Paul Roche[edit]

Please don't overwrite one article with another. To create a different article about a person with the same name it becomes necessary to change the title in some way. You could use Donald Robert Paul Roche or if he was more commonly known as Paul Roche then you could use Paul Roche (poet). Thanks. Also most of the Paul Roche (poet) article was copied from http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/1568663/Paul-Roche.html and as such violates copyright. Hello Donscalos. I saw your note on copyright at the bottom of the Paul Roche (poet) page, however Wikipedia has very strict policies about copyright violation. I began writing you a note, but much of what I was going to say is in the paragraphs above. I suspect that your introduction to Wikipedia has turned into a frustrating experience and it would be a great shame if you became disheartened. Wikipedia has a guideline for editors: 'Be bold', which you certainly were and creating or expanding articles is one of the best ways that one can contribute. I do believe that your editing experience will be much less disappointing or frustrating if you familiarise yourself with some of the guidelines and policies that make Wikipedia 'run smoothly' (some irony intended ;)). I know from personal experience that these can be daunting, at first.

Dealing with the articles[edit]

First the copyright. First don't add back the Telegraph material until permission is obtained, or this is what will happen and the page may be deleted. Better to have a short article than none at all. Now, you have permission from the original author and that's great but the Telegraph page has a copyright notice at the bottom so there needs to be permission from the writer. Look at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission and Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. There are instructions on those pages as to how to provide permissions. It might be a good idea to have the original author to read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials and they will also need to show that they did indeed write the Telegraph article. If you need assistance then pleas let me know.

As to which article should be at the title Paul Roche, that should be fairly simple. Until yesterday I had not heard of either man but I suspect that you are correct and the poet is better known than the hurler, but I can't be sure. The one thing not to do is paste the material over the top as that causes attribution problems. If you look at Wikipedia:Requested moves, especially the Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves section there are instructions on what to do. Basically you should go to Talk:Paul Roche and at the bottom of the page add the following (you can copy and paste it from here); {{subst:RMtalk|Paul Roche (hurler)|Reason for move. ~~~~}}. Replace the words "Reason for move." with an explanation as to why the article needs changing. State that you want Paul Roche (poet) to move there and why it is better that he as opposed to the hurler should occupy the main title. Again if you need any help let me know.
