Image use on Inro

[edit]

I commented on my reasons for removing 2 of the images on the article's talk page, but am dropping you a note as well since I noticed that your edits here are somewhat infrequent. If you could please discuss further there or draw in other editors if you think that is warranted before reverting my edits, that would be appreciated.

I respectfully disagree that the 2 images that I removed are absolutely necessary to be shown in the article in its current state as they were, for the following reasons:

  1. Article length, as I mentioned. I probably should have been more clear in my edit summary. I believe that articles should maintain some semblance of balance in regards to how text and images are used and should not be overillustrated. In the previous format, 3 images stacked on top of each other on the right side of the article was three times longer visually than the text itself. I don't see how anyone can argue that this is proper placement. What if there were 6 images of inro stacked on the right side? Now you have a mess. As for adding additional text - I note that you started the article more than 2 years ago but it has not progressed since then beyond stub status. I am not as well versed on the subject as you are and am not going to start conducting research into a topic that is very new to me in order to satisfy your demands that the article get to a certain length to justify that the 3 images stay as they were stacked on the right side. I think that if someone with some familiarity into the subject who started the article more than 2 years ago is unable to expand it further and neither are subsequent editors, then it looks like for now that that is as long as it can go.
  2. The images are already accessible on Commons. I created the inro category and linked to it to provide this as a point of reference to readers. You deleted this attempt to add to the article. As a Commons user you should have no worries about the images getting deleted just because no project is using them unless someone raises a deletion request for some reason. If readers want to look for further examples then they can go here. You could set up a gallery format to display the images within the article body with additional commentary. However I tend to disagree with this use of galleries especially if they start to get overly long, as galleries can also be set up in Commons as well and linked to that will provide the same function. Gallery use in my opinion, especially if it contains a lot of images from Commons or that are Commons-eligible, takes away from the Commons function as a media repository and should usually be avoided.

Article improvement sometimes involves taking away instead of adding where warranted. If I remove something it is usually because I did not feel at the time that its presence was helping an article out. I know that you started the article and provided 2 out of the 3 images, but would also ask you to keep in mind WP:OWN, as it seems to me that this may have crept in.
