia page Prix Émile-Nelligan as it would have appeared around 2006 (including the "Lien externe" (External link) and "Voir aussi" (See also), although the comoria site gives no credit. The French Wikipedia page was created in 2005. I have removed the CorenSearchBot notice. Note that, even if the comoria site had been legitimate, this is a list of award recipients and so any site reporting this information would be somewhat similar in presentation and content. --Big_iron (talk) 12:06, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Sounds right to me. CSBot is just a dumb bot and is only just smart enough to point out that two pages look too alike, but not whether the similarity is legitimate or not – that's why it leaves everything to human review.  :-) — Coren (talk) 12:45, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on your user page, User talk:Ait.palakkad, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be blatant advertising which only promotes or publicises a company, product, group or service, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages; user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Bot could use some help[edit]

Hey Coren. I know I've said before that this bot is amazing. It is! Anything can do with improvement though :) Well, anything man made. Anyway... I'm untangling a difficult problem with a number of articles pertaining to the University of Santo Tomas. I tossed a number of articles linked from Template:UST, which the bot dutifully processed. Quite a few of the results indicated the bot thought the article deleted. For example, University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Arts and Letters. More importantly, it found University of Santo Tomas College of Tourism and Hospitality Management to be clear of copyright violations, yet it's in significant part lifted directly from the organization's website at [10]. Thoughts? --Hammersoft (talk) 18:25, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Interesting. I'll be doing a few manual runs to look at the internals over those articles, there may be something in common to them that confuses the bot. — Coren (talk) 19:10, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Strange Bot Bug?[edit]

Hi Coren, this is a bit of bot behaviour I've not seen before: [11]. Ideas? Thanks as always! CrowCaw 22:39, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

That's... downright insane. The URL wouldn't have been recognized by the bot as being an enwiki page because of the odd url and the indirect index.php invokation – but I have not a clue why the search engine would even have proposed this as a search result in the first place! I'm going to classify this as an odd fluke unless it reoccurs, maybe something at Yahoo got confused and followed a redlink and gave the hit because the title looks in it but once CSBot looked at it there was content? Really, really odd. — Coren (talk) 22:59, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
Hi, same problem with Malayan local elections, 1956 it appears. Widy9 (talk) 15:02, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Speaking of strange taggings, this one was triggered on two templates and a references title. There's probably no simple way to whitelist this without limiting CSB's usefulness for AFC or draft submissions, but maybe the raw minimum threshold for triggering a warning can be adjusted. Thank you for conducting search content on articles I posted. In regards to Chinese naval auxiliaries, I used the same format for different ships (see photos of different ships in the reference source). Per the reference source, these ship classes consist of only a single unit, so the only difference are pennant numbers. The more obvious difference is visual, when viewing the photos of these ships, they are readily distinguished, but I cannot post any photos due to copy right. This is why different ships appear very similar because I use the same format.

Hi there,

(Partial) mirror[edit]

World Public Libarary/World Heritage Encyclopedia hosted at, for example, claims to have material from many other sources as well. Each page(?) carries a "Citational Source" link, which in this case links to the WP article concerned.

Might it be possible to exclude pages which have one or more "Citational Source" links back to WP, if they have no other "Citational Source" links?

Ways to exclude a certain URL from CorenSearchBot's searches[edit]

Is there a way to exclude this page from the Search bot's listings? It creates a number of false positives on unfinished AfC submissions. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:33, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

  • I've excluded it. Feel free to revert me if improper. CrowCaw 00:16, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks to the bot-writer![edit]

Thanks for your bot's finding the screwup in my script. I was actually unaware that it even had the ability to create pages on its own. I suppose that's what happens when you reuse source code without carefully reading it. DemocraticLuntz (talk) 22:48, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

CorenBot warning because of a website that uses materials from Wikipedia[edit]

Hi Coren, I created the page Weightlifting at the 1988 Summer Olympics – Men's 56 kg and I used the same style from Weightlifting at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's 56 kg. It worked fine with other pages (52 kg and +110 kg as examples) but now I am warned because I am suspected to copy from the copyrighted web content from this website. This website is copyrighted but used material from Wikipedia ! (This article is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License. It uses material from the Wikipedia article "Weightlifting at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's 56 kg".Everything.Explained.At is © Copyright 2009-2014, A B Cryer, All Rights Reserved. )

Any help appreciated. Thank you. Griff88 (talk) 06:49, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

On holiday?[edit]

Hi, Coren! I was wondering, is CorenSearchBot taking a short (and richly deserved) late summer holiday? Because it doesn't seem to have edited since about Happy Hour on 30 August … and we're beginning to run low on suspected copyvios to check up on. Best regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:18, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

  • Looks like recent Labs NFS problems took it offline. I'm checking on IRC to see if someone can restart it. Coren himself may also be on a well-deserved vacation, though there is an alternate maintainer. CrowCaw 22:26, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Invitation to subscribe to the edit filter mailing list[edit]

Hi, as a user in the edit filter manager user group we wanted to let you know about the new wikipedia-en-editfilters mailing list. As part of our recent efforts to improve the use of edit filters on the English Wikipedia it has been established as a venue for internal discussion by edit filter managers regarding private filters (those only viewable by administrators and edit filter managers) and also as a means by which non-admins can ask questions about hidden filters that wouldn't be appropriate to discuss on-wiki. As an edit filter manager we encourage you to subscribe; the more users we have in the mailing list the more useful it will be to the community. If you subscribe we will send a short email to you through Wikipedia to confirm your subscription, but let us know if you'd prefer another method of verification. I'd also like to take the opportunity to invite you to contribute to the proposed guideline for edit filter use at WP:Edit filter/Draft and the associated talk page. Thank you! Please sign new Wikimedia confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information by 15 December[edit]

