Hi! This is my talk page, feel free to drop me a message. To experienced editors: feel free to stalk my talk page and reply to any threads here.To admins: I prefer that my talk page remain unprotected, even if it's being vandalized. Such edits do not particularly bother me and I prefer to remain accessible to anyone who would like to reach me. However, if the volume of vandalism is so high that no other solution would stop disruption, I don't mind if my talk page is semi-protected for a day or two. Hopefully, this is a rare occurrence.

Preexisting text on top of page I want to edit[edit]

Hi Elli, I would like to update an existing page on Wikipedia that has the following text on the top of the box:

{{Short description|Cuban Scout leader}}

{{Multiple issues|

{{Notability|1=Biographies|date=February 2024}}

{{Unreferenced|date=February 2024}}

{{

{{Use dmy dates|date=February 2021}}

It looks like these comments have been added by a reviewer (or some bot) at some time in the past, and I will be adding references and making many changes. Can I remove the above code before starting to edit the document? They clutter up the page and if these comments are coming from a reviewer, I would like to see the comments that apply to my real-time edits. Not get confused with comments that relate to some historical text that no longer applies.... Thanks! Flightbook (talk) 18:59, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Flightbook: those tags were added by a previous editor. You can remove them as long as you address the issues (if you remove them and don't address the issues, there's a good chance you'll be reverted).
The "Short description" and "Use dmy dates" should not be removed, of course. Elli (talk | contribs) 19:07, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Elli,
I recently made some edits to the page Serafin Garcia Menocal and the box at top of page says the article "does not cite any sources (February 2024). I have 16 citations. Can you shed light on why the statement is there? Thank you. Flightbook (talk) 02:28, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Flightbook: the tags aren't automatically added or updated. They're placed by editors and removed manually by editors when no longer accurate. Elli (talk | contribs) 05:16, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, Thank you, Elli! Flightbook (talk) 14:14, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Thenga official (14:08, 21 February 2024)[edit]

Hi,myself marvel bobit. i would like to add an article about me on wikipedia how may i do it ? --Thenga official (talk) 14:08, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Thenga official: hi! It's strongly discouraged to write an article about yourself as you have an inherent conflict of interest. Elli (talk | contribs) 15:41, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft review request[edit]

Hello. I made a page that was moved to draftspace due to not satisfying WP:NPROF. However I found secondary sources and not rely on publications to prove notability as in WP:NPROF and the person that moved it to draftspace admitted it satisfied WP:BIO afterwards, however he wasn't fit to review it and directed me to AfC submitting. If it is alright with you I would like to ask you to review it Draft:Yasin Şöhret. I would highly appreciate it. Thank you Serrwinner (talk) 19:42, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Serrwinner: thanks for reaching out. While it is a good idea to go through AfC for your first article, it is not necessary, and there is often a long wait for that process. If you believe the article would survive a deletion discussion in its current state, you can move it back to being an article. The second time that editor draftified your article was improper; draftification is supposed to happen at most once. Elli (talk | contribs) 15:47, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Eyes And The Crouton Chip (01:15, 22 February 2024)[edit]

Am i ever allowed to write an article about one website? --Eyes And The Crouton Chip (talk) 01:15, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Eyes And The Crouton Chip: yes. However, the website needs to meet our notability guidelines, which require significant coverage in reliable, independent sources. Elli (talk | contribs) 15:42, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Ibnboriken on Republics in the Commonwealth of Nations (07:21, 26 February 2024)[edit]

Hey elli. Hope all is well. I wanted to add the word war after korean. And also i wanted to provide 2 government archives as a more then credible source for the contribution pertaining to this article. --Ibnboriken (talk) 07:21, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ibnboriken: hi -- can you clarify what in particular you need help with doing? Elli (talk | contribs) 19:33, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Locust Valley (08:24, 26 February 2024)[edit]

hi, elli/mentor! while looking through my suggested page edits, i found this one that's almost certainly written by the subject herself (the article's creator uploaded the image and identified it as "own work") but i'm not sure if this violates any rules and, if so, what to do about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Grigsby --Locust Valley (talk) 08:24, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Locust Valley: thanks for reaching out and finding that page! While it's not technically a violation for someone to write an article about themselves, it's very strongly discouraged per WP:AUTOBIO. This page in particular looks pretty promotional and might not meet our notability guidelines. The correct thing to do here is to nominate it for deletion (which I am going to do now). Question from Ignat.Lolov (17:11, 27 February 2024)[edit]

Hello! I have registered here very recently and started editing just a few days ago. I tried to add a trustworthy source to this article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Democrats_(Denmark). Apparently, the visual editor failed to convert the source properly because the template has some red lines (it is reference 16). I would really love to avoid getting these annoying red notifications, so is there any tip on how to deal with it? Best regards! --Ignat.Lolov (talk) 17:11, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ignat.Lolov: thanks for reaching out! If you edit the page and click on the reference in visual editor, you should be able to modify its details. Particularly, the "first" field currently contains 18 nov 2021 kl 10:07 Artiklen er mere end 30 dage gammel Del artiklen Del artiklen Facebook Twitter E.-mail Kopier link /ritzau/ -- you want to change that to the actual first name of the author (make sure the "Last name" field is also fixed). Elli (talk | contribs) 17:16, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Elli, many thanks for the clear instruction! I will go to the article about the Christian Democrats and try this option out! Ignat.Lolov (talk) 17:12, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 March newsletter[edit]

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from Game0saur (15:49, 28 February 2024)[edit]

Hello, I want to try editing because I noticed a page on the extinct animal Agialosaurus was rather short, I gathered all the knowledge i could but when I went to start editing I was rather intimidated, may you please explain how I can start editing before I make a mistake? --Game0saur (talk) 15:49, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Game0saur: hi; sorry for the delay in getting back to you. In general I'd suggest being bold and making the edits; if you make any mistakes I or another Wikipedia editor would be happy to help you fix them. I'm not sure what in particular you're worried about messing up; if you let me know, I can point you to more specific guidelines regarding that. Question from ElijahOLOWO (19:27, 6 March 2024)[edit]

Hi, i have been trrying to publish an article for the past 5 days but it keeps getting declined --ElijahOLOWO (talk) 19:27, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ElijahOLOWO: thanks for reaching out. You need reliable, independent sources with significant coverage of the subject to demonstrate notability, and none are present in your article. Elli (talk | contribs) 19:32, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help with image maps[edit]

Hi, I know you hav created a lot of election image maps and I was curious of you could please create ones for the 2020, 2023, and 2024 secretary of state elections along with the 2022 and 2024 state treasurer elections. That would be a major help. Thanks. Coolxsearcher1414 (talk) 00:04, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Coolxsearcher1414: thanks for reaching out. Will try to do so in a bit though I am somewhat busy. Elli (talk | contribs) 20:18, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
