Multiple concerns; please take care of ASAP

I would like for you to take care of the following issues.

  1. At Michelle Phan, there was another revision which needs to be deleted
  2. That other revision was placed there by an IP editor. If you look at the page history, sockpuppetry is pretty evident. Please use your administrative discretion to take cere of the issue
  3. At the help desk, there was personal information posted. Please review the page history. I've reverted it for now, and I ask it to be hidden from the public archives until it is oversighted, which I have requested in an e-mail. Thank you. (talk) 02:23, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
Could you add the diffs (links to the changes that were made)? I looked at all of the revisions of the article that took place over the past couple of days and hid some other edits, but is there one I've missed? ... discospinster talk 02:26, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
You got both of them, and another admin took care of the issue at the help desk. Now all that has to be done is to take care of the sockpuppetry issue, and, also, I would like to make an edit request:
At {{blank2}}, it should state to provide an edit summary, as {{uw-delete}} does. Thank you. (talk) 02:30, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
Do you think it's necessary? When someone removes specific content there may be a justifiable reason (which would be helpful in an edit summary), but if they're blanking the whole page it's most likely vandalism. I can add it to the template if you want but I think it might be removed. ... discospinster talk 02:36, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
Occasionally, pages are blanked for justifiable reasons (with good faith intentions), as it is stated on {{blank}}, however, {{blank2}} includes sections of pages. Sections are often removed due to slander, libel, or because they are dubious and unsourced, such as the one I blanked on Michelle Phan. All right, I received the message, and it wasn't initially in the spam folder. Anyways, I see that edit as a bunch of depthless silliness that fails at being offensive. I think that it being sheltered from public view is acceptable because of the content within the message, and its censoring does not overstep any boundaries or anything like that. Thanks for sending that to my e-mail address. Cheers. Backtable Speak to meconcerning my deeds. 22:37, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

why aren't you replying?-- (talk) 20:23, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

I was in the process of replying when you left the above message.
Whether the web site is maintained by staff or students does not make a difference since the copyright is held by the school (going by the Jabalpur Engineering College © 2012 at the bottom of each page). The content is not in the public domain. Most of the content that I removed wouldn't have been appropriate for Wikipedia even if it were in the public domain, since it's written in a flowery and non-neutral style and was not accompanied by independent references (i.e. those not related to the school). The current version of the article keeps the factual information without being a duplicate of the school's web site. ... discospinster talk 20:28, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

yeah! but I was about to add third party references.

I'm not stopping you from adding the pertinent information with third-party references. You just can't copy the words from the web page. ... discospinster talk 20:33, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at Dance Again... the Hits shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. —Hahc21 23:05, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

July 2012 Study of authors of health-related Wikipedia pages

Dear Author/Discospinster

My name is Nuša Farič and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at the University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Wikipedia pages and why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Wikipedia pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Wikipedia and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address recently edited an article on Helicobacter Pylori. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article and or other health-related articles. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page ( and if interested, please reply via my talk page or e-mail me on Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance. Hydra Rain (talk) 13:25, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Nuša, thank you for considering me for your study. Most of what I do in Wikipedia is vandalism clean-up, so I can't really say that I'm the "author" of any of the pages. (For example, my edit to Helicobacter pylori only removed some graffiti.) Thus, I'm not sure how helpful I could be, but I'm willing to answer any questions you might have. ... discospinster talk 18:37, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for helping out with damage control from the latest IP address of the WikAdvisor sockmaster. He will insert information from his personal website, the address of which I can't type on Wikipedia, since it has been banned. Whichever editor reverts the vandalism can expect to have their userpage vandalized, as well as receiving no communication whatsoever from the user. Hi Discospinster, I wish to thank you very much for reverting the vandalism on my talk page, as well as temporarily blocking from further vandalising Wikipedia. Can you please indefinitely block this IP from editing? Unfortunately, this is the second time this user has been blocked in a period of less than a week since that user began editing here. The user Bongwarrior has also blocked this IP a few days ago for vandalism and editor attacks (whole list found here: Based on the severity of the vandalism, and how quickly they were done in a short time period - even immediately after the first block was lifted, I believe that this user should be blocked indefinitely to prevent further vandalism, prevent any more attacks and threats to other editors, and to prevent any further disruption and disturbances on Wikipedia. Thank you for helping me out earlier, and I greatly appreciate for your help on this one and look forward to hearing from you soon on this matter. Nguyen1310 (talk) 04:34, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

