Welcome to WikiProject LGBT studies![edit]

Drawing-Gay flag.png

Hi, Decafdyke, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

Deletion of List of female basketball players?![edit]

Hi There. I noticed that you made an effort to improve the List of female basketball players back in Nov. and thought you might want to know that someone has placed an "Article for deletion" tag on it. I have just added the Hang-on tag and will post my reasons. You're welcome to join the discussion. Deebki 12:34, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for being fair at the teach-for-america article[edit]

I am thankful you didn't just delete everything or wipe out my entire edit (undone E359107s edit by a ip-vandal). I didn't hear it went to trial though? Are you sure that the source is accurate? I don't have any news subscriptions, but apparently I heard this story wrong. The media made a mistake because I was so distraught over this story back when it happened, I watched the news daily to hear developments.

Thanks, plus I'm a LGBT supporter too!

Happy holidays,

Thanks re Lieberman[edit]

I don't know why I couldn't find that ref, but I'm happy you did. And nice cleanup of several items on that page. --SPhilbrickT 11:18, 30 July 2009 (UTC) By the way, I assume there's an interesting story to tell - Nancy drops out of school in 1980, then returns to complete her degree in 2000, but I haven't found any discussion of it. If you have any sources telling the story, it would be a nice addition to answer an obvious question.--SPhilbrickT 12:36, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Freddie Prinze edit[edit]

In regards to your edit to the Freddie Prinze bio here and the edit summary you used "If she changed her name in 2007, she shouldn't be referred to by the old name for a 2009 event" it is Wikipedia policy[3] to refer to the name someone is commonly known by rather than the technically correct name

Common usage in reliable sources is preferred to technically correct but rarer forms, whether the official name, the scientific name, the birth name, the original name or the trademarked name.

Professionally[4] she is still known as Gellar and is referred to as such in news articles etc which is why Gellar is still used in articles . Garda40 (talk) 01:10, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

do not intend to pursue the edit further
Nothing to pursue anyway since I haven't touched your edit and the wording is as you left it .Garda40 (talk) 18:22, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Pride 2014[edit]

Hi Decafdyke. In case you are not aware, there is an upcoming campaign to improve coverage of LGBT-related topics on Wikipedia, culminating with an international edit-a-thon on June 21. See Wiki Loves Pride 2014 for more information. If you are interested, you might consider creating a page for a major city (or cities!) near you, with a list of LGBT-related articles that need to be created or improved. This would be a tremendous help to Wikipedia and coverage of LGBT culture and history. Thanks for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any questions! --Another Believer (Talk) 16:10, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Pride![edit]

You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride!

  • What? Wiki Loves Pride, a campaign to document and photograph LGBT culture and history, including pride events

1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Wikipedia articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)
3.) Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

Or, view or update the current list of Tasks. This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. Invitation to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Women's Football / Soccer Task Force News: August 2017

Should the women's football task force become WikiProject: WOSO?

Sam Kerr playing against USWNT 2012.jpg

According to an op-ed in the recent Signpost, some editors think task forces and subgroups are dying in 2017.

What do you think about forming our own WikiProject separate from WP:FOOTY? There's an on-going discussion of the potential pros and cons on the task force talk page. Input is welcome.

Recent developments

New initiatives have been created for:

  • FA WSL (England's top-division league)
  • NCAA (American university teams, conferences, etc.)
  • W-League (Australia's top-division league)
Ongoing tournaments
Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues
Did you know?

While WP:FPL lists only two women's top-division leagues as notable due to its "fully professional" criteria, did you know you can create an article on any player in any league as long as the references meet WP:GNG guidelines? Make sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}.

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks page if you'd like and other editors may be able to help. Need tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors? Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!
