Biographies of filmmakers[edit]

Hello! Just a reminder, the Film project does not cover biography articles. Therefore, please do not add the {{WikiProject Film}} banner to articles about actors, directors and filmmakers. Those articles are covered by adding |filmbio-work-group=yes to {{WikiProject Biography}} instead. Thanks! Fortdj33 (talk) 13:17, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello! Just a reminder, {{WikiProject Film}} does not cover biography articles such as actors and filmmakers. This applies to all of the film task forces as well, which means that the Indian cinema task force does not include articles about Indian actors, directors and filmmakers, and consequently should not have the |cinema=yes parameter on the {{WikiProject India}} banner. Thanks! Fortdj33 (talk) 13:53, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

A barnstar for you![edit]

Barnstar of Diligence Hires.png The Barnstar of Diligence
I deal with a lot of shenanigans on Wikipedia. I first saw your contribution to two toothpaste articles that were mistakenly downgraded in class, so I assumed "shenanigans". Sorry bout that. But then I saw that you have completed a monstrous mountain of accurate and technical work on categorization and rating. So to commemorate that, I double checked and enhanced a lot of them, like removing {{stub}} tags from non-stubs and other things. Good job. — Smuckola(talk) 19:35, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

Hatch bell foundry[edit]

Hi, thanks for assessing this article. I'm intrigued that it merits a "C", as I'm not sure there's anything out there to be added to the article, particularly given that the foundry is only known to have existed for less than 100 years, several hundred years ago. Any pointers to what's missing would be gratefully received! Cheers. Nortonius (talk) 14:51, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

@Nortonius: When I assess an article, I only assess up to "C" because it would take someone who has spent more time with the article than me to make the "mostly complete and without major problems" determination of "B" class or higher. In other words, if you see me assess an article at "C", please interpret it as "class is at least a "C"—anything higher requires thoughtful review by someone else". Also, when I set out on my "bulk assessment" task back in June of 2014, I vowed to never contest an assessment after the fact, and I have stuck to this through the approximately 50 articles that editors have contested (that I have noticed) out of thousands assessed. If you feel the article warrants a "B" or "A" rating, feel free to change it. Given all that, if you're still looking for inspiration as to what content could be added for any company-related article, I'd suggest reviewing Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Companies/Guidelines#Content Guidelines. DanielPenfield (talk) 13:44, 7 February 2016 (UTC)
Great, thanks for the response – that's absolutely fine, and I've no intention of contesting anything, I really was just intrigued. It was the first article of its type that I'd attempted, and at the time I didn't see an awful lot about bellfounders on WP that I wanted to emulate. I've tended to take an interest in very few articles but then work on them quite intensively, so I have no clue about assessing, beyond the criteria that are there for all to see. I'm more interested in getting an article to GA than worrying about an interim assessment, I just thought I'd ask in case you had any specific thoughts. Thanks for the tip, and keep up the good work. Cheers. Nortonius (talk) 16:38, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

International Hat Company article quality assessment[edit]

DanielPenfield, thank you for taking the time to fully read and critically analyze this article in your individual review. I would appreciate your input in terms of why this article was given a C-classification instead of a B-classification, in terms of which of the following areas, in your individual review, demonstrably failed (B1 or B2):

  • B1. It is suitably referenced, and all major points have appropriate inline citations.
  • B2. It reasonably covers the topic, and does not contain obvious omissions or inaccuracies.
  • B3. It has a defined structure, including a lead section and one or more sections of content.
  • B4. It is free from major grammatical errors.
  • B5. It contains appropriate supporting materials, such as an infobox, images, or diagrams

If you could kindly provide this information, I would very much appreciate it. I've put in over 400 edits and 3 years of research into the article so I don't want to have a conflict of interest in individually grading this article myself. But I have worked really hard on it and am trying to improve the article quality the best I can within the limits of what research material remains of a 25 year defunct private company. I have even been in contact with military helmet experts, such as Peter Suciu, with researching secondary sources for the article and some of the things in the article they were not aware of themselves; so as far as criteria B2 goes, I feel that might be important to keep in mind with B2. But I feel the assessment specifics would be useful in further evaluation of the article, so thank you. (Belshay (talk) 17:59, 27 March 2016 (UTC))

@Belshay: When I assess an article, I only assess up to "C" because it would take someone who has spent more time with the article than me to make the "mostly complete and without major problems" (B2) determination of "B" class or higher. @DanielPenfield:Hi DanielPenfield, thank you kindly for your note and your analysis. I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I have requested outside assessment from other members of wiki:companies than myself but it can be a pretty sparse participation compared to some other projects. But, anyway, it is helpful knowing that you go up to C and don't take the individual review process further. In the mean time, I will continue working on the article. Thanks (Belshay (talk) 03:43, 28 March 2016 (UTC))

New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support.

Join us for a full Sunday of social Wikipedia editing at the Center for Jewish History (drop-in any time!), during which we will create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles pertaining to Women in Jewish History.

All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required.

Expanding coverage of Jewish women on Wikipedia makes these women and their creations discoverable, addresses the gender bias on Wikipedia in a positive way, and works to correct imbalances archival collecting practice and institutional projects that have historically silenced women's narratives.

A training session on editing Wikipedia will be held at 12:30 pm. Experienced Wikipedians will be on-hand to assist throughout the day. Please bring your laptop and power cord; we will have library resources, WiFi, and a list of suggested topics on hand.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Make edits! Ask questions! Be bold!

Time: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Location: Center for Jewish History, 15 West 16th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues), New York City, New York 10011

Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) 15:01, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

P.S. Stay tuned / sign up early for our June 15 WikiWednesday and other upcoming events.

2016 Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Search Community Survey[edit]

One of our first tasks is to write the job description of the executive director position, and we are asking for input from the Wikimedia community. Please take a few minutes and complete this survey to help us better understand community and staff expectations for the Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director.

Importance of CCM[edit]

Hi, following your lowering of the importance of Customer Communications Management I've restored it to Mid: I think your claim which sounds like personal opinion is no justification for Low. You are welcome to discuss that on the talk page in question. Cheers, VonBlinkendenzwoelf (talk) 11:42, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Emilio Delgado[edit]

Your recent edit to talk:Emilio Delgado has an edit summary saying that it added a wikiproject, but it one of the results is that it dropped WikiProject Oregon. Is that intentional? —EncMstr (talk) 08:03, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

@EncMstr: According to the article in its current form, Delgado's only connection to Oregon is that he once performed at a concert hall and a zoo there, so I assumed it was an error. If WP:WikiProject Oregon also includes anyone who has ever put on a show in the state, I'd never stand in the way of them doing that. -- DanielPenfield (talk) 08:35, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
I suspect being associated with Pink Martini—a Portland, Oregon band—is the basis of the Oregon adoption. Probably Pete knows more since he added the tag in 2009.
@EncMstr: No, it appears it's because the article was in Category:People from Ashland, Oregon back in 2009 (see [2]), but was removed from that category in 2013. I believe the "best practice" is to leave an HTML comment next to the wikiproject when the connection between the article and a wikiproject is unclear, so that's what I've done. -- DanielPenfield (talk) 06:35, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
