CR question
Do the counties officially add their names to CR names? In other words, is the official name "County Road 1" or "Foo County Road 1"? If it's the former, you probably shouldn't be using the county names that way in subheadings. I know that in Michigan, the county name isn't a part of the road's official alphanumerical designation from the county road commissions. You can always use "County Road 1 in Foo County", "County Road 1 in Foo and Bar counties" or just "County Road 1". (Note, when dealing with multiple counties, the word "counties" becomes a plural and loses its capital letter.) Imzadi 1979 → 23:10, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- In some places they do, and in some places they don't. In the case of Marion-Putnam CR 21, I have no idea what the name is in Marion County, if it exists at all. But as I mentioned in the article, it has a name in Putnam County. Mostly I left the name there so I don't have to go through all the trouble of adding a shield, which BTW I'm going to have to request from the Shields Task Force at some point when I work on a list of CR's in Bradford County, Florida, or at least for Bradford CR 21B in the SR 21 article. ----DanTD (talk) 23:31, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

- There is a County Road 21 that goes from Marion County to Putnam County, so technically there is. It only seems to be named "Baden Powell Road" in Putnam County, though. ----DanTD (talk) 00:04, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- So there is a "County Road 21 in Marion County" and a "County Road 21 in Putnam County", which means there are two roads called "County Road 21 in Marion and Putnam counties", but there isn't a single "Marion–Putnam County" to be the home of a single "Marion–Putnam County Road 21". Punctuation, word order and capitalization all matter, and they all alter meaning. That's why it's best not to try to shoe-horn county names into the designation if the counties don't do so themselves. - Another thought, but the construction "Marion–Putnam", with an en dash (–) not a hyphen (-) carries the linguistic sense of "Marion to Putnam" or the place they oppose each other, like the "Marion–Putnam county line", not a merger of the two. If the roadway ran along the county line, you could make a case that it's "Marion–Putnam CR 21", but it doesn't so you can't. It's two separate county roads in two separate counties that share a number. Imzadi 1979 → 01:03, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- That particular county road is County Road 21 in both Marion and Putnam Counties, so it's really the same road. Plus, there's really so little of it in Marion County, that a separate section for Marion County and Putnam County CR 21 is pointless. - No, they are two connected and similarly numbered roads, unless Putnam County maintains the road in Marion County. Putnam County's CR 21 designation ends at the county line, and Marion County's CR 21 designation begins at the county line, although it is the same physical roadway. BTW, if an article is missing marker graphics (what are incorrectly called "shields"), {{jct}} adds it to Category:Jct template transclusions with missing shields automatically. So I pulled the under construction banner from SR 21 since it's no longer being overhauled. Imzadi 1979 → 22:02, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
