November 2019 NYC editathons
[edit]- Hi there, Ejgertz! I found your user name on Women Do News: Campaign Now To Raise Visibility of Women Journalists Globally. Angshah tells me you are the Wikipedia lead for the editathons on November 2 and 16. I just want you to know that I would be happy to help out if you run into any difficulties or if your participants need assistance with the articles they edit or create. As you probably know, WikiProject Women in Red has redlists on writers and journalists which may be useful for you, in particular Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Journalists and Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Missing articles by occupation/Writers - US. It is important to explain to participants that they need to support their new biographies by describing why the journalist is considered to be notable and citing solid secondary sources from newspapers, journals, books and awards presentations (not just articles or books written by the journalist in question). In this connection, you may find it useful to look through our Ten Simple Rules. It might be a good idea to set up a simple meetup page along the lines of Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/MetAsianMonth 2019. I may not be available during the hours you have set for the editathons but I should be able to follow up on any queries within a day or two. Mertz Library of the New York Botanical Garden and the Environment of New York City Task Force invite you and the general public of all experience levels to come to the Mertz Library in person and learn how to use Wikipedia! All skill levels welcome at the event! Experienced Wikipedia editors from the Wikimedia New York City chapter will be in attendance and available to help. A documentary filmmaker will be in attendance, working on Rabbit Hole, which aims to document Wikipedia's community to showcase how our network tackles important questions about how history is recorded. This is a sequel to the March 2024 Wiki Gala at Prime Produce, the March 2023 Grand Central Salon and the March 2022 Wiki-Tent Brunch. You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our Annual Election & Members Meeting, in-person at Prime Produce in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan and also via Zoom. The Members' Meeting is similar to other WikiWednesday meetups, except that its primary function is to elect new members to the Board of Directors. We will elect three board seats – half of the elected seats on the board – and the elected board can appoint up to five more board members. As part of the Members Meeting, we will also focus on the Wikimedia NYC Programs Plan for the coming year, our Financial Report, and Annual and Monthly event teams for the coming year. Election info:
