Secret Societies Edits[edit]

I edited the Collegiate Secret Societies page to include mine; I would like future members to see that this society existed. There are no online references, as this is a relatively new society. However, there are many other societies on this page without references. Could I please be allowed to retain the addition of this society?

Thank you very much for considering this request.

If there aren't any references, then there is no way to verify its existence. Until there are some references (by third parties) that show it's a significant club, then it doesn't belong on the page. ... discospinster talk 02:36, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Creation of the page Smartron[edit]

Hi Discospinster, I was trying to create a new article on Smartron - The electronic brand which offers Smartphone, Laptops etc which has investors like Sachin Tendulkar (Indian cricketer). I noticed that there was already a page create under this name before which was deleted. I wanted to inform you that I will be adding a fresh content on the new article. Can you please share the previous deleted page article content if you have so that I can see if it violated any of the wiki terms. Also would need your feedback as well. Akash207 (talk)

Hi Discospinster, Thanks for your feedback on my talk page. I've created the article page smartron with fresh content. Please check and let me know the feedback, if any. Thanks Akash207 (talk)

Peter George[edit]

I don't disagree that the first paragraph was the wrong place to mention his death. Respectfully, I don't know that one's death should be listed under their "Accomplishments", however I'm at a loss for a better place to mention it, given the other content on the page. Perhaps the reference should be removed entirely?

I just put it after the bit that talked about his wife's death. I'll add a heading to separate it from the Accomplishments section. ... discospinster talk 19:48, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

"he's not retired from being English"[edit]

Crikey, how many times has this turned up at John Deacon's article now? Are there any other biographies where this crops up frequently? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 08:49, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

The Diego Maradona article calls him an "Argentine retired professional footballer", and Alessandro Del Piero is also an "Italian former professional footballer" but I don't know if that's been changed back and forth. So it probably is unique to this article! I'll put a note in, although that won't stop everyone. ... discospinster talk 13:25, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

Street Sharks[edit]

Greetings. I won't revert, but I can assure you the physical episodes themselves (without commercials) are 22mins, despite what IMDb says. The IP was right. YouTube links as a ref, perhaps? Mac Dreamstate (talk) 23:49, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Well if you want to check every one of the articles that the IP has edited, and supply a reference for each one, be my guest. In the meantime IMDB is all we have to go on. ... discospinster talk 23:51, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
I have no interest in the other articles, but I would consider myself rather an expert on Street Sharks, having been a fan of the show for twenty years. If a mere link to an episode(s) on YouTube readily contradicts IMDb's incorrect information, in plain numbers, what's the harm? Mac Dreamstate (talk) 23:55, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I removed your WP:PROD template at Paraduin, because the reason you provided seemed invalid. The third-party sources don't need to be significant, their coverage of the topic must be. Significant coverage means: more than trivial, but it doesn't need to be the main topic, see WP:GNG. I believe that references 7-10 together provide significant independent direct coverage. The article seems on par with the average micronation lemma. However, if you still have doubts about the notability of this topic, I suggest posting at WP:WikiProject Micronations. Help to confirm if source is independent on my Article[edit]

Hello discospinster talk

Thank you for your review as it really helps to expand research on content and get acquainted with the Wikipedia platform as a newbie. Could you please verify if this link serves as an independent source to my article: Vanguard News and if it doesn't kindly give a pointer to this. I appreciate your time spent on this. Olusegun Ajakaiye (talk) 11:56, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi Olusegun, the source you provided is certainly independent, as it was not written by the subject or affiliated with the subject. If you can find more sources like this, which discuss Mr Onuegbu significantly (where he is the main subject of the article), that would go towards establishing notability. ... discospinster talk 13:21, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Monalika bhonsle[edit]

On what basis did you decide that Monalika bhonsle was a "test page". The article, when translated from Georgian, was about an Indian actress and model. Questionable notability, but probably sufficient to avoid speedy deletion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:26, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Value Added Tax in Bangladesh edit[edit]

Hi Discospinster, I saw that you have edited my page Value Added Tax in Bangladesh and removed some content. I am very new to wikipedia, would please suggest me what i need to do to bring back those content ? --Newton sarker (talk) 06:57, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

The content that I removed was promotional in tone, as if it was trying to "sell" the VAT, rather than simply reporting the facts. It is appropriate for the government's web page but not for an encyclopedia. Also, the content from the web page is copyrighted (the NBR web page says "All rights reserved (c)"), so it can't be used on Wikipedia unless it is offered under a Creative Commons licence. The article does not indicate why the book is notable. See WP:GNG and WP:NBOOK for guidelines on what this means. Deletion of Etea Sicurezza[edit]

Hello, I was working around this article since I've seen other Italian company stubs.

I was writing about the patented technology that this company has created because I believe is important to distinguish the kind of technology used in fire protection since this particular one use much less water and energy and create a Water Mist, which is different from the traditional systems.

The mechanism has been created for extinguishing fire in military submarines, in which a traditional system, how is described in the Fire Sprinkler page of Wikipedia, cannot be applied since it can ruin electronics and people can't escape from the vessels.

The Water Mist technology is useful in any kind of places where there is the need to extinguish fire but the water may damage the delicate component.

It also extinguish fire is much less time than traditional sprinklers, so I believe is important since it can save lives in case of emergency.

Since this technology uses less water and pressure (4 bars) is suitable in places with scares resources, and meet the energy and resource saving's philosophy and the current era. I believe is important because many countries don't have access to large amount of water (a resource that we take for granted but is a serious matter in some places).

The company is also owned by a larger multinational group with subsidiaries around the World, serving many countries.

I'm new in Wikipedia and I want to give my contribution, I was trying to write a nice article meanwhile learning how to add references and images.

I really would like to talk about this technology, so I ask to if you'll be so kind to guide me in the article creation and reconsider the article deletion.

Thank you very much

The article has to show how the company is notable by Wikipedia's criteria. This means it has been discussed significantly in independent sources, like newspapers or trade publications. Please see WP:Notability and WP:CORP for more guidance. ... discospinster talk 13:49, 17 August 2017 (UTC)

Moving articles to draft space rather than tagging with CSD[edit]

G'day, I'm a rather avid new page patroller who also has extended page mover rights. Is being able to observe the good intent / potential of articles enough for us to move it to the draft space ourselves or should this best be left to an admin? (This is in reference to KeeleSU - Keele University Students' Union) Cheers — IVORK Discuss 14:16, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello Discospinster,

I would like to resubmit the article on Emmanuel Etim for undeleletion. I'm new to wikipedia and wanted to make changes to the picture in the infobox. If i violated wikipedia's policy it was a mistake. I hope this explanation is sufficient for the article to be resubmitted and reviewed.

Ayoajik (talk) 18:55, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

The issue was not the picture in the infobox, it was that the article read like it was praising him. Miss Planet 2015[edit]

Just to let you know that the article Miss Planet 2015 which you deleted yesterday has been recreated again today - I've no idea what state the previous article was in, but the current one cites no sources, and from a quick reading appears to be a non-notable beauty contest. Richard3120 (talk) 23:18, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Update: on further investigation I'm not convinced the whole thing isn't just a hoax – there was a Miss Planet contest in 2015, but it was held in Tiblisi, Georgia [1]. Googling the contestants' names, even the "winner", draws complete blanks... funnily enough the only one who really does appear to exist is the Indian contestant, where this supposed contest took place. The one reference in the article is simply an untitled JPG picture of Asha Bhat being crowned Miss Supranational 2014 [2], but there's no evidence she went on to a Miss Planet pageant the following year, as stated in this article. If you look through the page history for these guitarists, you will see many times where people have tried to introduce ethnicity into the lead rather than just citizenship and this change has generally been rejected. Please open discussions on the relevant talk pages. Also, it is perhaps a pet peeve of mine but could you please not use the "minor" edit designation for edits that are not minor? Minor edits are ones that truly no one would want to inspect, and definitely not ones that are potentially contentious (like introducing statements of ethnicity into the lead). --Spike Wilbury (talk) 00:51, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

Your signature[edit]

Please be aware that your signature uses deprecated <font> tags, which are causing Obsolete HTML tags lint errors. You are encouraged to change

Unfortunately, that still won't work, because it exceeds the maximum length allowed for signatures. Characters can be saved by omitting the space after color: and by removing the optional semicolons, but that is still not enough in your case. A further workaround is required, and that is to substitute at least one color from name to numeric code, from this chart:

  • DarkGray = #A9A9A9
  • DarkOrange = #FF8C00
  • DarkOliveGreen = #556B2F

So, this will work: <span style="color:DarkGray">...</span> [[User:discospinster|<span style="color:DarkOrange">'''disco'''</span><span style="color: #556B2F">'''''spinster'''''</span>]] [[User talk:discospinster|'''<span style="color:DarkGray">talk</span>''']]... discospinster talk

I did not notice it until now, so I put newer longer versions on the internet. They have several references, and the text is longer. I hope, it is OK.

It's fine now. I moved it to your draft page at the same time you were updating it, so it got crossed. ... discospinster talk 18:31, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

How to see deleted content[edit]

You deleted Donald James LeRoy, but where can I find the deleted content so I can work on it again (an improved version without the copyright infringement)? I spent a LOT of time on it, and it wasn't just from those two sources. And the formatting for the biography profile box took a long time. I'd like to get the deleted content back just to work on it again. Dr. Universe (talk) 06:39, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

Only administrators can see deleted content. I can put the infobox on a page in Draft space for you to work on, but I can't put the copyrighted content back in for the same reason it was deleted in the first place. Here is the Draft article: Draft:Donald James Le Roy. ... discospinster talk 14:20, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

Why do some websites get a page but not others?[edit]

My page for Talent Recap was just deleted. It had been up for about four hours. It was marked for deletion and then deleted before I could add more internal links and external citations.

What's confusing me is why it was marked for deletion (and, of course, so speedily deleted) when other, similar sites are not. For example: Show-Score. It's just a site. It has a blog, it produces videos, it's on Twitter and Facebook. It's a start-up in New York City, but isn't owned by anyone and has no celebrities or big names attached to it. All these things are true of Talent Recap as well.