You're welcome. I don't usually put an indefinite block on IPs, since some of them will be used by other (non-vandal) editors. (See also WP:IPBLENGTH for the Wikipedia policy.) Oh, I remembered Bongwarrior has temporarily blocked this IP earlier and expired, before you did. Oh yes, there's another troublesome IP atop of the one above, its ( This IP has engaged in racially discriminatory editor attacks against me, labelling me as being Chinese when I'm not (I'm Viet) in the Mi Quang article talk page, vandalized the China Beach article by calling American troops "idiots" (and wrote "take that bitches" in the edit summary), committed pro-communist Vietnamese censorship on the North Vietnam, 1975 Spring Offensive and Ho Chi Minh articles by deleting truthful and substantiated content in the articles that were critical of the communists. I strongly believe the 2 IPs I've given are connected to the same group or person (who switches between 2 IPs), because both IPs attacked me in talk pages & in edit summaries, both made pro-communist Vietnamese edits and deletions on Vietnamese Cold War historical/political articles, both vandalized articles, both used profane language in edits and edit summaries, both are supposedly from the Los Angeles area and use AT&T as their service provider, both are Vietnamese, both have similar speech patterns (like "stop making stupid edits", often using the word "crap", and both had grammatical errors when editing, indicating English isn't their first language) and both began editing and causing trouble in Wikipedia this month. I'm keeping a close eye on these IPs, but I think more trouble will come and the two IPs are used as sockpuppets. I'll report any new developments on these users. Thanks again for your effort on this Nguyen1310 (talk) 22:10, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I missed those before. I've replaced them. ... discospinster talk 17:51, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Sanctions against Iraq

Can I ask why you reverted my edit at Sanctions against Iraq? I was just correcting the article to say what the source says. If we aren't specific and just say 500,000, then people could get the mistaken impression that they mean 500,000 people total, rather than 500,000 people under age 5. That's a huge difference, and we should stick with what the sources say about it. I'm guessing you just didn't read it carefully, or actually check the source to verify what I said, and figured it was vandalism or something. Could you please take a look at the article, and the sources, and then undo your revert, once you see that it's in the source cited? Thank you. (talk) 04:38, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

I see that you were undoing a lot of vandalism at the time, so I'm guessing you were just in revert mode from dealing with all of the people immediately before. Since you gave no explanation for why you reverted, and were moving quickly through so many reverts, I'm just going to assume it's an honest mistake, and so I went ahead and reverted you. (talk) 04:42, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes, it was an error, I apologize. ... discospinster talk 12:27, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Culture wars, AD vs. CE

Re: your revert Chinese New Year. My notes:

"2012 CE" 15:01 21 Jul 2012 Discospinster (rv)
"2012 AD" 14:52 21 Jul 2012
"2012 CE" 14:04 17 Mar 2012
"AD 2012" 16:20 22 Jan 2012 Bchaosf
"2012 AD" 13:33 02 Jan 2012 (forgot) original edit from 2011

This is just another culture war, whether 'AD' or 'CE' is correct. Me, I'd say WP:ENGVAR applies, except someone would strenuously say it doesn't. (sigh) Was there ever a grand statement of which world-view should predominate at WP? Shenme (talk) 03:55, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

All I can find in terms of "official" Wikipedia statement is WP:BCE, which says that either may be appropriate. But it also goes on to recommend against changing the style that's already there without a discussion first. There's nothing in Talk:Chinese New Year that addresses it. ... discospinster talk 19:14, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Economic Materialism

Can you explain why you reverted my edit of Economic Materialism? The page is a mess, a heap of leftist clichés. No serious philosopher or ethicist admits of the existence of "materialism" in the sense that it is used on the page--at least not as distinct from historical concepts of "greed" or "avarice." Read over the talk section: you will find that the page has been roundly condemned. Unless you can make the case that "Economic materialism" is not a synonym for Greed, I am going to have to insist upon redirecting it once more.Stealstrash (talk) 04:44, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Even if you and some others think the Economic materialism article is not good, the correct response is not to remove it without consensus, which is essentially what you did (silence is not the same as consensus here). If you feel that the article is beyond repair and unnecessary, you can nominate it for deletion at WP:AfD, where a proper discussion will take place. ... discospinster talk 13:24, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for reminding of the interwiki links. I'm going by the assumption that it's kind of notable, but if someone puts a prod or AfD on it I won't flip out. ... discospinster talk 18:52, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Call for University of Guelph's Campus Ambassador

My name is Andrew. I'm the Regional Ambassador for the Canada Education Program. The goal of this program is to engage students and professors in using Wikipedia as a teaching tool. A professor from University of Guelph, which you indicated your affiliation with the university through your userbox, is participating in the program for Fall 2012 semester. We're seeking campus ambassadors, which we currently don't have for University of Guelph, who are available on-campus to help students. If you're interested (or have any other questions), please leave a message on my talk page. OhanaUnitedTalk page 05:33, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

I'm actually not at U of Guelph anymore (graduated) and I don't live in the city, so I wouldn't be able to join the program. Thank you for your consideration, though. ... discospinster talk 18:59, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

New Teacher At Copleston Highschool

We actually have a new headteacher at Copleston High School, his name is Simon Daniels and he has declared the religion as pastafarian, just thought you should know :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 17:21, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

The website still says it's Mr Common, and there would need to be a reference for the Pastafarian declaration. ... discospinster talk 17:24, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
There are not many avowed worshipers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster around. Context for the Pastafarian claim would be good. Otherwise, this could be governed by WP:Fart, for example. Happy editing. 7&6=thirteen () 17:40, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
