Shannon Pickett

[edit]

Greetings and welcome to Wikipedia,

I live in Evanston and am also shocked at the murder of Shannon Pickett just a block from ETHS, but it is not appropriate for the article on Evanston to feature the news of just one crime, even if it is a senseless murder.

You may not be familiar with the belief in writing with a neutral point of view, but can learn more about it here WP:NPOV It is important to understand that while you may be a writer or an editor, you may not be a reporter. All facts within an article should be sourced and referenced, especially in an ongoing situation such as this. It may be that you can write a page about the Murder of Shannon Pickett on the true crime section of Wikipedia as a current event, and then reference it back to the Evanston page and also place a reference to it on the Evanston page. As the news is very fast moving in this situation, it could be a worthy effort to gather the news information all in one place.

The place to discuss all of this is on the discussion page for the Evanston entry. That's where editors who work together on pages consult on what content is important and how to best reference and source it. Look for the discussion tab on the Evanston page.--I'm Nonpartisan 03:00, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings Destoria!

I just reverted your edits to this article, and wanted to let you know why.

Your statement, true as it might be for some people, violated two rather important Wikipedia policies.

1. Articles must be written from neutral point of view. That is, articles should not contain statements that are opinion, no matter how many people hold that opinion. You can read about that policy here: {[WP:NPOV| Wikipedia: Neutral Point of View]].

2. Information added to articles must be verifiable. This means you need to be able to support what you write with support from third-party, neutral, reputable sources. You can read more about that at Wikipedia: Verifiability

Meg Whitman and Atherton

[edit]

Thanks for your update of the article Atherton, California. As a reference for Meg Whitman being a resident of Atherton you list Meg's website. Unfortunately the page only states that she lives in the Bay Area. It does not specify where. Can you provide a source that states she is a resident of Atherton? --imars (talk) 06:13, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