Show-Score has a Wikipedia page. Talent Recap's didn't last a day. I've been reading all the articles you link to but I can't determine a difference between the two. Can you help me out? I'd really like to add another page to my "creation resume," and I'll do whatever it takes for Talent Recap to clear that hurdle. Or, I'd like to see Show-Score pulled from the site. Fair's fair.

Thanks for any advice, information, or assistance you can provide. QuarterbackSneak (talk)

In the case of Show-Score, there are many citations showing that other well-known sources (e.g. Variety) have talked about the site. Just because something exists, that doesn't mean it's going to have a Wikipedia article. It has to be notable, which means "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." I wasn't able to find much of that when I searched Google for Talent Recap (which is not surprising since it is relatively new). I suggest working on the article in draft space first, so it will not be subject to deletion. See WP:DRAFT for the process. ... discospinster talk 17:25, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

Your edit on Duck Duck Goose (song)[edit]

Duck Duck Goose was never released in 2017. It doesn't belong in 2017 singles. It belongs in 2018 singles

At the time I made the edit, the article body indicated that it was released in 2017. The article was changed afterwards. ... discospinster talk 21:12, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Well now[edit]

Discospinster, with your 269,298 edits, you're still around. I think I may have to work a little harder if I'm ever going to pass you, since you (and that Mandarax person) are clearly not giving up. DONT YALL HAVE DAY JOBS?? Drmies (talk) 17:59, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

Well, considering that I'm not nearly as active here these days, it's highly likely that you'll both pass me before long. My number, though larger than yours, is much less impressive, due to my use of AWB (although I haven't edited with AWB since 2015). MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 21:44, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
I closed a bunch of AfDs today, and that automatic closer gives me credit for removing wikilinks to deleted articles--so that worked out just fine for me! I hope we keep you around for ever, Mandarax. Drmies (talk) 02:29, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
Thank you, Drmies, for your kind words. (I almost simply used the "Thank" function, but in the spirit of this discussion, I decided to increment my edit count by leaving a note instead. Sorry, Discospinster, for the mini-hijacking of your talk page.) MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 06:14, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
Most of my edits were made when I did not have a day job (being a student). Now I have a day job but I still like to come back now and again. ... discospinster talk 00:35, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

"Henry (vacuum)" page[edit]

Hello :)

You recently took off a list of vacuums from my Henry page I made yesterday and I worked very hard on that. The point was to inform users about the basic Henry's. Also the list was of the currently being made Henry's, so people know which ones are currently available brand new. Please consider allowing me to put it back because it took me around 1-2 hours with the references and everything.

Thanks :)

Hi. Generally we don't include such details in Wikipedia articles, especially where the information is readily available in a more appropriate place, such as the manufacturer's web page. ... discospinster talk 17:01, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Dear Friend,

Thank you for your kind concern.

I am not that much familiar with writing articles on Wikipedia. However, I am a freelance journalist and want to create a page related to myself on Wikipedia. Kindly help me out here. Thanks again.

Speedy Deletion of several files[edit]

Zak Kuhr Adrian Mayes (American football coach) Kyle Hoke Jules Montinar

I work for the university where the "copyrighted" material came from. I would gladly reword but I do not want to have to re-create the boxes with coaching history... Can you re-instate the old versions so I can fix ASAP.Americanfootballupdater (talk) 22:05, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Undercover Rock wiki entry[edit]

Hi - thanks for your mssg regarding the Wiki entry "Undercover Rock" which I created.

As you can tell I'm an inexperienced contrib to Wikipedia, so glad to be steered in the right direction.

You probably also realised the entry was a first effort. Rather than debate the notability of the subject here, my plan would be to do some more work on the entry and re-publish.

I've attempted to remove the entry - but fear I may not have done this correctly.

Best wishes

PhilKerswell (talk) 09:22, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi Phil. The article has ended up in Draft space, so you can work on it there and it will be safe from deletion. ... discospinster talk 13:31, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

Bunch Paraka - speedy deletion[edit]

I am currently unsure as to why you have requested speedy deletion of the page 'Bunch Paraka'. If you know of anything on the page that is incorrect or offensive, please notify me and I shall edit (although if this is your problem with the page, you can edit it yourself [as you probably know]).

I tagged it as a hoax because there is no such thing as 'Bunch Paraka'. ... discospinster talk 19:58, 16 March 2018 (UTC)

The meal Bunch Paraka had no internet presence so I decided to make a Wikipedia page for it.

Wells & Wong Detective Society[edit]

Please stop redirecting that page to Murder Most Unladylike. It is a separate article and I want it to stay that way. "Wells & Wong Detective Society" relates to Murder Most Unladylike, but is important enough to be an article in its own right. Thank you very much.ShyPinkLolly (talk) 16:43, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi, you haven't provided enough sources to show that it's notable in its own right. Please see WP:NOTABILITY for criteria, in particular "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list." ... discospinster talk 17:20, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