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

Wmf logo vert pms.svg

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have access to nonpublic information and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. The general confidentiality agreement is now ready, and the OTRS agreement will be ready after 22 September 2015. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me ( Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

False positive on First Kernow[edit]

CorenSearchBot detected First Kernow as a copyvio of but that site looks to be a Wikipedia mirror. I suggest to add it to the list of sites that do not trigger the detector. Also it seems to lack any acknowledgement of our copyrights and licence, which might be why the bot fails to realise that it is a mirror. They also don't seem to have any contact details or method that I can see. I don't know where best to report that so if you can give the appropriate forum a heads up that would be great. Thanks. --DanielRigal (talk) 22:07, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Wikimania 2017[edit]

Congratulations and good luck with the preparations, Coren! 2017 will be here in no time! Liz Read! Talk! 21:30, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

I suppose, given the leak, that it makes little sense for me to be coy about it (though I'm a little disappointed that this news ends up spreading without proper context). Thank you – we're currently champing at the bit, but I fully expect we'll be in "oh my god why in hell did we sign up for this" frantic mode 20 months from now.  :-)

That said, we're looking forward to hosting the community in Montreal and we have a few ideas we hope will make that Wikimania a memorable one! (More news later, as the leak caught us flatfooted and we don't have a proper announcement ready yet). — Coren (talk) 23:20, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

I'm leaving my congratulations, too, Coren. Montreal has always been on my bucket list, and now I have a good reason to go. Best, --Rosiestep (talk) 00:15, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

Article was about Vetbook which is a non profit organization of my own.( I tried to write an article about it; however that I found your had deleted it. Draft versions of Wikipedia articles[edit]

It is often desirable to create a draft version of a Wikipedia article to facilitate collaboration, especially when the mainspace article is protected for whatever reason. Most recently I created Draft:Causal loop to demonstrate some changes to Causal loop which is currently protected. Would it be possible to turn off the bot's warnings in these cases? Regards — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:33, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

It was an intentional editing on order to resolve the ambiguity in Wikidata about "Synchrony" and "Synchronic". Please, note there was the page for "Synchronic" and one for "Synchrony", one for "Diachronic" but not for "Diachrony". A few Wikis' like the English one have a common page for both ("Synchrony and diachrony"), sometimes in common with the redirect to "Dicotomias saussureanas". Creating the page "Diachrony" I've been able to substitute "Diachronic" with "Diachrony" in Wikidata. --Skyfall (talk) 15:52, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Searchbot glitch[edit]

I recently submitted History of South Africa an article that in the past has had problems.[12][13]. Searchbot concluded that History of South Africa was a copyright violation of itself, Edward321 (talk) 23:23, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Multiple copyvios[edit]

I would like to report that three near-identical articles were created Homs offensive (October 2015), Daraa offensive (October 2015) and the Damascus countryside offensive (October 2015). The editor in question who made all three articles just had his original one article on the events deleted following a majority talk page discussion. It seems now he partially recreated the said article under the cover of three different article names. EkoGraf (talk) 14:19, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

  • POV-forking aside, what article are these 3 copyvios of? Crow Caw 14:30, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
Of eachother. All three are near-identical. Not to mention the text was taken out of an article that was deleted and now recreated, thus violating a deletion decision. Coren already, justly, noted that another 2 articles this guy created were copyvios of themselves (Latakia offensive (October 2015) & Quneitra offensive (October 2015)). Before I redirected both to already existing articles on the subjects. EkoGraf (talk) 20:04, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Michael Lombari (financial guru)[edit]

The author bio was taken from which is a website the author owns. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Moulder78 (talkcontribs) 13:56, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but that doesn't suffice - the text needs to either demonstrably be published with a compatible license or we need explicit permission to do so ourselves from the right holder. But, beyond that, in general text written by the subject of an article is unlikely to be suitable for inclusion because it's a clear conflict of interest and does not comply with our requirements for sourcing. — Coren (talk) 19:51, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

Public domain imports[edit]

I've been tagged by CorenSearchBot a few times adding 19th century public domain text to Wikipedia. I add Template:Yaleobit to each article to indicate its copyright status. I don't mind getting tagged by the bot, I just worry I'm making work for others sorting through the bot's results. Is there something I should be doing differently or should I just ignore it? Gamaliel (talk) 14:53, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

There's nothing you can do, but there is something I can do: I'll add that template to the list of templates CSBot knows to be indicating a text known to be in the public domain.  :-) You shouldn't get needlessly annoyed by the bot starting soon. — Coren (talk) 16:49, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
Thank you! Gamaliel (talk) 17:23, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
Alternatively - seek out proper sourcing for such cases - I did George Goodyear easily in a few minutes without parsing a "public domain" source so literally. Collect (talk) 21:00, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

This is regarding the message i received - This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Draft:Daniel Fernandes (Comedian), and it appears to include material copied directly from

The article Daniel Fernandes (Comedian) is not copied from any page, that was the previous page which i created which was deleted. I have made changes and added new references to this new draft. Kindly check .

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
