Hello, and thanks for taking the trouble to rate 1892–93 Small Heath F.C. season. If you have the time, could you possibly give me an idea of what you think it needs (adding or taking away) to warrant a B? Images, obviously: there's a good picture of Fred Wheldon on his page but I'm put off by the kit he's wearing ;-) Also, do you think the match details should be where they are, in their own section and arranged by competition, or might it be easier to follow if they were split up by month, all competitions together and in with the text for that month? thanks, Struway2 (talk) 13:48, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bit of feedback: I've added the strips, and colour-coded the W/D/L column to highlight the result, which is a definite improvement, but left it at that, personally I'm not keen on great swathes of pink and green screen. If there was a neat and tidy way to have the squad stats sortable, I'd do it, but the only one I've found is messy. A transfer table is problematic: all the arrivals and departures that definitely happened between the 1892 and 1893 close-seasons inclusive are included in the prose, but I'm fairly sure it's not a complete list. As to pictures, the only one I've got of the ground is this, in various versions, which features a terrace-cover erected in 1897. They built a grandstand in 1894, but AFAIK before that date the "stadium" was just uncovered terraces round the pitch. I have seen an early picture, can't remember where, but it must have been somewhere I couldn't copy it or I would have done :-) One good thing though, when looking for ground pictures I came across a key for the team photo with the trophy, so there are names now to go with the faces. Thanks ever so much for your help, Struway2 (talk) 13:59, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorted :-) Still working on pictures. thanks again, Struway2 (talk) 18:01, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Now nominated for GA. Just a thought, seeing as you work on historical stuff. For the next few months, I've got online access to a variety of 19th-century newspapers, national and local including Hampshire Telegraph, Southampton Herald, so if there's anything you'd like me to look up, check, verify, please feel free to ask. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:27, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Please advise your colleague that we'll do our best to comply, but if his lot keep on defending like they did on Saturday, and are as ineffective in front of goal as on Saturday, they'll be doing well to stay above Blackpool, let alone us :-) cheers,Struway2 (talk) 13:31, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain how you know that F.W. Bain was a member of the two 19th-century football clubs that you recently categorized him into? I am really curious. Thanks, —Mark Dominus (talk) 12:31, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My recent edits[edit]

Left you a response at User_talk:Zanoni - I do think it would be worth a discussion at Wiki Project Football as most of the squad lists/ rosters are not dated for non-league sides (especially lower not league sides and as such with a very high turnover of players during a season, the lists get very quickly out of date. Zanoni (talk) 09:43, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I was wondering if any of the books you have can shed much more light on this fellow? Argyle 4 Lifetalk 03:38, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help. Liverpool's official website gives his date of birth as 1 January 1903, but books just give it as 1883, like you say, so I'm not sure what to go for. I'll create the article at Dickie Morris and redirect Richard Morris (footballer). I'm going to nominate it for a DYK when I'm done so you're welcome to add in your sources and anything that I missed and I'll list you as a co-nominator. I doubt we'll get an owner as wealthy as Markus, but there are stories going around that the preferred bidders are some of the people in this group. Good luck in the second division next season, I wouldn't be surprised if you do a Norwich City. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 21:47, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, further to previous question I asked on him[1] can you check whether your Welsh international book confirms he was the Tranmere manager in 1946. This link confirms a Tommy Jones was manager in 1946 but I'm just aware of the popularity of the name. Thanks. Eldumpo (talk) 12:48, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PS - how do you archive your talk page messages. I'm going to have to think about doing this soon. Eldumpo (talk) 12:49, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for response. I have added some text and also the manager info to the infobox, but not the coach-only roles. One query though - in your message you say he was WBA's assistant trainer, but the existing text said physio, so can you double check that?
Re archive, how do you get the archive dates to appear in the top right of your user talk? I must admit I assumed it worked in a more automated way than it does. Eldumpo (talk) 19:28, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for doing that. Eldumpo (talk) 19:40, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Need help in finding links for an abandoned orphan[edit]

Hail Daemonic Kangaroo! We last exchanged messages when I was completely new to Wikipedia. Since then, though, I seem to have become hooked on the Wikipedia Orphanage project (at the beginning of the year, when it was part of the Wikipedia Backlog Drive). I have just come across an orphaned page to Jimmy Archibald. I see no easy way, myself, of finding other pages that could link to his page. Can I ask you to have a look, and see if you can find any, yourself. Thanks in advance. TheAMmollusc (talk) 11:02, 25 May 2011 (UTC) (PS: I hadn't realised, until I saw it just a few minutes ago, that we also have Southampton FC as a common interest... not that my knowledge can fill a postage stamp, though).[reply]

Corinthians[edit]

I've had a query in the GA review of 1926 FA Cup Final about something I wrote about Corinthians (in the section about earlier rounds), and I saw that you have a book about the club. Is what I put about their previous non-entry to the FA Cup accurate? My sources only put it in a roundabout way, so I thought it best to double check. South Coast derby[edit]

You just reverted on South Coast derby. BothUser:Fluffernutter and myself have done that then promptly seen it is actually a legitimate edit and not vandalism. Check the source.—Tom Morris (talk) 16:11, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

SS Ava[edit]

Noticed this at DYK. SS Ava should be a {{shipindex}} page, with all ships currently listed in the "Other ships of the same name" section listed there. The current article should be moved to SS Ava (1855) - you can move this yourself then convert the resulting redirect to the ship index page. Once this is done, the section in the article can be replaced with an {{otherships}} hatnote at the top of the article. I've not done a detailed check, but my gut feeling is that the article is not long enough if you discount the three sections of quoted text. This could be countered by a section describing the ship - builder, measurements, propulsion, engine builder etc.Mjroots (talk) 10:17, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looking good. Although there's no need to have refs on a shipindex page, I don't think there's any policy against having them either. As you say, makes and easy point of reference. I've now passed that article for DYK. Mjroots (talk) 19:49, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Santiago[edit]

Cheers for pointing that out - I've corrected the hook. Number 57 19:30, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oscar Gobern[edit]

You reverted my edit about scar Gobern, claiming 'no evidence' that he's moved to Huddesfield. This, despite the fact his own page refers to it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Gobern - one of the two pages is wrong; so can you either undo your revert or edit the player page please. I'd note that there's a BBC story also implying him as out of contract (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8792027.stm), so I don't think he'll still be at Saints next season.VJ (talk) 16:26, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply, I wasn't trying to rush to announce a transfer, it's just as I understood it he's already out of contract, and has been for a while. It was only meant to be a drive by edit - I didn't go to Saints page just to make it; I just saw it was wrong & checked the player page to confirm my suspicions. Indeed, I only removed him from the Saints squad list, I didn't add him to the Huddersfield squad list as there's a tribunal being decided so the transfer isn't complete at that end. I'm not going to argue as I've just seen the club spokesman (Jordan Sibley) has said there'll be a press conference about this tomorrow (on twitter). There should be a whole bunch of reliable sources soon telling us exactly what's happened :-) . VJ (talk) 18:42, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
